Fair enough, just posting as warning to myself not to get involved to avoid inevitable disappointment. :D Would love to be wrong and see him sign for us though, immense player.

People talk about CL and us playing badly but I don't think that he wants to leave Spain, so even if we were a top team he would not necessarily join us.

I don't doubt that, he's just in a much better environment at the moment. Playing in Europe is seen as a big factor for a lot of players though, especially a player of Antoine's calibre who is most likely aiming for the top, which we just can't seem to offer at this current stage. Maybe at the end of Louis' 3 year process though. :wenger:

Not sure if it's been posted but, during a Q&A session Balague thinks every top PL club are after him. He also says Althletico want to renew his contract and he'd be happy to stay their if the terms were right.

We should absolutely pay the release clause for him. However I doubt that he'd fancy a move, because let's face it it'd be a downgrade for him at the moment Atletico is in the CL final and we are unlikely to even make top 4 this year. He'd be exactly what we need though and a brilliant player, maybe Schneiderlin, Martial and his brother can convince him to move :)

Gripping stuff that from Ballbag.

'see I said X was after him.'
'see I said he'd sign a new contract.'

Bases covered.

Antoine Griezmann “not very interested” in PSG

According to Le Parisien, Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann is “not very interested” in the possibility of joining PSG this summer.

This news comes a day after L’Équipe revealed that the Atletico Madrid man was PSG’s new primary target.

Instead, it appears as if Griezmann is set on remaining with Atleti for next season

It makes sense, he is playing in a much better league for a better team and he is well settled in Spain.

Also, it seems that his not interested in joining Real Madrid.

He just said this:

"If Zidane calls me [and asks me to join Real] I will say that I'm at Atletico," Griezmann said.

"Zidane is a great person, but I'm here. I'm even talking to renew my contract. I hope [the talks] will succeed."

His current deal is set to expire in 2020.

He said nothing about United

Jokes aside, what a player he has turned out to be.

Despite being a united fan a can't see him trading atletico for us.

Settled team in two out of past three champions league finals, a manager who may well go on to prove himself as the best over the next few years (quite possibly is right now to be fair)

Or a team in shambles with no CL or a lame duck of a manager that's leaving in a year.

I'd prefer Antoine over James I course. But we have ten times the chance of landing Rodriguez

Don't sound like he ever wants to leave. Who can blame him, really?

He isn't going anywhere.

Don't even tease! The idea of signing Griezmann would make me a bigger muppet than Rio!

Wonderful player

This guy is on the verge of being a superstar, already at a top-echelon, world-class elite level. For any slim hope of signing him (unrealistic as it may be), I hope he gets his Champions League winners medal with Atletico this Saturday to offset the lack of CL football next season.

We should do everything we can to get him.

Ibra
Martial Griezmann RW

Would completely transform our attack and instantly have us competing for the league.

His agent could have kept his mouth shut for another 3 days

Seriously.

My strong suspicion is that Griezmann and his agent just want a better contract. Atleti will benefit enormously from the new La Liga TV deal. Their revenues from domestic broadcasting have been in the 40-45m euro range but starting in 2016-17 will be rising to around 116m euro. The following year they move to the new stadium and that will improve their matchday revenues significantly.

Basically, Atleti is on the verge of a huge financial windfall that will really change the outlook for the club. Griezmann is one of their most important players, is under contract until 2020 on wages that don't reflect his quality, and probably wants his piece of the pie.

From Atleti's standpoint, selling Griezmann makes absolutely zero sense, on the field or off. They don't really need the money and its very important for them to keep building on their success of the last few years, especially as they move into the new stadium. They don't always sell out the Calderon and the new stadium has 20,000 more seats so they really need to keep putting a very high quality product on the field to try to grow attendance.

Sorry to throw cold water on all the muppets out there...

He is in negociation for a new contract, that's why his agent talked.

Great post. Good to have some perspective.

Seconded. Good post.

I think he not that long ago came out and said he wanted to stay at Atleti and why not, always being there and there abouts in the CL and the league. An agent doing his job!

Don't sound like he ever wants to leave. Who can blame him, really?
Yeah, especially if they win CL on Saturday. Why would he leave. They will strengthen in the summer, Simone has committed to more years, etc...

If Atletico doesn't always sell out the current stadium, why build a new one?

Yes but it doesn't matter what it looks like from Atleticos prospective since if he goes it will be for his buyout clause.

Would be amazing if we pulled off the trifecta of Frenchies - Pogba, Griezmann, and Varane.

So Atletico are getting a new stadium and some tv money.. Anyone would wonder why they couldn't just by their own players 4 years ago... But yet they are soon to become cash rich? They should forward these plans to Arsenal just incase they decide to move stadium again..
