Antoine Griezmann

Would make sense if we are looking to move Rooney, Schweinsteiger and Young along in the summer. I'm not at all interested if it's at the expense of Martial, despite my love of Griezmann.

The idea that he doesn't fit our system is nonsense, we played without Carrick this weekend and absolutely dominated away at Stoke, having Carrick in there would have changed very little in that regard. You can argue about Pogba's productivity, but he's hardly been setting the world alight with Carrick in the side anyway.

Griezmann is so versatile that he can play in any attacking position. He has bags of energy and enthusiasm, he won't shirk the defensive side of the game, and he's spent the majority of his career as a winger anyhow. I think this gives us long term stability in replacing Ibrahimovic and playing a more fluid front three/four (dependent upon opposition).

For now:
Mkhitaryan - Ibraimovic - Griezmann
(Martial) - (Rashford) - (Mata)

or

Ibrahimovic
(Rashford)

Martial - Griezmann - Mkhitaryan
(Rashford) - (Mata) - (Lingard)-
Post Zlat:
Mkhitaryan - Martial - Griezmann
(Lingard) - (Rashford) - (Mata)
The interchangeability with those three, plus Rashford would seem ideal for me, and allows us to persue the next up and coming talent or develop from within.

People are just weird about money. They see that we are spending close to 80m and would seriously prefer to turn him down because of that. Oh or the fact that Rashford MIGHT become a great player, and they don't want to risk it. Crazy.

Of course, no one can predict the development of players like Rashford and Martial to any degree of certainty. I honestly think that Rashford is still very raw, and very young to be leading the line for us. Martial has everything though, except the support of the manager right now. Mourinho just doesn't trust young players as much as I'd like to see.

I swear, just google translate it:

Estuvo el francés al principio y al final para el Atleti. Era el minuto tres cuando en San Mamés sonaba la red de la portería de Iraizoz por primera vez y Griezmann se daba la vuelta para señalar a Koke. “Es tuyo: yo no lo he tocado”, decía señalándole con el dedo, antes de abrazarle.

Edit: Apologize to Metro, it's not in the article but in their video section.

I agree that it's not an exact like for like with the 3 players mentioned here, all would be slightly different playing off the RW, but I think there's enough common ground with players of this quality to make it a viable starting point of fitting Griezmann into the team without resorting to a 4-2-3-1 and neutering Pogba.

He is neither a right winger nor a right inside forward, but I agree that he can play in a front three with a CF (Zlatan) and a player who plays slightly further out wide (Micki or Martial). He does exactly that, when Carrasco starts on the left for Atletico. I am not sure that Martial would be a great fit, but Micki would be almost perfect, because he is so flexible and more of a midfielder/creative player.

you could also defend as 451 with Griezmann dropping deeper and Carrick playing more central.

It would be imo better to do it the other way around (=> our left back would play more like a winger, and Micki would start on the left, but we'd need Shaw for that), but my point is, that he can certainly fit into the team. I am just opposed to the notion, that he is a winger/wide forward, because he really isn't.

I really think we need to stick to him where he thrives as a second/shadow striker or whatever the hipsters are calling it nowadays. I would not restrict getting the best players because of a system. Adaptation is needed and systems need to change according to the opposition at times. We need Plan A, B & C

If Martial had everything then he would have the trust of the manager. He's a long, long way off yet.

I wonder how many followers his brother has gained since the United rumours started

@Acquire Me

How advanced do you think any talks are. Is he basically aware that he is coming and just formalities of bid etc?

We have been deep in negotiations for a long time now and while some media has picked up on it now, it's not a done deal and its nothing new at this point. But it will be done and probably not a transfer that will drag all summer.

Let's hope your 100% record remains intact. I want Griezmann at United more than I wanted Pogba, and I wanted Pogba a lot.

Well I've just watched his scoutnation video so I guess I'm on board.

The problem is that we can say we lack goals and he brings goals and that's all well and good but that doesn't take into account that when players come to this club they, more often than not, turn to absolute shit. We used to say Mata was the best finisher at the club and look at what he served up on Saturday. Yeah it was only one game but look at Zlatan. He was a brilliant finisher in Paris and has been very disappointing with some of the chances he has completely fluffed this season. So don't be surprised to see Griezmann come and not be as deadly as he is with Atletico.

Why? Because our club is probably cursed.

Ibra did miss plenty in Ligue 1, PSG just created so many every game, like now with Cavani.

I'm not saying he had a 100% conversion rate, just that he was a better finisher there with regards to clear-cut chances compared to his time here. I mean some of Zlatan's misses give me nightmares. That 1st minute one-on-one against Stoke at home, the billion chances he had against Tom Heaton, the header at Anfield, his weird insistence on playing Mata in on 2 occasions at Stoke when he could have taken the shot himself and probably scored. I love him and he's carried us this season though.

We may be cursed but there is nothing we can do about that! We can however do our best to buy the best possible players to address our deficiencies.

Goalscoring has been a huge problem since #20. This lad has an innate ability of knowing where the goal is and these players are so difficult to find. It makes so much sense to buy someone who probably is the best available player out there who is very good at doing the hardest thing in football.

Would Pogba be moving back into a 2 if Utd sign AG? Poor move IMO. Griezzman could play off the sides with Pogba in a 3 but is that what they're signing him for?
