Anthony Who?

Never really heard of that lad but after reading at least 5 articles today I am convinced he is not a Panic buy and easily worth whatever the fecking Price is

Yes but he's better than Rooney, Falcao and RvP.
He is. If he was cheap and insane, I'd say go for it. If he was expensive and sane, I'd say go for it. We could do without paying someone huge wages that has the potential to fall out with our manager and end up playing with the kids, though.

I think we are weaker than last year. Midfield is solid, attack is no existent, defence is average and keeper is worse.

Still a day to change that though and a top quality addition or 2 is now essential.
Defence is far from average... Darmian, Shaw and smalling would walk in any side in the league. Huge improvement compared to what we saw last season. An excellent midfield with very good depth as well. Our problem with the attack is more tactics then personnel though now its looking light on depth. Goalkeeper is worse but still a good goalkeeper for sure (definitely better then mignolet for example). But still we are definitely good enough for about 3rd really. We'll see how it goes.

Yes, but if we're paying £36m for 'potential' it's a much bigger risk than paying for an established player.

The word 'potential' is revered in football for ridiculous reasons, and has become more important than actual ability, it seems. Any player can get away with being inconsistent, not scoring enough, giving the ball away as long as they're young, because then they have 'potential.'

Potential didn't win trophies.

Potential pretty much won all our Premiership titles. RVP being a notable exception

Cleverly, Welbeck, Evans...

Since van gaals been here?
I hope its not the case and I hope Januzaj still has a future at the club but when LVG has loaned out UTD since he's been here they have slim to none chance to make back into the team. I guess time will tell..

Pat Nevin bigging him up on the radio just now, says he is a special player.

Keeper: Can only be a downstep after having had the world`s number 1
Defense: Clearly better. Still not 100 % sure about Blind but I hope he will improve
Midfield: We have one now
Attack: This is worrying. I have not been a fan of selling AdM who is clearly one class above anything else we have available. Rooney was great against a weak Team as was Memphis. Mr Henry 2.0 better might come good...

LVG shouldn't be able to sell any youth players at the end of the current campaign, he will only have 1 season left on his own contract by then, so the futures of the likes of Januzaj, Wilson, Pereira should be taken well away from his hands.

I hope Martilal does well but i fear a few bad passes resulting in loss of possession will only result in the same fate as the likes of Di Maria, Herrera and Januzaj.

I know i sound like a grumpy sod today but LVG is annoying me terribly so far this season.

I've been disappointed by too many "finished articles". I remember thinking Veron was a real statement that we could compete for anyone in the transfer market. Same last year when we signed Falcao and Di Maria. Give me a Depay or a Martial any day

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited as anyone by players like Memphis/Martial, but they wont win us the league for a good few years (if at all).

Only know him from fifa ... Anyone watching this guy on a regular basis and if so, is he any good? Spunking a lot of money on a 19year old playing for feckin Monaco.

He's better than Memphis. But will need time to adjust to the EPL. He's one for the future, will probably struggle this season.

is he seriously better than Memphis?
If he was that great at least some of us in here might have heard his name before today.

I have no clue who this guy is. does he have good chance to justify the hefty price tag? does he have the mentality to take on the pressure?

Honestly never heard anything about him.

Then again I had never heard of Ronaldo either and countless other young players before they arrived.

Our defence is definitely better than it was last season which is why the apparent downgrade from DDG wasn't noticeable in the games before the cluster feck yesterday. Navas is better than Romero, Shaw and Smalling have improved, Darmian is an upgrade on Rafael/Valencia and then we can expect substantial improvement from Jones and Rojo.

If we sign an established attacker tomorrow then it can be argued that we would have emerged from this window stronger. But if we loan out Wilson on top of Januzaj then shit would have really hit the fan and the Glazers might have to step in and clear these idiots out of our club.

Even now I still can't believe that we've spent £36m on a teenager that wasn't really setting the french league on fire when that amount could have secured us a more established player ready to make a difference right now.

Apparently French media saying it should be done in the next few minutes.

His potential is huge. Many view him as the next big thing in France, has the potential to reach henry level, etc.. Some very similar qualities as well. He's only 19 but was terrific against Valencia in both games and looked their main player. Looked very good vs arsenal last season as well. Loads of pace, is a strong runner on the ball and great at going past players. Only seen him a handful of times but those who regularly see him say he's a good finisher as well. But he can have an immediate impact for sure I think.

Not that I disagree with you about the Martial signing but who could we have signed for an equivalent fee that meets those criteria?

If we don't bring an established striker in then there is going to be a ridiculous amount of pressure on this 19 year old lad to perform week in week out.

Only negative aspects ive been hearing about him is his attitude, anyone have anything more concrete on this?

Glad to see the cafe is honest and no one's really seen him.

I don't have a clue what his position is and it seems so called experts in the media don't know either after seeing him regularly. He'll suit LvG in that aspect then.

I see the rival fans have gone missing since the £36M fee appeared to be more concrete as opposed to the 80M euros.

From what I heard is he got that sorted last season after being too inconsistent when he was a 16/17 year old so I'm not worried about that at at all.

Which criteria, 19 and relatively unproven? On a more serious note I feel that our immediate needs would have been sorted if we had just kept Robin or gone for Jackson Martinez, even Benteke looks a better deal for what we need right now. Signing for potential is all good when you have a Ruud Van Nistelrooy shouldering the scoring burden not an undroppable, unsubbable out of sorts has-been Captain of a team still finding it's feet in a rudderless era.

I'm going to call this now. He's going to take about 6 months to settle in and get used to the PL but when he does he'll be solid and put in a string of good performances towards the end of the season.
