Griezmann's goal output seems to have dropped this season compared to the last two. I don't really watch Athletico Madrid's games, so can anyone tell me what has changed? Is it just a temporary slump in form or is he still playing very well but been unlucky with goals?

Atleti in general have been pretty poor this season, one of the biggest factors probably being a result of Griezmann's bad form.

He's been good overall but he did go through a bit of a goal drought that he seems to be getting out of as of late though.

He's suffering from something called 'His head's in Manchester' syndrome.

What's the plan on how to play him?

I like him as a player, but he definitely seems to be one where the team has to play to his strengths - similar to Pogba. With them both we saw France struggle to try and accomplish this. How everyone think Mourinho will approach it? The only way I can think is it requires a formation with 3 in midfield and 3 in attack.

I think it would lead to Rooney and Mata leaving. Griezmann would be the 10 when we play 4-2-3-1 and RW when. We play 4-3-3, with one of him, Martial or Mkhitaryan getting rested and being the first option off the bench. People think Griezmann wont play RW but he'd adjust. He's a clever passer, makes great runs in behind and can link up and cut in when coming infield. Valencia would have space to attack. Maybe we'd sign a defensive left back and Mourinho would favor a sort of lopsided back 3, which he does in playing Darmian presently.

Rashford backs up Ibra and fights Lingard for some games out wide too as the 4th option for those 2 spots, or when it's 4-3-2-1, they are the first 2 backups with Herrera or Pogba or late games, Fellaini also able to play as a 10 if needed.

That should be enough games for everyone but Rashford, and at his age, starting 20 games and subbing in another 25 might be the right option anyways.

Possibility we keep Mata and sign Griezmann but unless we play mostly 4-3-2-1 it'll lead to someone, likely Mata, getting the boot.

I'm still thinking the summer will be Griezmann, a 6 and a LCB, and maybe we add an 8 to backup Herrera and Pogba but maybe not if Mourinho wants to keep Mata and play more 4-2-3-1 or he trusts one of Fellaini, Fosu-Mensah or Pereira to play 20-30 times in a midfield 3 and start massive games. Also If we sign a 6 who can also play CM well, like Saul, then he can cover them and Carrick can start, early least once a week.

Is there any actual remote possibility that we'd get him this month or has this thread moved a few pages in anticipation of what's gonna happen in summer?

If it's as simple as meeting his release clause then I don't see why not. Just a case of convincing the player to leave a team with a shot at the champions league though, and I'm sure that whatever chance we have of convincing him increases in the summer.

Me neither but he does need to improve on what he has shown this season. If he gets back to last season's form then he will definitely play a big part for us next season.
He's only a kid and is suffering the second season syndrome that come with most that have an excellent debut season. You can clearly see the talent and ability is genuine, especially in his last few performances.

If we sign him we can officially call ourselves the biggest club in the world in terms of huge players of our current time. Not even Barcelona will be able to match the kind of quality we have if you look at the money spent, names, quality etc. Griezmann is just mind-blowing. He's unfeckingbuyable. How the hell are we going to pull that one off? I promise to walk from England to Spain - NUDE - and carry him on my back if he would sign.
Griezmann is clearly very obtain able given his release clause

I'm normally cautious when a star name is linked but it just seems one that will happen

  • He only wears long sleeves in matches because his idol Beckham did
  • The number 7, soon to be vacant, would make him number 7 at United and for France
  • He is apparently a United fan
  • Loads of the more reliable sources seem to know we're interested, possible brief
  • United showed they're willing to spend big for class players
  • We have his "best friend" Pogba
  • Atletico will supposedly need the money because of the stadium move
I expect there will still be denials and twists to come like with any United transfer, but I'd be surprised if it didn't get there in the end

  • We've been telling you it's a done deal since the summer.

Hope you're right, he's my muppet target this summer.

"I wear long sleeves when I play because of Beckham, he did as well and he is my idol," he told Onda Cero.

"He had a lot of class on and off the pitch. That is what I liked about him. No one had the right foot he had. I've never spoken to him but I would like to."

Griezmann watched Beckham play for Manchester United as a boy and also wears the No. 7 jersey to honour his childhood idol.

If only we had a number 7 shirt going spare.

Joke post? You really think you can match Neymar / Suarez / Messi / Busquets / Rakitic / Alba and Pique?

De Gea / Griezmann (if you get him / Pogba are good for sure. But hyperbole me thinks your post is...

Exactly, it's just a matter of time

How are Busquets / Rakitic /Alba big names? Sure the front 3 are dynamite but the rest of the team are nothing but talented players like ourselves. Take Messi out and they're just another good team IMO.

This whole thing feels like the two clubs just flirting with each other, and Simeone at the other end of the bar shouting "would you two just feck!"

Quality player but if we got him, where would be play? I think we have more urgent and bigger problems. Still need a Carrick replacement and a WC CB in my opinion and the problem with these signings, sometimes they just dominant the summer and you lose sight of the other issues.

Also at some point we are gonna have to trust Martial and Rash more, and to me these just delay their development as yet another player potentially competing for those front 3 positions

A slight drop off, yes, although he's never been especially prolific (Ibrahimovic's goals/game ratio this season, for example, is higher than anything Griezmann has managed in his career thus far).

We can spent £200-250mil. Especially when Rooney+Schweinsteiger leave.

We can easily do both.

I guess. I also added whilst you were probably typing, I think it creates more problems for Martial and Rash as at some point they need to play more football. We have so many players competing for front 3 yet not enough for the 3 behind. I like Herrera but there are better players in Real, Barca, PSV and Bayern who offer more, Carrick needs to be replaced. Like I said, the problem with these signings and their complexities, they just dominate our summer and sometimes other issues become somewhat lost to these uber transfers.

I do agree with this to an extent.

I like how Spurs have used the last couple of windows. No marquee player, no huge attention, they've just quietly got the men they needed with minimal fuss or competition and they've strengthened key areas.

Whereas United have been getting better individual players, but have been leaving weak spots in the team. Ideally, we'll do both, strengthen key areas and get Griezmann as well to add quality.

Yeah Im not overly worried about him. Slightly worried, but not overly.

And the worry I have is more that we will lose him / let him go, that we wont see his ability flourish here. Absolutely convinced if he leaves or stays, one way or the other he has a big future.

Im sure we can arrange for Becks to give him a guided tour of Old Trafford/Carrington/Becks house if needs be if it will help :)

Exactly, seems every day this thread has the same discussion. I quote me from yesterday :)

We do need to strengthen in other areas but Im fairly sure we will be doing that for the other problem areas as well so not worrying about ''we need to buy a LB/RB/new tea lady etc.''

He soon turns 26, he will fulfill his potential here if he comes.

This surely has to happen doesn't it? Can't see anything else to make a more perfect checklist even if I try.

Antoine Griezmann

✔️ is French
✔️ is a United lifelong fan
✔️ is David Beckham's biggest fanboy
✔️ is hoping he could play with Pogba at club's level
✔️ is essentially allowed to leave by Simeone

United
✔️ freed up number 7 shirt
✔️ give no shit about money

If it falls through, football romance is dead.
Yeah it's happening.

If he comes, we're gonna need Stormzy to drop an absolute banger.
Yes!!

Great player but I really don't think we should go for him. He only excels in one position and the second you start having him on the wing it takes a lot out of his game. Sure he would make up for the lack of goals but imo our long term goal should be to get the best out of Pogba and I'm not sure signing Griezmann would do that.

Call me crazy but I'd prefer us go for Yannick Carrasco. Flexible player and one of the best dribblers in the world. Increased his goal output this season too.

I'm doubling down on Verratti to join Griezmann.

Griezmann Martial Mkhitaryan
Pogba Herrera
Verratti
