I think the weird polarisation around here is because people go so overboard with him and others obviously don't see what some do on the pitch, and it's frustrating. Talks of terrific and giving the defence nightmares after a very ok but forgetful performance (aside from that miss). He won a freekick and people are rating him highly because of it.

This thread is bordering on the ridiculous. People are seriously acting like Martial was one of the worst players out there, when he was one of the few to actually make things happen. Sometimes you really have to wonder what people are seeing to come up with some of the hyperbole we've seen since last game. It's nonsense.
Horrible miss and some poor plays but was dangerous and drove us forward and won free kicks and tormented their back line at times.
What's getting lost in this debacle of a thread is that he is tracking back well and Jose has noticed this and rewarded with consistent starts.

I was thinking no one seems to have mentioned that bit of play in our box, came back with his man took him on in the box and took the ball off him. That’s the kind of thing I can see Jose really appreciating.
Myself I think him not being defensive is a myth created by people that don’t have a clue. At times he has been overly defensive and at times yesterday as well. Last season as well he’d always go back with his man.
Apart from missing that chance it was a very good performance from Martial. He had a hand in both goals and was a real threat for Leicester throughout the game. I don't understand why he was subbed because he was helping the team by protecting the ball and winning a lot of fouls for us. The front 3 of Lingard, Lukaku and Martial have linked up really well recently and they are showing good understanding too.

He better be injured or better still sick, Martial is probably our most exciting and promising player and I would HATE for him to be snapped up by another club. I can see him doing a De Bruyne or a Salah on Mourinho and making him look very stupid for getting rid. All ifs and buts, but for me he puts me on the edge of my seat everytime he picks the ball up in an attacking position.

Fully expect he's got a knock. He was hobbling during the Leicester game after he made that tackle in our penalty area.

Dropped to the bench would make sense but dropped entirely must mean an injury. He also doesn't strike me as the sort to respond well to punishment, seems like an arm round the shoulder and show confidence in him type.

Still played a part in both goals despite being 'half-arsed' vs Leicester, and the goal we conceded to drop points happened when he was off the pitch.
Anyway, he clearly picked up a knock vs Leicester otherwise he would have been on the bench just in case as our bench attacking options are pretty bad.

I thought Martial was one of the better players against Leicester, even the commentators on NBC (which I think is fairly good) said he was having a good game. If anything Rashford should have been dropped from the squad so that he can comeback refocused. So hopefully it is just a knock and he will be straight back into the team once he recovers.
A fecking injury in the attacking areas is the last thing we needed. Hope he is well soon.
We are halfway this season and after watching the first half i think our best formation would be 5-3-2 with Martial as one of the strikers but in a free role, i think he would flourish!

Based on how little he has progressed and on performances this year, he needs to turn it around big time to be compared to a De Bruyne or Salah at this point.
He's clearly talented, but he's also not making use of it right now. Whether this is Jose's tactics or the players attitude, I do not know.
