We shall see, but if someone is purchased to play his position, with the World Cup coming up, hes going to want to be a nailed on starter.

Even more reason for Martial to work his bollocks off and make the position his. Competition has never been a bad thing.

Why Griezmann's future might not be sorted in two weeks
Peculiarly, France have three fixtures to fulfil at the start of next month: Paraguay on June 2, Sweden on June 9 and England on June 13.

Paul Pogba could not complete his United transfer sooner last year because of the Euros and M.E.N. Sport revealed agents were banned from France’s hotel, so the players’ focus was not compromised.

France’s upcoming fixtures are less significant but Didier Deschamps remains in charge, so the likelihood is Griezmann’s ‘two weeks’ estimation (which he mentioned eight days ago) could be more like three weeks.

You would hope that, unlike with Pogba, Griezmann’s deal (if it happens) is concluded before his inevitable month-long holiday. Mourinho has, of course, set his own deadline for signings: July 9.

Saul talks prospect of Griezmann transfer
“In the end, Antoine Griezmann can manage his future as he wishes,” Saul told Marca and AS Diario. “He is with us. We are waiting for him in pre-season and finally his future he will decide.

“If Antoine Griezmann leaves we have Torres, Gameiro, Correa and Carrasco.

“He is a very important player for us, we know the quality he has, but most importantly no one player is above the club.”

Why i feel there is always some excuse why United transfers can't be sorted fast. Sometimes it's Euros, then World Cup. Next year player have his holiday in America or United is in Asian tour. If not that, then Woodward is on holiday. And finally, we always let other teams time to buy their new players first that our signing don't raise their prices. :)

Some teams like City and Bayern has shown, it's not impossible to close a deals fast.

Cause every transfer is the same right..

If the rumour is right that griezmann is waiting for the ban to be lifted so he doesn't feel like he's leaving Atletico in the lurch, there's little we can do about it. Yeah in a perfect world, we could've just paid it now and we'd have griezmann as quick as city got silva, but that can't happen.

Also, don't forget that the pogba deal was only that long because of Juve and Riaola trying to haggle out a fee. Riaola probably extended the transfer by weeks so he could get the right cut.

I don't mean anything bad (and don't take these too serious) but this just sounds only one more excuse on the list. And yes, i know it's only end of may. But i have feeling, we will see some long United saga(s) again this summer. We have financial power to make big signings but i really feel we are not the best ones to close our deals. Sometimes i feel Bayern just come, snap their fingers and close a deal. Benatia, Vidal, Thiago, Sanches, Hummels... Same with City. And Bayern even doesn't pay high fees. It's amazing how they can make it look so easy. ;)

Doing some next Jedi trick on his shorts there..

Don't you realize that away from City, no team has actually entered the market yet ?

Not really, Thiago took quite a while to close and there was a pretty drawn out saga (and the caf thread documents it). Sometimes other clubs deals seem faster because we don't follow every news so closely when it's not United. Anyway, most transfer deals take a while. How long they seem to take is mostly down to how far in advance the press gets a whiff of it. For example, I doubt we actually signed Bailly in three days, we just kept that one under wraps well.

Among the french players, he's close to Pogba, Lacazette, Benzema and Evra. Gameiro maybe too.

I don't think that he's friends with Martial.

Ah fair enough. The more friends you have the bigger the lure is to come and play with them, which is why I asked. It does seem like he has a very good relationship with Pogba though so that's a boost.

Is there only a certain time his release can be activated ? surely we could just go in with the money now and get the deal over the line ?

It is also likely that a lot of unseen legwork has been done prior to the announcement. It always seems unbearable for us because we are watching and waiting on Utd transfers all the time. Other clubs' fans have their own waiting game too but you aren't on their forums to observe their impatience.

Also it is a practical situation. If I am a seller and I know my buyer is loaded and probably getting more desperate as other clubs lock up the other options first, I will delay as much as I can to squeeze more money.

The quickest way to get a deal done is to overpay, but it still takes two hands to clap.

Just putting this out there right away so I can tell you "I told you so" or you can all ridicule me later on depending on who will be right.

I think Griezemann is not as good as he's made to be. He doesn't influence the game enough and is not worth the 100 mil €+ that you'll end up paying for him.

From commercial perspective it's a dream signing because it pushes you above all EPL contenders in the "galactico/superstar squad" segment, and puts you right below Real and Barca in that sense, but on the pitch I think he's just not worth it.

Time will tell..

Interesting though. On a sidenote, I have never seen a single post from you which is even slightly positive when it comes to United. Do you really think we are that bad or perhaps you don't like us at all?

I wouldn't be here if I didn't have a soft spot for you. ;)

I just think that some of your fans here severely overrate your squad and underrate certain players out there so my posts sound like I'm criticizing you all the time.

He's probably a bit salty but I can also see where he is coming from. I don't think I've ever seen Griezmann stand out in a game for me. That might be because I haven't watch enough of him or whatever but for sure I can see that he scores goals and that's what we need more than anything.

Nah, he was semi-positive about Perisic, didn't laugh at us or go doom mode like most United fans on here.
Think he's actually right on Griezmann, good player that will score goals for us, no question but won't really add a new dimension to our attacking play by himself, doesn't seem that type of player when you watch Atletico.

Which is very worrying.

Cool, good to know and I agree that we do overrate some of our player.

On Griezmann, he may not be worth the fee but which player is worth their fee in current market? Every decent player is grossly overpriced and I don't think there is a single player of Griezmann's quality on market which we can bring in.

How do people rate him? I saw him a bit during the Euros and the past season at Atletico.
He's a really good player, but is he a 100m player? (euros)

How much of a difference would he make to our attacking play if he signed, and where would we play him?
