If somehow we did get Griezmann could we use him as a 10 in a 4231? Like:

-----------Ibrahimović-----------
Martial --- Griezmann --- Mkhitaryan
--------Pogba --- Carrick--------
---Shaw --- ? --- Bailly --- ?----
-------------De Gea--------------

It's not his ideal position but could we not just treat him as a second striker of sorts? On paper it looks like a heck of a team.

Otherwise if we had to play him as a false #9 I don't see how he and Ibra could be played together. Maybe could put him on the right and Mkhitaryan in the middle as the #10 but still not ideal.
Pogba in a midfield 2. :(

Not a big fan of martial i dont think he'll last, would much prefer mata.

Well yeah I figure that's the only way you could get all these great players together. Maybe you have to try too hard to Ibra and Griezmann in the same lineup though, perhaps its better to just play one at a time and have the third man in central midfield.

Not that I think we're going to get Griezmann anyway mind you.

Off topic but his new Puma ad is quite funny.

Drop Ibra for Mata.

Also I'd fear for us if we still relying on Carrick next season to be a starter. We need to sign a replacement for him.

That's why everyone loves him, he doesn't take himself seriously. Completely off topic but I recently realized that Ronaldo was the same.

Imagine the celebration possibilities with him and Pogba in the team :smirk:

 What an advert that is.

Hopefully we sign him to keep Pogba happy here, if nothing else. I don't know if he would struggle in the Premier League though, we'd have to be careful.

I just think sometimes you can enjoy a player without saying 'let's sign him'. Griezmann fits into that category for me. I see no requirement for him, especially at what he'd cost, and there is no obvious thing to do with him in the team.

I'd be surprised if we went false 9 permanently, but that's how he'd best fit with our group I think.

Reckon Carrasco is a better fit for United than Griezmann - more mobile, naturally better out wide, and starting to really establish himself in the Atlético starting XI. The latter's obviously an excellent player - that's been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. But his best performances invariably come in this setup (off the shoulder of the 9 where Griezmann presses high, roams, and gets into great positions to score):

Using him wide, or Pogba in a double pivot would be a waste of their individual talents. The duo could maybe work in Ancelotti's Christmas Tree, but that's a bit unrealistic under Mourinho given the emphasis on traditional width in the league:

If he becomes available, then we have to sign him obviously. He would bring so much to the table, but most importantly, goals.

Zlatan, Antoine, Mata, Henrikh. what a top 4.

Add Martial, Rashford and Jesse to the mix, and we have an amazing strike force.

Rooney (by then probably all time goalscorer of the club) of course would need to take one for the team and go for a long holiday in China.

And we would have to make it top 4 i guess. come on guys, make it happen!

Jesus! That phone dance celebration is going to drive people crazy. Pogba , Jesse, Rashford with the dab, add the Griezman weirdness and whatever Memphis does. The older caftards are going to lose it every time we score.

Get him so we can play a front 4 of:
Martial, Mata, Mkhitaryan and Griezmann. all 4 rotating in all 4 positions, Martial obviously if he develops well can be world class, griezmann is world class, miki was last year and mata is always brilliant. Just a wank worthy front 4 that.

If the goals come, they'll quickly get over it.

Any reason we can't do a 4-4-2 if we were to get Griezmann? You can really draw up some potentially deadly lineups.

Up front, you can pick two of Griezmann, Ibrahimovic, Rashford, Martial.
For the midfield/wings, you can pick four of Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Herrera, Martial, Rashford, Lingard, Carrick (if he stays).

Get these guys on good chemistry with each other and we'd be spoiled for choice for rotation.

What a giant tease, just come out with the giant "come get me plea" already, Griez. We know it, you know it, the world knows it.

I'm a muppet but this one has that feeling of inevitability

Definitely think he'll come next summer. Too many little hints here and there, and he fits in perfectly for Mourinho I think. Not entirely sure if he suits us and our players, and main priority #1 is a holding mid to replace Carrick, and #2 and 3 being a center back and right back probably. But after those 3, then Griezmann to be that star in our attack with Mata, Miki supporting him (Martial too if he develops).

£89M for a player that doesn't really fit with our current £89M player seems a waste to me, don't get me wrong, Griezmann is class but I just don't see him and Pogba ever being able to play their best in the same team.

Yeah me neither really. Though in a system where we have a front 3 that kinda drifts around and interchanges, Griezmann could work while still having Pogba in a midfield 3 that he needs.

You mean Griezmann playing as the #9? I just don't see that working in truth, and he's really been at his best when playing off a proper #9 that can hold it up for his second man runs.

Not the main 9, but like a diamond maybe. Martial and Griezmann up top, martial leading and griezmann dropping off him and Mata or Miki in the hole (and the other in the 3 man mid next to Pogba). Obviously wouldnt be a rigid attack at all, and griezmann, martial and the 10 would take turns rotating between drifting wide and staying central, sometimes the wing backs providing width, sometimes Pogba drifting left, etc. Its definitely possible but thats the only way to get them all out there at their best. Plus in Mourinho's style, his wingers do drift inwards all the time and dont play as wingers at all, more just extra players in the half spaces where he could excel.

Obviously, for another 100 mil we would want an obvious need (holding mid) or that leading striker to replace Ibra, someone like Aubameyang. But if Mourinho has a way to fit him in, and he is eager to join, then why not? Considering we do have the money. As long as we cover the main needs, Griezmann here would only make us better.
