Manchester United transfer news and rumours
Manchester United are considering a move for Atletico Madrid forward
Antoine Griezmann after failing to land Pedro.
United were left red-faced on Wednesday when
Chelsea hijacked their attempts to sign the Spaniard, and now Louis van Gaal is having to quickly look for alternatives.
According to
The Mail,
United are admirers of Griezmann, who featured for France at the last World Cup.
Atletico though have inserted a £56m buy out clause in the player's contract, which could put even the big spending United off.
Griezmann has also been linked with a move to Chelsea, but that now appears unlikely after yesterday's dramatic swoop for Pedro.
The exciting attacker had an excellent first season in Spain and scored 25 goals playing mainly out wide and behind the striker.
Another alternative to Pedro is Southampton's
Sadio Mane, according to
The Telegraph.
The paper reported yesterday that
United made a bid for the Senegal international last week and are considering making a second one.
The figure offered last week was in the region of £15m, and Southampton are insisting that he is not for sale.
United though have raided the Saints for Luke Shaw and Morgan Schneiderlin over the last two summers, and Van Gaal is reportedly keen to force a deal through for Mane.
A less likely signing, though one that continues to be speculated about, is that of
Thomas Muller from Bayern Munich.
According to
The Star, Muller will be allowed to leave the Allianz Arena, but only if he puts in a transfer request.
Thomas Muller looks likely to stay in Munich this summer
The noises coming out of Munich however suggests that there's little chance of a deal happening, with the club's sporting executive Matthias Sammer rubbishing the speculation.
"His performances have caused a stir, not Thomas,” said Sammer.
Earlier in the summer Bayern’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge made it clear Muller would not be leaving, and Sammer reiterated that yesterday.
“We can’t be blamed for anything," he said. "Rummenigge was right when pointing out that he is a player who has no price tag.”
Finally, recently signed goalkeeper Sergio Romero says he wants
David de Gea to stay at Old Trafford, according to
talkSPORT.
"The truth is that I have no idea [if he will leave], but for me I hope that De Gea stays here because he's a good team-mate who always works hard and that is best for the group," the Argentinian goalkeeper said.
