I just find it somewhat amusing that there's no boundaries to how people will describe Martial for his half arsed attempt at Sheffields second goal, yet compare it with what Rashford did in the above clip and the response that gets...Weird
Rashford was extremely lazy yesterday. Perhaps uncharacteristically so but there’s no excuse for it. We were overrun by a shite SHU team and couldn’t produce anything at all. Worst performance in years.

I don't think Rashford was worse. He had a few nifty runs (the one where he drew a yellow card comes to mind.) Rashford was shite on the whole (and that play where he just stands there as the Sheffield player waltzed towards our box was ridiculous), but Martial was a whole new level of shite.
Martial at least had a chance or two that he might’ve scored last season. Rashford looked lost, lazy, uncompetitive. It highlighted that a lot of Rashford’s contribution comes from his work rate and when it’s not there he’s half the player.

Ver interesting.

The abuse is not because of the low numbers, it's his attitude and mentality that bothers me. This was the season he should have gone to the next level, instead he is back to his old inconsistent self.

If you watch the games rather than stats only you would know why.

Bobby Firminho is under alot of criticism from Liverpool fans at the moment.

Martial is playing up top and stinking out the place with his attitude and lack of effort, the same cannot be said about the others. They are still putting in tackles, pressing the ball and have decent all round play. Martial has done nothing of note this season.

I am sorry but there is nothing to defend Martial with anymore.

Rashford also had a decent chance that went just wide. Again, I think he was way below par, but Martial was absolutely useless (although of course it could be argued that he had a legitimate goal ruled out...)

Not really. Whatever twit made that infographic obviously doesn't know any Liverpool or Arsenal fans. Liverpool fans have been extremely critical of Firminho. Arsenal fans have given the absolute height of abuse to all of their forwards. Lacazette and Pepe especially.

And Martial has been worse than all of the above this season. Output is one thing but refusing to work for your team, not putting in any off the ball work at all... certainly not criticisms you could ever level at Firminho or Mane.

Would soon be on the bench with teams who don't accept their forwards just walking around and rightfully so

He doesn't. I think people place his ability higher than what it actually is. He is no Thierry Henry talent "with a shitty attitude". We think all our players automatically have world class talent but very few players actually do.
I agree. Talent is far more than dribbling. Football is a team sport, not some individual dribbling contest. Even in that regard, I'm sure cutting from the left alone wouldn't put him near the top dribblers. Honestly, what makes him better than Zaha?

Pretty much agree with this, although in this moment, I wouldn't be sad to see him sold in the last few days of the January window.
He is 25.....should be more than flashes. 6 years at a top club....6 years. He's a sign of how far our standards dropped. Imagine Fergie being blocked and sacked eventually because David Bellion showed flashes of talent.

Fairly certain Aubameyang and Firmino has been getting shite thrown at them all season. Firmino's been getting it for years
All of whom have shown brilliance prior. Martial on the other hand....

You may have forgotten about Anderson.

Anderson didn't start the majority of our games. Fergie preferred to even use Giggs with Carrick at times instead of Anderson.

7 years at a top club, so to claim out standards have fallen may be an exaggeration. Yes Anto has more appearances but persisting with under-performing players is nothing new here.

Anderson spent 7 years in rotation, of which he was poor for about the last 3. He consistently had Carrick, Fletcher, Scholes and Giggs at different points ahead of him. He cost us relatively low in wages and did not demand to start games or sulk when he didn't get what he wanted. That's very different to Martial.

Sure, but persisting with under performing players being some kind of new low for the club is the point I took issue with. It's nothing new here.

Also, there is no way Anderson was good for four years. One, perhaps two. The rest were terrible. I don't know what happened there but it was disappointing, much like Martial's career here as well. Lots of promise early on and then nothing.

Got his precious no9 back and now probably sulking because we signed Cavani.

sulking spoilt child. Get rid. I’m sure somebody will be silly enough to take him.

Turns out Mourinho was right to try and get rid in hindsight, of course all of us (myself included) crucified him for attempting to sell.

I've fully lost my patience with him now. Last season offered me hope that he'd finally kick off with us as a productive goal scorer, but alas he's gone two steps back again. We won't be challenging for any major honours with both him and Rashford leading our attack, and of the two I'd keep Rashford for his work rate, send Martial to Conte/Poch/Whoeever will take him, and bring in a proven goalscorer.

Yeah I have totally lost all patience with him too and would love Ole to make a huge statement by leaving him at home on Sat and taking Amad instead but he won't do that so complete waste of time even suggesting it. He could well be on the bench but knowing Ole he will still cry out for him second half when we are chasing the game

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know where to find running stats for players? Like distance covered per 90 etc. I can't seem to find any websites that have this data. I wonder if @Adnan or @Raees know.

Would love to see running data around Martial.

Use FBref.

Maybe he is sad because we signed Cavani.
Like he was sad when his LW position was stolen from him that year
Like he was sad when #9 kit number was taken away from him the other year

He should be thrilled we have Cavani. He should be busting a gut to show he can pair up with him well. It’s there for the taking but instead he’s sulking. Weak mentality. Not fighting for the shirt. 250k a week to sulk like a little bitch every time something doesn’t go his way.

We are simply not going to be winning league titles with Martial as our main striker. We need to either give Mason a chance playing centrally (when Cavani doesn't play) or go and get someone like Haaland.
Martial's attitude last night was appalling. I get the sense that he's not really that bothered when we lose.

He's contracted until 2024... It'll be very hard to sell him, as i don't think any club will be willing to match his salary.. But in a ideal scenario, we sell him this summer and buy Sancho. Greenwood would take his place as CF alongside Cavani. In 2022 we try to bring Haaland.

Greenwood is currently a worse CF than Martial so we would be weakening

Have a winning mentality Martial does not. Very weak he is. Transferred he should be.

The talent is in there somewhere but his attitude and mentality isn’t that of a player that can carry the responsibility on his back at a club like United. If we’re to go to the next level as a club we need a big upgrade.

His link up play is far better than Martials.
There is no way you can seriously and confidently believe that. There isn’t a shred of evidence to back it up.

Should Martial be dropped absolutely but don’t make stuff up.

Well, depends.
Anderson had a jarring car accident that he himself admits dented his rise to the top.
His mentality shifted away from football.
I suppose the club and Ferguson thought this was a case where we had to be more lenient.

What's Martial's excuse?
Cheating on his wife?

He should definitely be dropped completely on Sat but we know Ole hasn't got the balls, what is clear as day is that he doesn't cope well with competition in his place at all whether it be Sanchez or now Cavani. I am sick to the back teeth of his sulking when he should be working his ass off to prove he should be first choice but can't be bothered.

Ole can very well freeze the player if he thinks that is what needs to be done. Lingard kept playing and playing and then vanished.
But I am pretty sure there will be pressure on Ole to not completely freeze players on such high salaries.
