What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

Lots of negativity here, but as I stated earlier in the thread. I like the intention of signing young players, Martial is 19 years old and from what I hear very talented. He might work out or he might not, but if he works out he can be a star for 10+ years. Rather signing players like him than 27+ olds.

The 2 last seasons we have signed potential world class talents like Shaw, Memphis and now (most likely) Martial. This gives us great talents to continue build around for the future together with Januzaj, McNair (I got a good feeling for him) and others. I also feel we have signed some good players from lesser clubs like Schneiderlin, Darmian and Herrera. This is the kind of transfers I prefer, compared to the BFS (even though I liked that transfer at the price) and Di Maria. Some will not work out of course, but neither do superstars

It's 50m euros, not pounds. Still huge but none of the mentioned players would be available for that.
Yep,, 50m euros is already mental, 50m pounds (whch is getting mentioned in the new reports) is the most absurd deal in the history of football.

The price is absolutely crazy and surely we could've got him for healer if we did this a month ago, but since we know we're a bit of a mess in terms of transfers i'll ignore that. In a few years he'll be one of the best around IMO so I don't give a feck about the price.

Memphis, martial, januzaj, Pereira... 4 ridiculously promising players, all could become world class and very good at worst. The future is bright

Remember last year, we signed Di Maria and some people were like "this isn't United anymore, just spending on proven quality rather than investing in youth".

Now we spend big on a well regarded youngster, it's "feck sake, we could've got someone proven for that money rather than risking it on a teenager!"

Wow this is actually happening and that crazy ass fee is apparently real! Heres hoping he turns into the next Henry ...

Well, I guess we must really, really believe in him if we're paying that much for a 19 year old. There's backing your judgement and there's taking a massive gamble. This looks like the later, but still exciting.

Rooney's place will be in no more or less danger whether we sign this kid or not.

Not every player needs competition to perform, Rooney is just going through a really bad patch whether he comes through it or not will have little to do with us signing a 19yo kid from france who's played mostly on the wing in his career.

Who's about to become one of the most expensive signings in United's history. He's surely more than a 'kid' with promise.

It is a ridiculous price to spend on a teenager though (attacker).

Imagine if he would have a crazy season with Monaco and a good Euros. Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern would be all over him and we would ask ourselves why the hell didn't we get this guy.
Of course he could have had a crappy season but maybe it's a risk worth taking.

Apparently he's extremely talented but he's also got a very bad attitude according to what a few people are saying. How true is this?

He is a striker and can play left winger. He also could play on the right though.
Have you watched him regularly? I find it odd the transfer sums that are mentioned. Carrasco went to Atletico for around 20m EUR and was very impressive in the CL last year. Is Martial higher rated than him?

its a lot of money for a player who seems to have gone way under the radar... ive see moanco play a few times over last year or so... couldn't tell you if he's been on the pitch or not.

I'm not usually one for getting involved in the price of players but feck me, if the fee is correct for an relatively unknown French kid who's played 'well' in the French league it's madness. We could have secured any number of targets for that amount. I was also under the impression he's a winger? Aren't we well stocked there? Didn't we apparently turn down Pedro because of that? Either way, this is largely desperate.

It's like the old saying about not being able to please all of the people all of the time.

But in the case of many United fans you can't please them ever no matter what you do.

c£35m is about the going rate for a highly rated young forward. Perhaps slightly more expensive but only by about 5m or so.

One season in the french league is a huge risk to base his potential off

But hey im on board because we need players in and he could turn out super

You mean before after after we sell him to Real Madrid?

We need a guy to score us goals and win us games and we sign a 19yo for 80M€. I will be pleased if we sign him, but the pressure on this guy will be huge, maybe too much for a player so young.

For that money, unless he becomes the next Ronaldo he will pretty much be considered a flop. Also, imagine how much money will other clubs ask for their top players if we payed so much for this guy...

Its hard to comprehend on the money spent, hope everything comes good.60+20M:eek:
