There's no time to activate his clause now and I don't think we ever really showed any interest this summer but man it's a shame as he'd really finish off our attack (although we'd lack depth still).

Anyone who thought this deal was a goer was really clutching at straws. And then when Griezmann tweeted that cryptic message yesterday people went in to overdrive haha.
 
this will be the Vidal rumour all over again wont it?. Everyone wanted him, he made so much sense, but a move never materializes and then a year later he signs for a superior club in Bayern.

There is no comparison to Vidal at all. We've barely been linked to Griezmann. Vidal was a summer long saga.

but from a fan perspective there were plenty on here that wanted him A) before any actual talk got released, and B) who would have still been talking about him and wanting him even if there was no reports or talk like there isnt with Griezmann. So yeah it is

Yeah but just because we wanted him doesn't mean it's a goer mate. We want Ronaldo and Messi but we aren't in for them. The reports have been few and far between. The reason this thread is still going is because we are all desperate for quality, he can play on the right and he is a united fan. It's more desperation from us than anything.

We've had this update from our very own Mark Ogden:

"One possible long-shot for Manchester United is a move for Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann. Louis van Gaal has been a long-term admirer of the 24-year-old France international, who has a £46.1m release clause at the Vicente Calderon. With just seven hours to go before the transfer deadline, however, it would take some very quick work from United to get a deal done."

Well that's wrong for a start. He signed a new deal with the buyout increased to £56m I believe so it ain't happening. Good to see the journo's know their stuff.

If he has a release clause as reported, we can trigger in January if he's playing well.

Obviously no one likes to sell mid-season so a release clause would make it much more or a possibility.

His release clause is around €80m, I never heard of a high profile player like that moving in Jan, and why would A. Madrid sell?
If we wanted him (and we had our shit together), we should have triggered his clause earlier this summer when it was about £40M.

We missed the boat with Griezmann, we were chasing Bale, Muller and Ramos all summer.
 
Some of the comments are really mean. One person wrote "who think they're hard men on the internet when both of them are no doubt little worms in real life." Wow, does he not realise he is acting rude on the internet.
 
No chance of Greizmann in January...let it go.....Atletico do not seel their best players in January because they more than likely will have a very good chance of making a go of winning La Liga and the CL

My point is that they will be powerless to stop the sale if the release clause is met.

Without a release clause, I agree they wouldn't sell in Jan.
