COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT...

it's fecking on

I like being a transfer muppet but if Griezmann doesn't join us I think I have to take an extended break From football.

I am aware of your opinion, I just don't understand how someone could logically come to that conclusion, at least not with any vehemence. (And, FYI, using a link to 'whoscored' in a debate ALWAYS makes you look bad. Always. Seriously, autism is the business of the NHS, not RedCafe). But, squabbles aside, the point is moot; Manchester United under Jose Mourinho WILL NOT play a 'second striker'. So they will need to play him somewhere else and try and make it work, or not sign him at all. He spent the majority of his career wide right, so that is where he will likely go. It really is that simple.
Mourinho will probably play him as a mixture of SS and number 10 in a 4-2-3-1, a formation he's played plenty of times this season. In big games where he wants 3 CMs he'll probably play out wide.

IIRC, Griezmann played wide left at Sociedad with Vela on the right most of the time. At Sociedad he was very good but not amazing like he's been the past three seasons, Vela was the more impressive player then.

Never really watched him, believed he was a slow #10 and wasn't excited but man this guy actually runs at people. Muppet mode engaged.

Isn't he basically saying that he'll decide his future after talking to his agents? It's on lads. Relax.

Not gonna lose any sleep over this.

If he didn't come out with this, there will be bedlam amongst his current club fans.

Can't wait for him to sign, don't think he will need any bedding-in.

Don't get your hopes up too high, @Zii ! He's an amazing goalscorer but dribbling isn't one of his strong points. I'd liken his dribbling to Mkhi's. He's capable of going on these bursting runs but isn't going to consistently take players on every game.

Who starts a rumour and then complains that the rumours are unfounded? Griezmann must be like Joey from Friends..

[Scene: The street, Joey is hanging out wearing his Porsche gear.]

Joey: Why isn’t that valet back with my Porsche?

Passerby: Maybe because you’ve got the keys?

Is it a buyout or a release clause?

What's the difference betweem the two?

It's a buyout clause. It's distinctly different to a release clause and mandatory for all players registered in Spain. A release clause is basically a clause in the contract with a specified amount that when triggered by a buyer means the player's current club have to allow him to negotiate with the buyer.

On the other hand a buyout clause is a specified amount which the player has to pay himself, to buyout his own contract. So if we trigger the buyout clause we will give the money to Antoinne, who will then pay Atletico himself, hence 'buying out his contract'.

Technically this means we could advance negotiations very quickly by triggering the clause, and we can force Atletico to listen by doing so. I'm guessing we ourselves are waiting for Antoinne before going ahead and doing so.

So much nonsense being posted in here now. Can anyone recap what's actually been said and reported over the last 24 hours please?

Thanks,

A grumpy and tired peanut.

Based on precedents the future club can buy the contract for the player.

Buyout clauses could also cost a lot more than the initial fee and can take longer to execute

Doubt a third party is allowed to buyout the contract. The usual process is future clubs gives money to player who then buys out his contract. This usually has tax and legal issues.

Which deal is the precedent you are referencing?

If we arent signing Griezmann now B.Silva has gone to ciry it will basically be impossible to have a good transfer summer.
