What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

being in and around the first team squad - all the games he started last year. We have just dropped 50 million on someone to take his squad place in my opinion.
If Hernandez leaves, Wilson should be second choice for the No. 9 position. Which isn't where Martial is expected to play.

Flabbergasted. He doesn't worth that much.

He's cost us more than De Bruyne, Sterling cost City and Di Maria PSG. Look, I recall Ronaldo going for a world record fee for a teenager, but he was an exceptional talent. I hope he's an exceptional talented too.

80 million euros. Is this true?

He maybe the next big thing, but that is an awful lot of money to spend on potential.

I'm only speculating but I think that Lacazette+Fekir would have been cheaper than that in June.

Can he become one of the best strikers one day?

Big, big maybe after his first season. And it's not even a really outstanding first season, people like Rooney, Müller etc. had better ones. He scroed 9 out of 35 in Ligue 1.
He's promising of course. But not more than people like Embolo or Werner, which probably were available for less then half the money.

It's not my money, but FFS that's a lot of cash.

How is 60m euros more than De Bruyne or Sterling cost? Pretty sure De Bruyne was £55m and sterling was £49m.

He's hardly unknown, he played in two games against Arsenal in the Champions League and has been talked about as one of Europe's best youngsters for a while. I'm surprised by how many people have never even heard of him.

Judging by the reaction on this forum, I'd say he's very unknown.

Just because you've heard of him doesn't mean that should be the standard case! Loads of players play in the CL every season, you can't expect everyone to remember them all... also, (genuine question) where has he been talked about as one of Europe's best? Would be interested to see that... is it just French journo's or from all across Europe?

This can't be for real, 50m or more for another cnut I've never heard of?

Certainly feels like the transfer equivalent of a last gasp hoof up to Fellaini, but you should never be ashamed to reach for the stars.

What?!

LvG all but confirmed that we weren't in for Pedro. It was only the media who made up the narrative that Woody messed up the negotiations. And now the same media are doubting the narrative they made up. Ridiculous.

And people wonder why LvG dislike journos

I dunno when people will get that it can't be possibly about money. Either Pedro chose Chelsea or LVG wasn't interested. (not being interested is a bit weird but.)

Signing Fellaini was also the transfer equivalent of hoofing it to Fellaini.

Fellainception. Or something rubbish like that.

Sorry but you must know that is BS

Not sure who to blame but one of or both Woody and LVG fecked that deal up

Holy cow, 80m euro is fecking a lot for a kid. He better be the next Messi.
LvG and Ed has lost their minds. If he flop here, Glazers should sack them both.

You mean cost us less?

Side question for French speakers or anyone in the know: do you pronounce his name as we would in English (Mar-shull), like Mar-tee-al or a different way?

In before he inevitably has a few quiet games to start while he adapts and everyone goes mental and throws around Bellion comparisons.

Phonetically
Mar - sial

Fecking hell. That is a lot of money for a youngster. Never heard of him. Anyone who has seen him regularly? Plus is this a panic buy because this late in the window with no one else interested in him makes no sense otherwise.

Jebus, we are not signing him for €80m. One source says it might get that high with bonuses if he's a success.

so we are giving Januzaj on loan and buying similar quality for 35+ millions......fantastic.

He is not similar at all, Januzaj is more of a playmaking slow technical player, and Martial is explosive pacey winger.
