What do think of the (supposedly) imminent signing of Anthony Martial?

Absolutely not ! He's not considered at all in France. He's been called with the A because Lacazette is injured, because Gignac is in Mexico

Rooney exploded at Euro 2004 with his national team before and even played a season with Everton.

Martial played 2 seasons at Monaco, and is only a starter since last January....

36M£ for 6 good months `????

Sold Di Maria for 63Meuros and buy Martial for 55M euros

That's great

Martial has performed in the CL which Rooney had not done before joining us.

If only we had the experts and knowledgeable people on caf running United. Alas, we have idiots like Van Gaal and Woodward in charge who know nothing about their respective fields...

We won the league but it's not like everything was rozy back then regarding our transfers. That's all I'm saying.

Of course it was not rosy, we did not have a mid field. I know this is dragging along so will end it after this post. All i have said it that this deal doesn't seem to fill me with confidence and it looks very amateurish to be sorting out the forward line on the last day of the window by just throwing money at a 19 year old unproven guy.

I hope i am wrong completely, United get someone who does a great job and i will be happy.

With the numbers flying around changing every 2 minutes, i think its safe to assume that as usual, the press have absolutely no clue and are throwing around random numbers.

People need to stop judging the state of our club every time a bored journalist decides to make something up.

That fee would be ridiculous. Everyone on here ridiculed the Sterling fee, who's a much more proven player.

But is it true that thee version you choose to believe may not be the right version? And just from what has happened, isnt it reasonable to believe that LVG and DDG'S relationship will likely be affected?
I may ask you the same question?

Let's be honest.

I'd be pissing myself if Brenton paid £40m or whatever for Martial.

I'm not really bothered though about the fee. I just don't think this sort of signing is going to improve us currently. We need someone who walks in our starting 11 and can score goals now. Not in the future.

Bit of headless chicken stuff from United now. We're not signing him if we have to give up Rojo as we've no defensive cover because we never brought in one like we should have. Reckon this one will end in failure too.

Why the need to make up a straw man argument that no one has made , and then knock that? To question the decision making of someone doesnt necessarily mean that the CAF will make better decisions..it simply means that we expect people with as much experience as they do to at least do better..we dont compare them to us, but their peers in the rest of the market

Honestly that is just a weak way of arguing, and doesn't really justify why any of the criticism is not justified.

We are becoming a joke of a club and it's sad and pathetic to see United fall to so low. It's understandable if some saga starts from summer and carries on till the last day of the window. But random new names you have never heard of just shows that the club haven't done their homework and are in a panic mode. Neville put it across perfectly, that teams who are doing business today are not really well run.

What a load of shite.

We are a joke because the press aren't aware about the deals we are working on and you haven't heard of Martial?

You argue for this transfer without the appeal to authority nonsense.

??
I have already said that this transfer looks like a backup plan at best and we should have initiated bit earlier as our plan A targets were impossible to get. That said, I would rather believe Van Gaal who says that no signing will be a panic buy without any scouting. It is funny when people go about acting smart arse sitting in front of laptop and posting whatever they want while having faintest of idea what is actually going on behind the scenes.

I just don't really understand the timing of this move. A month or so ago, it on the surface looks like a completely different and more logical move. But now, we need instant impact, this isn't the sort of deal to provide that.

But Im not taking a stance on either article..I am saying that considering the facts that LVG has said that DDG has refused to play, and considering that DDG has vehemently denied it, this from a objective viewpoint, would be seen as something that could affect their relationship.
DDG didn't deny it. All we heard is supposedly 'his camp' strongly denied it. It's the same as we heard that he expects to be nr. 1 if he stays.

No, we are becoming a laughing stock because we leave it at the last moment and throw money on some unproven 19 year old. We are becoming a laughing stock because of the way we have handled the goal keeper situation, because of the way LVG handles the press, because of the way we have played this season in the league with a forward line with a player who is over paid and doesn't even have a first touch.

Hernandez was supposed to be the backup striker, and now he is gone on the last day of the window. We dither for pedro and pull back saying we were never interested. You cannot argue that things could not have been handled better. It's frustrating that everyone was saying we need a decent striker and now on the last day we scamper to get a deal done.Just poor management. That's what is embarrassing.

Hey, if he turns out to be a great signing, i will hold my hands up for being a cribbing arsehole arm chair supporter.

You are just being pedantic, do you really think he would refuse to play then expect to be no. 1 just a few weeks later though? For a player, that would tarnish his professional status, he did deny it..and the main issue I have brought up, you have ignored..not about DDG expecting to be no. 1 here , but rather the fact that the comments will affect their relationship, would it not be reasonable to expect that it would for the above mentioned reasons?

I'm confused by this one really, if we've had strong interest in him all along, why didn't we go for him when Spurs were linked with him? I was worried when Spurs were apparently in for him at the beginning of the summer and the few was around €20m iirc, that fee wasn't probably enough for Monaco to accept though. Over this summer he's signed a new contract, so why didn't we go in for him before he did, try and turn his head and get him for cheaper? Although I think he'll be a great player in the future, he's at the exact same stage of his career as Wilson and he's nowhere to be seen this season.

So you expect LVG won't play DDG if he stays or he'll play him but DDG will be shite on purpose?

Probably Woody thought he could get Muller, Cavani, Benzema etc and now that we have failed in our top targets we are going for a raw 19 yr old kid.

Why does everyone keep saying this?

Van Gaal chooses the targets not Woodward. Blame him for sending Woodward on a wild goose chase. People were happy to blame Moyes.

Of course we have, we have Phil Jones and Paddy McNair. That's plenty

€70m-€80m for Martial? We'll be mugs to even contemplate paying that, we can sign Griezmann for that amount, and move for someone like Zlatan on loan.

This seemed to have started at 40m yesterday, now people talking about 70m, at the rate this is increasing he's gonna be a world record signing. We'd have been cheaper getting Bale :-)

You are terribly wrong if you think people were only blaming Moyes. There is a reason why everyone is talking about Woodward now. I see a lot of people blaming LVG on what was happening thus far, which is about the same as what happened to Moyes back then.

As several have pointed out, we would be stupid to pay the amounts that are being mentioned for a relative unknown 19 year old.We are being held for ransom and would be stupid to take such a big gamble.

So what had Woodward done wrong? If Van Gaal says he wants Muller. What should Woodward say? Oh people on redcafe think Griezmann is a more realistic option Mr Van Gaal.

Only thing Woodward should be criticised for is transfer fees. Even that, I am not bothered about as it's not our money.

Van Gaal identifies the players. Just like Moyes wanted Fabregas and Bale. Refused to sign anybody as he wasn't sure. He could have got Strootman and Thiago in that summer.

How are we being held to ransom? We are prepared to pay the asking price, we could have gone for other targets. We steadfastly refuse to cave in to Real Madrid's demands for DDG.....I could go on.

No, the responsibility lies with us

I think some journos are taking the piss at our expense. The numbers quoted and / or the loss of a CB, having just sold Evans, is totally ridiculous. If Monaco were seriously holding out for what has been reported, United would have walked away by now.

It's a bold strategy selling Falco, RVP and Hernandez and then shopping for a striker with less than 2 days left when everyone knows we only have Rooney. Maybe next year we could try doing things the opposite way round.
