He's less lax than before which was my biggest piece of criticism. Hopefully, he can keep building his confidence levels and push forward.

I'm pleased with the improvement he's making.

It's easy to be forgotten during the whirlwind of a match but his output was through the roof today considering how awful we looked and the non-existent service throughout.

He was through on goal early on but was hacked to the ground by the last man Cahill. That was a very cynical foul and deserving of a red card. Just a yellow card and free-kick bafflingly.
He then turned a nothing pass into a one on one again with a lovely piece of skill but was manhandled to the ground by Kelly inside the box. Nothing awarded.
Assisted McTominay for his penalty.
Assisted James for his goal.

He was extremely hard done by to not get a goal today. He was let down completely by the referee and the blind bats in the Var room.

His attitude and work-rate was really good and his touches were sharp as usual. The ball stuck to him like glue up there. If he keeps this form up, he'll be banging them in very soon.

MOTM for me, he got an assist, should have gotten a penalty from his own piece of quality play and should have gotten Cahill sent off as I think he bags had he not been pulled back, his touch and hold-up play were good and he's more assertive and agressive in his attitude, I liked how he ran and got the ball for Rashford to take the pen, taking the situation on so there was no debate.
Yup agree with all this

Martial is looking great up front

its a shame he has such shite behind him

He has 5 out of 6 scoring record from Penalties for us. He was 2nd on line behind Pogba on the duty last season but weirdly seems to be relegated and no where in discussion this season. Ole should stop feeding the ego of Pogba and Rashford and let this guy take them.

How beautiful is it to have a center forward as skillful as this? And by skillful I mean a consistent first touch

Today was the first penalty Rashford has missed...

The best player considering 3 games combined. He's the best penalty taker in the club also. Rash concentrates on power too much.

Sensational today. MotM for me.

At the heart of everything good, really hope the injury doesn't ruin his form

Had a good game. Was involved in pretty much everything good we did. If Pogba plays further up we will see a even better Martial as the understanding he has with Pogba is really good.
Pray and hope the injury isn't serious as we really need him to be our number 9.

Some of his touches and turns yesterday were world class. Can't wait to see him with Gomes, I think they'd form a very aesthetically pleasing partnership.

He was okay, he just doesn't have the presence of a proper centre forward yet for me, but then we don't really have anyone that does.
He does have the presence, he is just isolated. This proper center forward critic is so exhausting. Imagine any forward playing in a team with 2 midfield anchors and a nonexistent playmaker? He has no support and yet still finds a way to influence the game.

?? Why exactly? He had a big role and created plenty for himself today. Didn't get on the end of any big chances, though I guess 2 of them would've been clear cut chances if he didn't get clearly fouled for both (only for the ref and VAR to shockingly ignore both). The service into him wasn't bad today, nor was his performance. Absolutely nothing to suggest that. Chances were there just like they were there vs Wolves last week. Sometimes players just don't take them.
The difference is he had 2 chances as you say while other strikers at top 6 clubs have a minimum of 5. The notion that he has to take them all the time is ridiculous and unrealistic. Him already being the most clinical striker with less shots taken compared to other should tell you that it is impossible to feed off 2 chances per game. He needs more support in attack so he doesn't drift out of games like most suggest.

Some people are acting as if Strikers without services just bangs them goals in or something. If anything Martial is the type of forward we need. A striker who despite no services still manages to be dangerous and create several dangerous situations on his own.

We have a striker who can do almost everything an attacker should do. He can score goals, very clinical, can create for himself as well for teammates, can drop deep, hold up play, bring in others into play etc. That's what you want from you striker, not just a targetman or pure old fashioned striker who is only there for goals and nothing else.

Once we sort out our service supply(somehow) and he start getting fed that he'll bang even more goals. Though in the meantime even without much services he can still fashion chances for himself and that's what you want from a modern striker.

Today you put in an old fashion pure striker in there and they come out of the game having done nothing at all considering the lack of services. Whereas type of striker like Martial despite lack of services managed to create chances and dangerous situations with his own skills.

How long will he be out for?

This is what I feared when the window closed without us adding to the attack.

Any injury leaves us thin.

Still waiting for news. Though Ole mentioned that both his and Shaw's injuries shouldn't be that bad and he somehow expect them to train this week. So let's see.

Credit where it’s due, didn’t think he had the movement to play here but it’s clear he’s more motivated to play centrally.

Would be frightening in a team that had better providers.

Look, I'm in the camp of he's been the only positive so far this season but I've still got a major gripe.

  1. He doesn't play like a striker, he doesn't have the movement in the box to be a striker and he hasn't got a strikers instinct.
  2. He's clearly been moved to the striker's position because he's not given enough in the wing position.
Honestly, I believe he's only playing up top because were short in that position and they are trying to find a solution to his wasted ability. Personally for me if we had a proper striker on the field yesterday I feel we would have won, he doesn't think like a striker or move into the position a striker should.

Considering he was involved in every good thing we did yesterday, I need you to state the moments you feel a “proper” striker would have done better.

Your point 2 is wild, Rashford could just as easily be playing in the middle and no one would be that concerned. We are short at CF because Ole sold Lukaku, if he didnt want to sell him he would still be here.

Interesting post considering the first sentence in it.

Point being I think he's been our best player so far this season but I don't believe he's a striker.

We're shoe horning a winger into a strikers role to cover. It's a disaster.

I don't think that's the disaster, he's done fine with the little service he's got. The real disaster is that if he loses form then what's our alternative? Move another winger in there?

Signed as a striker... has performed well as a striker... has said himself his favourite position is as a striker... do you have anything to support that comment?

He is excellent with his back facing to the goal such a contrast to players like Lukaku that inspite of his size couldnt stop getting bullied off the ball and couldnt trap the ball. For a non physical playrr I find it very impressive how he uses his body to shield the ball every time the only way to stop him is by fouling basically. We will see a lot more defenders that try to get him injured this season, I hope he stays well.

shows the best of pogba and martial all in 1 clip. Our 2 most talented players.

It’s such a shame he got no protection from the ref, every time he turned they were all over him wrestling him. If our cb even breathe on their forwards it’s a foul.

Still can’t believe Cahill didn’t see red.
