wants Amber Rudd to call him a naughty boy
We can. We have. Doesn't mean we want to (we clearly don't, as we didn't sign Falcao and let RVP go).As if we can't afford to pay £300k a week for average strikers.

He is. If he was cheap and insane, I'd say go for it. If he was expensive and sane, I'd say go for it. We could do without paying someone huge wages that has the potential to fall out with our manager and end up playing with the kids, though.Yes but he's better than Rooney, Falcao and RvP.
Defence is far from average... Darmian, Shaw and smalling would walk in any side in the league. Huge improvement compared to what we saw last season. An excellent midfield with very good depth as well. Our problem with the attack is more tactics then personnel though now its looking light on depth. Goalkeeper is worse but still a good goalkeeper for sure (definitely better then mignolet for example). But still we are definitely good enough for about 3rd really. We'll see how it goes.I think we are weaker than last year. Midfield is solid, attack is no existent, defence is average and keeper is worse.
Still a day to change that though and a top quality addition or 2 is now essential.

Yes, but if we're paying £36m for 'potential' it's a much bigger risk than paying for an established player.
The word 'potential' is revered in football for ridiculous reasons, and has become more important than actual ability, it seems. Any player can get away with being inconsistent, not scoring enough, giving the ball away as long as they're young, because then they have 'potential.'
Potential didn't win trophies.
Cleverly, Welbeck, Evans...
Potential pretty much won all our Premiership titles. RVP being a notable exception
You don't win the league with potential huh. Never heard that before. The league has moved on I'm afraid.

Since van gaals been here?
I hope its not the case and I hope Januzaj still has a future at the club but when LVG has loaned out UTD since he's been here they have slim to none chance to make back into the team. I guess time will tell..
I've been disappointed by too many "finished articles". I remember thinking Veron was a real statement that we could compete for anyone in the transfer market. Same last year when we signed Falcao and Di Maria. Give me a Depay or a Martial any day
He was okay tooCantona?
They are about £50m down on revenue.err difference how?
Didn't know that until nowWorks the other way too, Sterling was a Man Utd fan, and Daglish was a Man Utd & Celtic fan.....
He's better than Memphis. But will need time to adjust to the EPL. He's one for the future, will probably struggle this season.
Our defence is definitely better than it was last season which is why the apparent downgrade from DDG wasn't noticeable in the games before the cluster feck yesterday. Navas is better than Romero, Shaw and Smalling have improved, Darmian is an upgrade on Rafael/Valencia and then we can expect substantial improvement from Jones and Rojo.I think we are weaker than last year. Midfield is solid, attack is no existent, defence is average and keeper is worse.

His potential is huge. Many view him as the next big thing in France, has the potential to reach henry level, etc.. Some very similar qualities as well. He's only 19 but was terrific against Valencia in both games and looked their main player. Looked very good vs arsenal last season as well. Loads of pace, is a strong runner on the ball and great at going past players. Only seen him a handful of times but those who regularly see him say he's a good finisher as well. But he can have an immediate impact for sure I think.I have no clue who this guy is. does he have good chance to justify the hefty price tag? does he have the mentality to take on the pressure?
Even now I still can't believe that we've spent £36m on a teenager that wasn't really setting the french league on fire when that amount could have secured us a more established player ready to make a difference right now.

Not that I disagree with you about the Martial signing but who could we have signed for an equivalent fee that meets those criteria?
Only negative aspects ive been hearing about him is his attitude, anyone have anything more concrete on this? His potential is huge. He's as reliable as they get in France iirc from the Schneiderlin deal.
From what I heard is he got that sorted last season after being too inconsistent when he was a 16/17 year old so I'm not worried about that at at all.Only negative aspects ive been hearing about him is his attitude, anyone have anything more concrete on this?
Which criteria, 19 and relatively unproven? On a more serious note I feel that our immediate needs would have been sorted if we had just kept Robin or gone for Jackson Martinez, even Benteke looks a better deal for what we need right now. Signing for potential is all good when you have a Ruud Van Nistelrooy shouldering the scoring burden not an undroppable, unsubbable out of sorts has-been Captain of a team still finding it's feet in a rudderless era.Not that I disagree with you about the Martial signing but who could we have signed for an equivalent fee that meets those criteria?
