Get your muppet on...

PS. That's the hairstyle that suits him

Whomever does Puma' ads can we get them for United and Adidas? That is so cool. Great production.

This guy will be great for marketing. Be shocked if Woody's not salivating at the prospect. Think we'll get him tbh.

An excellent player proven at every stage he's been at, any sceptics of this signing (or the Fabinho one for that matter) are watching different players than I am. Will fit in unbelievably well at Old Trafford

For whatever reason, its not seen as proper for footballers to just come out and tell the truth, which is that they want to make as much money as possible, just like most other people. So you hear a lot about wanting to win trophies and tradition at certain clubs but in the end the three most important considerations are wages, wages, and wages.* No offense to all you United fans, but if Griezmann's most important motivation was to win trophies - meaning the big five domestic leagues and the Champions League - he would be intent on joining Juventus, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG, or Real Madrid. The Premier League is too competitive at the top to expect any club to dominate domestically and English teams have been absolute shit in Europe for a long while now.

*"Wages" as a shorthand that also encompasses other financial considerations like image rights, bonuses, etc.

A handsome, blond, blue-eyed Frenchman with a clean image? Of course he'd be great for marketing!

His marketing potential is probably not far off Beckham. If he comes good here and we manage to win the title (or even better the CL) with him being pivotal, then he could really explode marketing-wise.

It must be another thing that plays on his mind. I remember peak-Beckham used to earn more from sponsorships and advertising than from his Utd salary.

Are you serious

"Like Berbatov"

Probably.

I cant fathom how people don't know that the Guy is a fecking world class foward.

The amount of melts who come out with "he's not what we need" but all season we have bemoaned the fact we can't put our chances away. Oh look a striker that can finish very difficult chances and not rely on supply to do it "nah thanks not what we're looking for"

Feck off

The same people who were wanking over a washed up Schweinsteiger

His marketing appeal will start exploding the moment he signs for us imo. Will obviously go up another level if he actually managed to play well and win major trophies with us.

Thoughtful post MadDogg,
Maybe I'm overrating Atleticos success, on the European front they seem to be doing alright at least. Pretty sure they're in the semis most years. Domestically they'll struggle to win La Liga over Barcelona or Real.

Moving to United will most certainly grant him domestic success, he can be sure to win the premier league title a few times if he's there long enough.

But on the European front I think remaining at Atletico is a better option. It's a trade off I guess. Maybe I was overstating their success.

2 trophies in the last 10 years is a bit surprising, seems like they reached a new level in recent years. How long ago was it when they last one La Liga? Seems like it wasn't long but now I'm thinking maybe I'm recalling it wrong.

Time flies....

Are you drunk, or are you just blinded by fear/bitterness when it comes to United?

Jose Mourinho has won 4 European titles in 14-years as a manager. In that time, he has also been to the quarter-finals in EVERY single year he's been in Europe. EVERY year. Been to the semis a total of 8 times. Mourinho guarantees being competitive in Europe. 100% of the time.

United fans weren't celebrating winning the Europa trophy last week, they knew by qualifying for the CL that they would be dining at the very top end of Europe next year. Get your money on United going far in the CL next season....Mourinho guarantees it. Griezmann knows this. I guess everyone knows it, except bitters who are blinded by their hatred for United.

He's not said where he wants to go.
Agreed. He is clinical so will score goals but he will not do much to improve team fluidity and he will struggle with the physicality of the EPL.

First part ridiculousness its own right but the second is the myth that keeps on giving.

I mean it's not as if all the best players in the PL since it's fecking inception were foreign is it?

Oh wait....

That fecking myth needs to die hard. You would think that all the best players in the world were English or somehow spawned in the EPL or were home grown talents.

Nope thats been sorted out. It's easier to activate exit clauses for foreign teams in Spain.

As I understand it the tax treatment was altered but the money still goes via the player.

Was I quoted there in error?

I know you weren't talking to me... but reading your post made me laugh. Records can be broken. Just because mourinho has had success in the past does not 'guarantee' success for you.

You seem to have an issue with people that dare criticise united.

It would be foolish to say that money isn't a major factor but money isn't everything. Do you think City couldn't better our offer? Do you think Real and Barcelona couldn't help him achieve global megastar status?

There are maybe 10-15 clubs in Europe that could theoretically afford Greizmann but for the real top, top talent like Griezmann and Pogba last year (and ultimately Ronaldo when we were on the wrong end of it) some clubs just win players hearts and have that draw that is unique. Bayern don't have it for non-Germans because the league isn't big enough and Juventus have the same issue with non-Italians because Serie A is not a major draw. PSG go in this pot.

I think personally that Utd, Real and Barcelona are in unique positions. Filthy rich, oozing with history and play in top European leagues

Because it's the decent thing to do? Surely he won't just leave without telling them his intentions first so they can plan accordingly.

No it's because if a player asks to leave the club don't have to pay his loyalty bonus, so they keep all the transfer money.

Not entirely true. He was eliminated at the last 16 in 2006, 2009, 2015.

I think a lot of times it's a mixture of wages, prestige, and location (includes weather, culture, and language), how much importance you give is completely dependent on the person. Family and friends can play a part, especially if you want to live with your wife/girlfriend. Agreed on not being much different from most people.

Like Wenger guarantees Champions League football every year yeah? And the person you were quoting was probably referring to Athletico being in 2 finals and 1 Semi-final in the past 4 years which carries more substance behind it than your post.

If he does come to United, then he'll have to get rid of this shite celebration.

So is his initials seriously ARG ?
because thats pretty great, one of my favourite noises
just behind GYA

Never understood people who criticize player's celebration, especially if they are tame. It's his goal, he can celebrate it however the hell he wants as long as it's not hateful. Puma made a hell of an ad based on that celebration.

A little bit out of topic maybe but what's with Manchester? I visited last year and absolutely loved it. Peaceful and a very nice city I think.
Dunno. Just because it doesn't have beaming weather year round there's this imagined stigma. Fact is there's everything you could want being a top footballer in Manchester.

At least those who hate it are consistent. The amount of piss that was boiled over Sturridge's dance was/is absurd.

Most places struggle when compared with London, Paris, Milan, Madrid and Barcelona and them kind of places.
Manchester is nice enough, your not moving to the ass end of nowhere

I love it personally, but I think that's only cause he's coming to us. Trademark celebrations really piss off oppos so the more the merrier for me.1
