Anthony Martial

What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

Assuming he's to slot right in, I'm guessing it would be on the right side of attack where Mata has been playing?

So him and Memphis either side of Rooney?

I'm not usually one for getting involved in the price of players but feck me, if the fee is correct for an relatively unknown French kid who's played 'well' in the French league it's madness. We could have secured any number of targets for that amount. I was also under the impression he's a winger? Aren't we well stocked there? Didn't we apparently turn down Pedro because of that? Either way, this is largely desperate.

Not really, he's a number 9 that can play outwide.

I think we have half an eye on him being a long term Rooney replacement whilst he also currently can play Van Gaal's number 10 or out wide if needed.

I think this is a baffling transfer (is there any precedent of spending this much on someone so unknown?)... but hey, what do I know.

Crazy money! He's going to be under a lot of pressure to deliver straight away.

One season in the french league is a huge risk to base his potential off

But hey im on board because we need players in and he could turn out super
Well yeah that's the thing, I've heard he's very highly rated but I've personally never seen him play. I don't have a clue how good he is, and for that kind of money it's a big risk. However, he looks tall and strong so should do alright in the Prem assuming he settles in well!

I'm guessing he'd pretty much have to win the champions league, Ballon d'or, NBA MVP and Wimbledon for us to pay the add-ons.

No idea who the heck this guy is. But signing young, expensive, relatively unknown/unproven forwards is always sooooo exciting. More exciting than any other signing, for me.
Compete this biatch!

Why are people still saying it's 80 million euros? It doesn't make it any more true if you keep repeating it. It's 50 million with possible bonuses ffs.

Who's about to become one of the most expensive signings in United's history. He's surely more than a 'kid' with promise.

Well i don't know as i've never watched him but most who have seem to think he's still very raw, and even Ronaldo at this age was only used sparingly.

We didn't immediately build the team around him, this kid will need time also. I don't see him becoming our first choice striker any time soon.

£36m on a 19 year old? Great stuff. More of the same Woodward.

never going to happen...he won't put two players that young in the side at the same time.

80m euros have united gone crazy for an extra 5m we could have got Greizeman and for less we could have got icardi.

I'm sure there's a reason the best young player in Holland, after a breakout season and a good WC, will have cost half the price of a talented young player from the French league. Probably best not to pull at that thread. That way madness lies...

Have you watched him regularly? I find it odd the transfer sums that are mentioned. Carrasco went to Atletico for around 20m EUR and was very impressive in the CL last year. Is Martial higher rated than him?

Martial is better and was a lot better in CL. But the thing is all Monaco youngsters are exceptional, all of them. Last night they played with Bernardo Silva(21), Lemar(19), Martial(19) and El Shaarawy(22). They are all very talented.

No one talks about their players, but Bernardo Silva for example will leave for a lot of money and for a very big club.

Not what we need right now. Could of got Kane a proven PL goalscorer for this kind of money.

Perhaps he's the hottest young property in Europe. I honestly think he's going to become our best player ever.

50 Million € for this kid is just desperate, sorry. For that kind of money, there a few superior or equal, but even cheaper options around. Embolo for example, Timo Werner. If you would've offered Dortmund 50m € at the beginning of the summer they might have sold Aubameyang. For that kind of money, Götze would've probably yours. Even if you bid that TODAY you might have a chance. Cavani might have considered a move, too.

We'll be back for him next season...

Yep,, 50m euros is already mental, 50m pounds (whch is getting mentioned in the new reports) is the most absurd deal in the history of football.
Its not as absurd if you consider that we are struggling to sign players with pace who are already established. If we can't sign the likes of bale or muller then it makes sense to sign someone who has potential to reach that level. A lot of players are blessed with either pace or control, he has both of them and add some vision to that, he looks more set to be a hit than a miss. I think if we want to make it back to the elite level once again, we have to take such gamble. Vietto and Dybala and even lacazette are more unlikely to be very best than this kid. Sure, we are getting skinned by Monaco but its much better to sign a player at more cost and gamble rather than not sign and wonder as was the case in Hazard.

Big bucks for somebody who is less experienced than Januzaj.
