What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

They are laughing at us. Why haven't we gone for Antoine Griezmann. Absolute madness.

It could be as obvious as Griezmann doesn't want to play for us. Or Athletico won't sell (Release clause can be tricky as you know), etc. I understand the unhappiness around what seems to be a bit of a desperation though.

We sold Hernandez, we bought Martial?
We should have got a striker, that's true, but believe me LVG will play DDG if he stays.
Certainly hope so as we desperately need him in goal, if he leaves we need Navas included in the deal and I would even accept a straight swap being this late in the window.

End of the day this is what happens when you look to add so late in the window. Let's take price out of this though, does he improve our team? Yes I personally think he does.

What about if we signed Martial and Felipe Anderson? Would people honestly be really disappointed at that? Because I wouldn't. They are exciting players. Is it what we want? No of course it's not but it's an improvement.

Listen, if you wait till deadline day and everyone knows you're DESPERATE for a striker, you're gonna get seriously FLEECED whoever you buy. Simple economics.

But I never said that or implied that at all..but rather the relationship between the two may be negatively affected, which is not the best thing for the club with regards to the manager and his best player.
That's all true but if he stays he should play and with Euros next year he should commit 100 percent. I hope neither of them will be an arse about the whole thing.

Fellaini, anyone:smirk:

Too late in the game for Griezmann. Paperwork alone would need at least 24 hours to clear Spanish authorities not to mention Madrid bringing out a red carpet and Griezmann instantly meeting with us and agreeing an offer. But yes, Griezmann would have been the ideal over 20 goal a season striker.

So what had Woodward done wrong? If Van Gaal says he wants Muller. What should Woodward say? Oh people on redcafe think Griezmann is a more realistic option Mr Van Gaal.

Only thing Woodward should be criticised for is transfer fees. Even that, I am not bothered about as it's not our money.

Van Gaal identifies the players. Just like Moyes wanted Fabregas and Bale. Refused to sign anybody as he wasn't sure. He could have got Strootman and Thiago in that summer.
I never said Woodward had done something wrong. I am just saying that people were blaming Woodward a lot even back then when Moyes was in charge instead of focusing all the blame on Moyes.

Bloody hell... Why no one laugh at Chelsea for bidding over £30m for an unproven defender?? Media need to really got off our balls.

So the Spanish window closes at midnight. Does that mean after that time no team can buy a player for Spain?

So in essence we don't have until tomorrow because a lot of the major countries have a deadline of today?

Thats the hope, and for our sakes we should hope that they can be proffessional..but human beings are so complex..lets hope they sit down and iron out their issues, because its us who would suffer at the end of the day.

Yup just dust it out for the sake of the club. If he's staying for the season we need our wc keeper between the sticks. It's simple or it should be simple.

We can still buy from Spain tomorrow just not sell to those clubs.

50 million for a guy with 13 goals and 1 season as a starter. That must be a record or something. At a least Sterling was more than proven and English.

So my Question's are.........
Will he walk straight into our starting XI?
Will he settle into our league straightaway?
Will he make us better?
And is he world class striker as LVG mentioned in his interviews that only a world class players would be brought in?

To be absolutely pedantic, we can sell if we want, they just won't be able to register the player. Like Barcelona with Arda Turan (though for a different reason, of course).

Rooney scored 9 in 40 games before moving for the record fee for teenager.

I totally love the player and can exaggerate a bit, but next season United will have no chance to sign him, Chelsea, City, Barcelona, Bayern, Real Madrid will all be after him.
Alright if he's that talented I'm hoping we get this guy whatever the price.

Is Sterling that much more proven?

Right OK that's better then... Was going to say because it would then basically mean Mane would be our only choice. Now I'm not completely against him but his price would sky rocket.

Says the manager who bought Rojo

Answered.

To be fair if we consider the fact that he was playing on the wing a lot last season (apparently) then his record is pretty decent. If people felt Kane was a £100m player then £35m for Martial could probably be a huge, huge bargain.

It does have a feeling of a panic buy. I don't care about prices that much though and he looks like he could possibly everything that we need in the future. My fear is that he will be behind Rooney anyway and will not progress much.

No.
Impossible to be 100% sure but since he's very young, it's likely he'll struggle at first.
In the long term, without a doubt.
No, otherwise that was incredibly stupid from LVG.

But 50m is too much and he should stay where he is. United should have come earlier for him and he would have left for 30m-35m at best.

If we're offering the sums being mooted here then Van Gaal and whoever else is involved in decision making must agree. If they genuinely think Martial is worth 50M then we should pull the trigger.

Even if Rooney plays well this year it's basically inconceivable that he'll still be quick enough to be our starting #9 by 17-18, right? That's a key position and we only really have James Wilson as a potential starter there and who knows how that will go.

I like to see us take risks on 18-21 year olds that we think can be great. You won't get them all right, even at this high cost, but on the whole it's a logical strategy that looks toward the future and I think it's generally the right move to spend big on potential greats and have them backed up by our top prospects. Zidanes and Pavones only failed because Madrid couldn't produce good Pavones in their academy or find replacements for those squad players in the transfer market.

I know I shouldn't be surprised anymore, but the idea of paying £44million for a 19 year old I'd never heard until last night is staggering.

It's over my head all this ! Why wait till 48hours till window closes to sign this guy . Could we not have signed him in July ? Smacks of panic buying to me
Panic buys don't really exist. You just can't agree a deal with player, the club, file proof of funds, medical and all the other paperwork within 24 hrs unless groundwork had already been completed.
