Is Martial really a good fit for Lukaku?

He's more of a dribler and finisher than one who will cut down the line and throw it into Lukaku's head or feet.

I don't feel like we're playing to Lukaku's strenghs. Or not much to anyone's strength's really

Where did I say he has an equal chance vs Sanchez? I said in hindsight it was a stupid move buying Sanchez but, I can understand you missed that point. It's hard to concentrate when FIFA 19 is coming out and you're having a wank...

You're right though, I do expect more. I grew up with Kanchelskis, Giggs and Sharpe. He's not in their class IMO. Apologies for having standards

Well forget talking about Fifa & wanking

The problem is you are comparing wingers to a forward. Sterling would be better than Martial at LW - but he would still be as rubbish as those ex players because he isn't made to play out wide by the touch line to one day cross & deliver supply to a target man - he would struggle just as much as Martial.

That is only happening because of the manager - & the same would happen to sterling at LW as much as Martial because of Jose. Sterling is currently made to play as a forward - you see how he ends up at the back post to tap in goals every two seconds? You see how that's different to what Martial is doing now?

Martial is a forward mate - made to play in a forwards line in angles & channels - not a left winger - so comparing him to Giggs & Kanchelskis isn't going to be right.

Martial has the ability to be a very good player if he is made to play as a support striker either centrally or to the left - with other strikers on the other side of him.

If he is given that chance & fails then I have no faith in him - but expecting him to turn to giggs & Kanchelskis is not a good comparison to make.

He has to play more, simple as that. I am one of his biggest critics here but he produces goals/assists. He must get a run of games, how can we expect him to prove anything if he gets 20 mins every 3 matches? Sanchez is shocking, Rashford useless, Lingard being Lingard and this guy can never get to play 2 matches in a row. Poor management.

There's that flair you've been wanting, @Raoul

MARTIAL used CHARGE.

It's super effective!

Two opponents are downed.
:D

Don't agree with any of this, i don't think that a good (which is generous) performance against Young Boys warrants a start in the league, its a completely different game.

He's had ample chances and hasn't performed. He's weak mentally, you can see it the way he always comes short for the ball and never gambles or goes at his man, he doesn't work hard or put his neck on the line for the team, he doesn't work for his team-mates or the shirt. He's a shirker.

Alexis is looking a poor signing but irrespective of that, i'd rather have someone who actually works hard but lacks quality, rather than someone who isn't interested and thinks he's better than he is.
Reading this it’s like you’ve never watched him play.

Doesn’t take on his man?
Is a shirker, doesn’t work for his team mates or the shirt?

Think everyone will agree he can and should do better than what he does but that to me anyway just seems like made up stereotypes. He comes back more than Sanchez, he often goes at 2 or 3 players in most games.

Anyone who thinks this lad is good enough for Manchester United, needs a serious look in the mirror.

Kanchelskis, Sharpe, Giggs, Beckham, these players are the level we need. Not this guy.

"Oh Mourinho has ruined him. Oh he's not getting a chance"

Granted, Sanchez being bought in hindsight was fecking stupid but, this guy has done nothing since to prove his worth. When you're dropped, when things are going against you, you dig in and prove otherwise! Not just in football but, in life. You always aim to be as you can be, to give yourself the appreciation you deserve... He deserved feck all today

I'd still give Sharpey a game over him.

Loads of green smileys I'll receive I'm sure but, all good

Couldn't agree more. It's simple for me, put the shirt on and look like you want to be here. If you come on with 20mins of football, prove in that moment regardless of where they play you that you deserve to start. Simple. Not seen that for a long time. If he wants to leave, I'd carry him on my back to where he wants to go. The problem is no one wants him even for what we paid for him he's that good.

I keep saying yes movement and pressing of lingard and Sanchez is important but in the end for forward players getting assists and goals is the most important thing. Lukaku is not absolved of his mistakes but lingard and Sanchez are not reducing any goal scoring pressure off of him. How many times in a match do they look like they are about to score? Not many times at all

Didn't he do the whole come off the bench and win his spot in the team thing last year. It's nice pretending that last season didn't happen.whether you like it or not 20 minutes here and there is not a proper chance. If he was the first forward off the bench every week like Rashford then you would have a case

Ffs Lukaku waiting for the ball to bounce to him in the box and having zero awareness of the on-rushing defender.

If he goes for the ball there are 2 outcomes there, it's either he goes for it and shields it and boly barges on him resulting in a pen or he shields and shoots

Precisely this. There is a hell lot of Lukaku bashing going on even in the Lukaku's thread, most of which is unwanted. Yes, he had a bad game and should be criticized for that miss, but Lingard and Sanchez are just piling on more pressure on Lukaku for goals, by not helping themselves.
A forward like Martial with his tricks and flair, whether from the left or probably up top along with Lukaku could be lethal. With Sanchez off form we should be thinking of benching him and giving a a proper run of games.

Yeah Rashford and Anthony were a lot of help to him last year

Or get to it and volley with his left before it touches the ground. In any case, it was a great chance to score or use his body to get a penalty. Instead he remained static waiting for the ball to reach him, comical. Kind of reminds me of Valencia running out of ideas and bouncing around a stationary ball as if hoping for his markers to scare away and give him space to play into.

Yes and proved successful at it, as did Rashford so more of the same please. If you have a player that could win you football matches, contribute to winning trophies and save you your job, wouldn't you play him? If you then aren't playing him, there is a significant reason why. Either you don't rate him in the same way others do or I suspect if he's not doing what's asked of him off the pitch, you are rewarding him on it as it sets a unhealthy precedent. Also Martial doesn't work hard enough without the ball and so he'll never be a Jose player. Jose will always look to Rashford before Martial for that reason alone....

Incredible piece of skill! Remember spotting Lukaku not even going for it and being furious
Fellaini's reaction pretty much mirrored all of ours

But yeah, incredible from Martial. What a talent he is. Let's hope he gets a run of games because it's all he needs like Shaw did.

I've been having this thought for a while.

Many of our fanbase are pissed with the way Martial has conducted himself since the transfer of Sanchez, and not without cause, BUT

See the performances Sanchez serves up week after week, you can't help but think he'd be the same in training. So if you are Martial, you train with this same guy every day, he earns like 5x your wages, is crap in training and matches, yet weekend after weekend you are on the bench and he starts, it'd be pretty demotivating, to say the least.

Say what you will about the competition under Fergie and his occasional indulgence for his stars, but I struggle to think of a single instance when he kept a player who stink the place out for months ahead of others.

Yeah but Sanchez runs around a lot and Martial looks disinterested or something..

Fergie kept rotating his teams constantly, there were no favourites and everyone felt they had an opportunity. That's probably why everyone gave 100% for him and we rarely, if ever, heard about players being unhappy.

Mourinho's squad management is his biggest failing.

He deserves a run. I think he will get it sooner rather than later. I predict Sanchez to be dropped completely before Jan. He's playing himself out of the team and Martial needs to play at his best every time he gets on the pitch to capitalize on it now.

I have no idea why he didn't start. Should have given him an opportunity to build on the midweek game. At OT, I prefer Rashford and Martial anyway given teams sit deeper and their pace makes a huge difference.

We started the last season pretty well, scoring goals in plenty. Martial in specific had around 20 odd goals + assists, if I am not wrong.
With recent Sanchez performances, Jose could be tempted to use Martial a bit more. Thus a chance for Martial to sort out his attitude a little and grab this opportunity.

He should be back into the team and starting on the LW.

Where are those defending Alexis automatic inclusion into the team and defending the way how all that shit was handled? Yeah that worked out pretty well didn't it? What did we gain from it? Nothing, only unsettling the only good winger we had for the sake of Jose's latest buy. It infuriates me to this day, fecking shambles.

We should try Sanchez up top and drop Lukaku. Sanchez was mainly playing through the middle in last seasons at Arsenal. And obviously play Martial on left.

I do Martial is massively overrated by our fanbase, but that being said he does deserve a run now whether it be for Sanchez or even for Lingard (he can't do any worse).

I think he's been taking notably fewer chances with running at defenders out of fear of losing the ball. Can't blame him either, some of it might be tactical instruction from the manager considering we look like conceding every time the opposition counter.

I agree. He will almost fall flat on his face but I think we should try him up front. If he doesn't show significant improvements then he will be sold at the end of this season imo.

Man Utd 2:2 Derby
Fair play to him, 10 men and he was still running his bollocks off, trying to make something happen. Definitely more of what I want to see from him. Surely earnt a start.

Not everything came off and there were a few errors but still gave an 8/10 performance in amongst that horror show.
