Given how narrow the wingers are today, and how much both Mata and Rashford have been drifting into the middle, there doesn't seem to be any particular reason not to play Rashford nominally on the right. It's hardly like he's playing on the left as it is.
I think Mourinho simply has a preference for both Rashford and Mata starting. Martial appears to be third choice in terms of what he brings to the team. Maybe it's because of how similarly Rashford/Martial play, and how differently Mata plays from both. Jose likes to have a mixture of styles on the pitch and Martial's game is not quite as mature of the others' at the moment.

This would be a good game to bring him on early. 45mins kind of early. He's not in the French squad so rest Mkhitaryan or Mata.
Rashford played his best football on the right when under LVG.

That likely works for the team, but why on earth would the players want to be rotation options, especially when playing well?
You then leave the door open for someone else to make them a better offer, which I'm sure many good teams would.
It's not a rotation really either, there's a strong and seemingly irreversible preference for Rashford over Martial.
Why not? Don't you want your best players starting as many games as possible?
