What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

I think that is a good assessment we moved a season early when we could and got it done

If we didn't sign him, you'd have people crying next summer when he joins Barca why we'd not signed him when we could. Fickle bastards.

I think that crown belongs to Hachim Mastour but I think you meant teenagers playing first team football

Yeah I haven't seen him play enough at the highest level.

Agree with every word said there 100% If the club wants to sign someone just to generate buzz, and with a desirable effect that teams playing us will think twice we are an push-over nowadays. But to sign an unknown with this fee what signal is it going to give?

Apart from the "potential" he can become the next CR7 or Bale (Any potential with lesser fee can do that) what goal is going to be had? I wonder what our players think of this signing but we will never find out because everyone will be toeing the line.

Even signing back Evra or RvP is a better option in my opinion haha

I bet they're thinking "what the feck? Why didn't they spend more on me?". I bet Herrera is cringing in embarrassment at the club choosing to pay less for him than they have on this 19 year old.

He'll be cringing in embarrassment at a lot of things but not this.....

I was for the signing but, now with the current state of the squad we are going to have to be very reliant on him if we do sign him this summer.

Yup he'll probably leave in the winter out of sheer embarrassment.

Really hope this deal collapses (in more ways than one)and teaches Van Gaal a lesson.

He was 17 two years ago... Now he is 19, turning 20, and is one of the highest rated u21 players around. Maybe the highest. Chelsea and Barca both apparently bid 40m for him and were rejected saying he's not leaving at any price.
Step forward Raheem Sterling.

£36M is a lot of money, but I'm excited. This guy is quite possibly the hottest teenager in world football and we're signing him. What's the problem?

Chelsea and Barca wanted him, we're going to get him before the vultures round next summer.

Come on man. He rarely got mentioned here and just because suddenly someone throws a shitload of money on him he doesn't suddenly become the "hottest teenager in the world". He wasn't even near that, and you know it. Before this move he was, regarding popularity and recognition, on the same level as someone like Embolo or Timo Werner. There was no bidding war this summer, some clubs like Tottenham were sniffing around (Barca and Chelsea? When?) and now on the last day someone throw cash at him.

He didn't even have a thread on this forum before today.
He's a massive gamble, you can afford the gamble, but don't try to persuade yourself he is like a young Cristiano and you wanted him all summer.

I wish I knew more about the lad, I don't know whether to be happy or annoyed or what. Either way he's young so he either serves the club for years or recoups some kind of reasonable resale value.

Portuguese Abola says the deal is being intermediated by Mendes.

Haha... and how about Depay? At least he had won something in Holland! He must be feeling kind of 2nd rated now.

Step forward Raheem Sterling.
He's a year older :p should've specified though. Obviously sterling is ahead right now. But so long as martial has a good impact, I won't care about the price just as city fans don't care about the price for sterling as he improves the team.

Does he mainly play on the left? If yes, does this mean that Depay will move to second striker again with Januzaj gone?

I think Martial will play 2nd striker instead. He can play number of positions from what i've read.

Darmian and Basti didn't have a thread either before the transfer window, what does that mean? We create threads when we get linked with someone.

He's highly rated in France, their next hot property and just called up to the French squad. There were reports of Barca and Chelsea being interested, not my fault you missed the reports.

This. We like to hype up our players.
Januzaj is the next Giggs! Depay is the next CR7! Martial is the next Henry! Pereira is the next Beckham!
They are all very good players, but you never know how close they'll get to world class, if at all. Martial is a promising young French striker who we are buying for an insane amount on deadline day. Doesn't make him Zlatan.

Schweinsteiger had a shitload of threads on this forum over the years, the first one in which someone is asking if United should go for him dates back to 2008.

Darmian, yes, very nice, but he wasn't really a dream target of this window was he? He's a good signing, but no world beater before either and was relativly unknown.
Only thing ist, Martial was even more unknown.

I have no idea who this guy is. Literally hadn't heard of him before today....

Gone are the heady days of my youth where I watched so much football and played so much Football Manager (and Champ Man before that) that I basically knew every player in Europe's strengths and weaknesses. There was a time when I could have rattled through Bordeaux's reserve teams telling people they had 20 pace or something....

But ignorance is bliss. Because I don't know who he is I'm going to assume he will be the next Ronaldo (fat one) until proven otherwise. WHAT A BUY LADS!!!!

Are you seriously basing him not being a good signing on whether he had a thread on Redcafe before last Thursday?

Stop being so pathetic. Not liking LVG is one thing, but this deal collapsing hurts United more than him. Almost everyone is pissed with him but no one wants him to fail so United does well.

Let's see after we've sold Hernandez, loaned out Januzaj and probably Wilson. The only no.9 left is Rooney, and Felliani (oh well). So I expect he will fight for the no.9 position instead of wingers

There is a real dearth of quality talent available, and a shit load of money circling around the top clubs.

Reality is prices are extremely high and are not going to come down for the forseeable future.

We are still paying the price for under investment from 2009-13 - a time when Fergie said there was ''no value'' in the market. In hindsight, prices were ridiculously good value then.

No? But "the hottest teenager in the world", as VanGaalEra called him, is just a ridicoulus statement when someone is talking about him. He's a very promising talent, nothing more, nothing less, like many others out there.

Well City will be expecting the same from a similarly aged player in Raheem Sterling.

Sterling is a really special talent and he had 2 seasons starting for Liverpool under his belt. Martial is also coming to a new country so it will be much more difficult for him. If he comes in and sets the league on fire it would be great, but he's just a kid coming to a new league having to play with immense pressure because of the inflated price we have signed him for.

Just as an example Jackson Martines got signed from Porto to Atletico Madrid for 35M and he will provide them with many goals I have no doubt about that. That is money well spent and Jackson in United for example I feel would be there goal scorer but once again these are just assumptions and opinions at this point.

Its hard to believe he's going to be as useful as Lacazette would be and the fee sounds huge. A few mins of vids and he looks like a stronger/balanced Welbeck

oh yes, wouldn't that be just terrific, if it all goes sh!T for us.

just to teach our manager a lesson eh

you absolute legend

You mean the Hachim Mastour that is loaned to Malaga for two years with an option to buy for 5m?
That one exactly I was pretty shocked when I heard of that deal and can't really understand it but the talent the boy has is quite obvious for anyone to see in my opinion he just needs the right club. Malaga is not that club and I think it was the wrong choice for him but his quality on the ball is great huge talent nonetheless.
