Do we know if Griezmann is actually a United fan, or did he just have a huge man crush on Beckham?
I don't think he's a united fan so to speak, but he watched us a lot when Beckham was activate, I'm sure that gave him a soft spot for the club.

His brother is ACTUALLY a mad utd fan though, so that certainly goes in our favour.

I see, thanks.

We need to get Theo Griezmann on the Cafe.

I bet he's a member already actually, probably stuck in the newbs.

He's not going to leave in the winter ffs

Woodward will activate that release clause, Griezmann will join Utd.

It's a matter of when and not if in my opinion.

Already trying to decide if i should get his name on the back of the home or away shirt next season.

Juve said Pogba wasnt for sale until the minute he signed

Marotta faced the press and said we hadn't spoken to juve about pogba

Herrera was almost in Manchester when Bilbao tweeted we hadn't done the deal.

I trust club spokesmen/women as much as I trust twitter ITK's

The ban will make him more determined to leave if anything. He said he wants to move for trophies and AM need investment to compete.

It's a formality at this point, I expect Woodward was waiting to see if the ban was upheld before making an offer. If it wasn't upheld we might have had some room for negotiation, as it is we will probably just have to pay suck it up and pay the money.

He's not going to Bayern either, he's already said the BL doesn't really excite him.

He's going to join his mate Pogba on huge money here.
it'll be just like when we signed Vidal all over ag.. oh wait.

sure there was a picture of him when he was younger playing for RS holding the United top in one hand and the RS one in the other. Could have been imaging that though

Wait, isn't the ban being upheld a good thing for us? Atletio can't strengthen so he wants to go somewhere else to win things?
I'm 100% sure that was the line of thinkinh after his 6/10 comment

It also means we can't negotiate, so we'll be going with his release clause if we buy him.

I think the issue has been whether the ban remaining would effect Griezmann's thoughts about leaving them in the lurch.

Because it's a buyout clause, it's essentially down to his decision making. Atletico are just watching at this point.

Its more likely that since the ban is still up till 2018, they are gonna try to force Griezmann to stay until next year.

Although they won't have much choice if we decide to pay the buyout clause (us or any other club). If Im not mistaken his buyout clause is something around 85M so I can see us doing it.

BREAKING: Man Utd have reached an agreement with Griezmann’s representatives. His release clause must now be activated. [@MatteoPedrosi]

Grats Man Utd fans and thank you for doing us a favour lmao

Wouldn't we have to activate his release clause before speaking to the player/his representatives?

In theory yes, but let's be honest that never happens anymore. Agent's do the deals behind the scenes and then "do the club deal". No point clubs bidding for a player if they don't want to join, is there?

Unless they have given us permission to speak to them first to see if a deal could be reached. But now it has they want us to activate the release fee clause rather than bidding lower than it for him.

The release clause is not the only card in play here. Griezmann has a say.

If he doesn't want to join United in the summer, no release clause can force him to do so.

That's just to say that leaving in the winter is very, very possible. It's all about how the parties involved negotiate.

Having said that, I do agree that Woodward (and Jose) wouldn't buy into that idea. It's the unfavourable option for United. If we squeeze enough and Griezmann is desperate for a United move, then ban or no ban, Summer is it.

It might not be if Griezmann is determined not to leave Atletico in a limbo. I hear he is a team man to his bones (another reason why I will like him at United).

Yes but people just assumed that, I haven't seen it reported anywhere.
If anything the reports from Spain said he wanted to talk to Atletico about their plans and this was a tactic to get them to spend money thia summer.
IMO he wasnts to win (as he has said) and Atletico being punished like this slows him down from his goal.
He seems fed up,

We never have luck with big transfers, always some doubts and slight twist and turns. This one will drag on into July.

Since when did all the world class footballers at our team or potentially coming to our team require such specific circumstances to excel? If these players are so limited as you say then why did we even want them...

Griezmann has everything Mata has and more yet he cannot play as a no.10...very strange. Pogba has one of the best passing range and vision in the world and is a physical powerhouse yet people think he should be pushed up the field where he can have less influence on the game.

Yeah it's utter madness. It's like some people seem to think football was invented five years ago, or loads of players wouldn't have had a decent career in the century previous.

It doesn't really make much difference once they have the ball at their feet and are doing their stuff.

I don't think Griezmann can play as a 10 at all. He'll play behind the striker but he's never been a number 10 in his life and he won't suddenly turn into one. I don't think he's similar to any of the players you listed either or that he can be a eight and a half without the ball like Mourinho says. I'll leave it at that as we're getting a bit off topic too and I bored myself. Let's just agree on disagreeing and we'll see how things are once the season starts.

Fair enough mate, i dont think Pogba and Griezmann can work in a 4-4-2 either. And Mourinho is not gonna use him as a DM either (he used Herrera and Carrick as DMs this season because in the few games Pogba was deep he was shite).

Next season will be interesting if we get the targets we want.

If the ban is not lifted, it will be hard for him to leave as they cant sign any replacement and that would kill their first season at the new stadium.
