Well, depends.
Anderson had a jarring car accident that he himself admits dented his rise to the top.
His mentality shifted away from football.
I suppose the club and Ferguson thought this was a case where we had to be more lenient.

What's Martial's excuse?
Cheating on his wife?

I recall that he was a good guy to have around the squad. I'm sure everyone likes Tony, too.

Ole can very well freeze the player if he thinks that is what needs to be done. Lingard kept playing and playing and then vanished.
But I am pretty sure there will be pressure on Ole to not completely freeze players on such high salaries.

Oh yeah you are spot on that the money men will have their say on certain players

It’s just the lack of effort. His attributes are fine. he’s too similar to Rashford and that partnership needs to be broken up but he’s still a good player and he no doubt will get a very good club if he moves. They will gamble on getting him fired up and back to last seasons form and it’s not an unreasonable gamble at all. He just doesn’t look interested here anymore though. He looks lost. Honestly James would be offering more these days.

You can imagine how infuriating this must've been for Mourinho. Jose bears a lot of blame for his time at United, but I think he's been somewhat vindicated when it comes to his stance on Martial.

I’m not a fan of Jose Mourinho, but his assessment of Martial was correct.

Mourinho might have a leg to stand on if he based his criticism and line-ups on performance. Multiple times Martial was performing better than the people he was competing with yet he was the one being dropped. If Mourinho had given him a proper chance and he failed then so be it, but that wasn't the case.

Him and Jose were never going to get on because he just doesn't have the workrate required

Need Haaland or Kane. Someone much more clinical. Martial is good on his day but not consistent enough.
Let's be honest Martial is not even a fifth as good as those two. We absolutely need a top level striker to take us forward.

I can't stand another season of every game hoping Martial can be bothered to run.

Kane looks to have a serious weakness in his ankles looking at tonight and Erling going nowhere until 2022, in regards to Tony he needs to be minimum dropped for a few games but ideally left out completely on Sat

Yeah last night convinced me how badly we need a younger top level striker to take pressure off Eddy

Yeah it’s needed regardless as Cavani isn’t a long term solution.

Also I come back to the fact that I don’t want any player at the club who doesn’t want to run his guts out and show desire - as the minimum!

Watching that video of him losing the ball and just watching Bruno chase the opposition player all the way back to our box makes me sick, he wouldn’t want to be my teammate if I were in Bruno’s shoes, he deserved his arse handed to him after that showing.

Yeah showing desire and workrate should be an absolute minimum for any player at the club but clearly that message hasn't got through to Tony for most of the time he has been here. I think a striker this summer could have been a possibility if we didn't have three other problems in the first XI at CB (LEADER), CDM & RW and we both know how tight this board is

Yeah, each of those positions including an additional striker are becoming more and more important and I can’t really pick which one is the most important.

On one hand signing somebody like Haaland would mean we would have likely converted most of the dozens of chances Martial and others have wasted and likely would be still in first position this season.

On the other hand CDM and CB both look desperately in need of upgrades. I’ve said for over a year that a top DM would have the biggest single impact for the squad (imo.) - it’s a position that improves the players behind and in front of it.

Ironically you could argue the RW position we have all longed for fixing has become the least urgent.

Yeah IF Diallo is actually given a proper chance on that RW and does well then we definitely have something to think about in regards to that position but could really do with a starter to take the pressure off him anyway. Like I said in my earlier post we don't just need a CB but one who possesses true leadership and organisation skills (Dias at City for eg), quite frankly the DM position is ridiculous because I am convinced Ole thinks Fred & Scott are the answer when we need only one in there holding not TWO to look more fluid. Finally to the ST position which like you say could really do with a goal machine like Haaland but no way does he move this summer, so do we wait it out for a year and join the race or look elsewhere and try and move Tony on at the end of the season too.

We don’t want to derail this thread but a moan about Jose’s overall shithousery is appropriate. Jose brought in Sanchez, which was a colossally stupid decision and had a negative impact on Martial, whom we already knew by then was mentally weak. The man shattered the boy, and apart from a brief purple patch last spring, has never come anywhere close to reaching his potential.

I’d like to see Greenwood given a run of games, with Bruno and VdB feeding him.

Martial can watch from the bench.

Seems like it getting to the stage where Ole may have given Martial enough rope to hang himself by now...

Still an important few months of the season left and we could do with Tony making some valuable contributions which he is still capable of doing. Test of his character coming up and also a test of Ole's man management skills - almost starting to resemble the Pogba situation in a sense so hopefully Tony knuckles down like Paul did and manages to be a bit useful for the rest of the season.

I'm reluctant to completely write him off but I think by the summer Ole will have decided he probably isn't a long term Man Utd player at the level we're aspiring to and start to phase him out..

Just don't see how Donny breaks into this team ahead of Pogba or McFred

Good point. If we start a new winning streak Ole would be right to keep icing Donny on the bench, but if we keep struggling for goals we may need to give Bruno an additional playmaking midfielder...McFred are not that.

Greenwood/ Cavani

Rashford Bruno Diallo/Mata

Get it done Ole !

Just to state the obvious I want Martial gone

How he needs to be dropped completely on Sat and then ideally moved on in the summer but finding a taker for him looks unlikely on his pretty poor showing which started with the red card against Spurs

The problem with Jose and Martial was pretty straight forward. Jose has this philosophy of defending as a team. This means every attacker is supposed to literally show it on the field that they will stop any kind of attacks whatever is possible. Martial was entirely opposite to that. While he did well in attack, he did not bother to waste his energy to track back and put in a shift in defending. He has this not my job attitude towards it.

That is so opposite to what Jose likes. On the other hand Rashford did all that, and hence made the team almost every game.

Yeah that not my job attitude is exactly why he shouldn't be in the squad on Saturday but he will be

Donny is competing with Pogba and Bruno in attack. When it comes to defensive midfield, Donny is behind Mc-Fred in the picking order.

Quite honestly this season should be the last of this McFred thing and Ole needs to accept he simply has to bring in a proper CDM during the summer to do the job that currently we have these two doing, believe me we would then look better in midfield particularly the big six games where we sit far too deep.

Simply can't be picked against a team sitting deep as a 9 and for even one minute at any circumstance LW. Ole still thinks, like many do here, that he can contribute at LW, but he's too heavy/bulked or something because he hasn't beaten a man in months.

Give him minutes when Cavani needs a rest, and for me the 3rd spot behind Rashford and Cavani in the front 3 is a massive free for all between Greeenwod, Pogba, Martial, James and Diallo, probably in that order, since I'd rather see Pogba wide and McFred or one of them and VDB behind Bruno than Martial out there at the moment.

Looked like a foosball player against Sheffield.

Attitude is poor.
His involvement in games is also poor.
Always asks for the ball in his feet.
Never pass the ball to the left back
He's fast, but not lightning fast like Rashford.
He's not exceptionally good technically.
Poor with the header.
Can shoot unless when he curves the ball.
Left foot is poor.
Except for last year, he never really improved since LVG.

I would let him go if it's having Sancho or Grealish right now

I wonder who we could get to replace him. Haaland or kane seen unlikely this summer. Danny ings could be a decent if not top class replacement in the short term, given his contract is running down

Always wanted Diego Costa in a United shirt.
Offers something different to what we have.
We need a bit of a barstard up front who wants to fight for the team. Maybe literally haha but at least hed show more fight than this Martial character.

New Athletic article by Laurie Whitwell. "Bystander Martial needs to learn from Cavani’s vigour"

Cavani turns 34 on February 14 but Solskjaer took pride in his ability to cover almost 12 kilometres per game. United’s manager said Cavani brings work rate and humility each day at training and argued his experience-infused attitude provides a “lesson to every single one of us”.

Yeah, this is just false. He was really good at tracking back for Mourinho.

Don't worry Anto you will be in the matchday squad tomorrow despite what the fans feel about that god awful showing against Sheffield on Wednesday

I will question Ole's decision making if he starts Martial after that. Surely you cannot trust him to fight, which is exactly what the manager wants so considering that, he should be left out of the team.

I would rather see Dan James in the team over Martial tomorrow. You cannot stink the place out like he did and expect to play another minute.
