Lets hope he buckles down and earns his place back. Competition for that LW spot is high but none of our attackers are performing that well there.

I think he's got a bit too comfortable last season with his spot guaranteed and maybe thinking he's already made it so young. I expect Mourinho is looking for more workrate among other things.

The problem with him is whenever given the chance he doesn't provide that constant movement, direct focus, and harassment of defenders that you would expect from the player with his qualities.

Seeing him strolling around at age 20 and then looking at the likes of Sanchez, Suarez, and Cavani threatening oppositions non-stop gets on my nerves.

Very good management from Mourinho that, even if my views are not always on the same line with his perceptions.

Those you mentioned are playing as CF in their clubs, not as wingers, only Sanchez transitions to wing when Giroud is on.

The way we've treated him after seeing what he did for us last season is an absolute joke, all things considered. From the whole number fiasco to handling his bad run of form, it's sick.

It's like we're not allowed to have a starlet with world-class potential and we're punishing him for carrying us to any sort of respectable achievement.

No, what he should have done was run down blind alleys on the wing and let opposition wingers knock the ball past him for fun like Rashford. That would have kept him in the team.

God forbid a 21 year-old flair player goes through a rough patch. Fecking support him. Our club really does reek of being infested by amateurs.

Spot on, please Madrid or Bayern, #freeMartial

So far his treatment of Mkhitaryan and Martial kinda reminds me of his treatment of Joe Cole during his time at Chelsea. Cole struggled to start a run of games at first, was name-checked by Mourinho in interviews and was constantly asked to do more. He was a better player for it and became a regular afterwards. Let's hope Martial and Mkhitaryan deal with Mourinho's tactics in the right way - by getting their head down and working hard - and don't sulk off to pastures new.

Unless, of course, I'm completely mis-remembering Mourinho's treatment of Joe Cole. Maybe a Chelsea supporter would care to back me up/put me in my place.

A questionable attitude from the player and joses questionable method of dealing with such issues makes me concerned about Martial

It's simple. He has to do more when he gets the chance.

Exactly, lets see how he responds to a swift kick up the arse, Mkhitarayan seems to be coming out of the other side of it well enough, time to see Martial's mental strength.

All that number fiasco and poor management will force him out I'm afraid. Hate to see that, i haven't been so sure of one of our players becoming world class in a while.

I'm huge Martial's fan(his footballing technique), nevertheless his movement is absolutely shocking at this level and before he improves the particular element significantly he can have no complaints for not having any assurances on his starting position.

Mickey Taryan is already formed as a player and as a person, Martial isn't. You can't apply the same approach for both of them. What worries me that Mourinho isn't a "talk and pat on the back" type of the manager.

I'm a massive fan of Martial, but if that's all that it takes, good riddance. Although I'm a tad more optimistic than you, and think he'll come back stronger. He has four years left on his contract also, if I'm not mistaken. Not like we're pressed for time

Hilarious use of one of the most talented players in world football. Hope Pep tries to sign him in January while you play the likes of Lingard and Rashford ahead of him. Mourinho has no clue.
:lol::lol::lol:

Jesus Christ the knee jerk in here. It's like Mkhitaryan is back in the squad so we have to find something else to complain about. People begging Real to come and buy him. Give your heads a wobble ffs.

Or, disregarding the squad number thing, perhaps the same player that suffered a disappointing European championship, is being asked to do more under a new, more demanding manager at a time when he's struggling for form and therefore doesn't deserve to start. Perhaps dropping him and challenging him to deliver more of his undoubted potential is the best thing Mourinho could do for him.

I don't see anything wrong with the way Mourinho has handled Martial this season, he has to do more if he wants his place in the team.

He seems too passive on the pitch and doesn't try and get himself involved more, the moment Rashford is pushed to the wing he is always trying to take his man on, and then you compare it to Martial and he doesn't do it enough.

Against Arsenal he barely tried to go at Jenkinson which was sad to see.

I do not understand because he came off the bench around 3 weeks ago and curled one into the far right Henry style. People were saying that he was now suddenly in form. Its madness, just play him regardless of form, he is arguably our best outfield player. Madrid would not drop an out of form Bale for some academy players.

I'm confused by this. How could he be asked to do more than he did last year? He made 49 appearances last year as a teenager and basically carried the attack for this club. Often times, he was the architect of our only good attacking moves in games. Even if Jose's asking him to put the team on his back, he's already done that once. Maybe Mourinho's asking for more defensively (wouldn't surprise me), but that ignores everything that he brings offensively that pretty much nobody else on this team is capable of bringing.

He's not He's being asked to show more than he has so far this season. Plus, as good as he is offensively, he still stands around too much waiting for the ball to come to his feet. He could do a lot more running into dangerous area and demanding that his teammates find him. That's one area of his offensive game that needs improvement.

But you are not Mourinho who said that he asked Martial to play a different role and that he needs time to adapt to that new role.

....if opinion or a view outside of Jose's now counts for nothing, close the forum down and might as well just watch Paddy Mc on MUTV.

In a game that was very likely going to come down to moments of individual brilliance against a team parking the bus, we leave the best 1-on-1 player in the team out of the squad entirely. I just don't understand it.

Martial getting into good form is our only hope of top 4. He is that good as shown last year.

It is so hard for attacking players to get into form when they stop and start with appearances.

We saw this with Tevez. Berbatov was getting the minutes, Tevez would play here and there and try too much or not be sharp etc. Then he goes to City and Juve and showed his true class.

Martial needs to be played into form. I have no doubt that if he is given time on the pitch he will produce.

Oh well, 80th minute, 1:1 on the scoreline, you're going all out for the win and the best you can come up is Fellaini...whilst Martial is watching the game from the stands.

Sure why not.

I'm annoyed we play Lingard over a talent like Martial. He should leave.
 You should hope he comes good for the club rather than to see him blossom elsewhere. You have your priorities truly fecked up.
I don't know what he's normally like but he's talking absolute shite today mate, ignore him.
He is like that all the time. Always a "me" supporter who thinks his opinion is gospel and who loves to remember us his different previous posts as if he was a genius writer.

Its the case of Kevin deBruyne all over again.
It shouldn't and won't be the case. He's already shown what he can do in this league. He's been poor so far this season so can't really have many complaints but I'd have him on the wing over Rashford/Lingard any day.

He was a one man attack for most of last season. We can't afford to not give him as much time as he needs to find his feet again

I'm saying more in the case of Mourinho ignoring a talented young player.

Well Mourinho isn't the only manager who seems to think Martial has been poor. He's been poor for his country too.

I think he should start. But you can't blame the manager alone on this one. Martial has been sulking about shirt numbers.
