I don't think it has anything to do with the type of player he is and his skill set. If anything, he suits Mourinho perfectly you would think. It's all down to the effort he puts in and maybe not adapting to Mourinho's style just yet. Maybe being our main guy at 19 last season got to his head, but he clearly could do a lot more on the pitch. Work harder off the ball, be more direct at times, be more confident, don't just take the easy option. Enormous potential and I have no doubt that he'll turn into a world class player. Just hope we don't lose out on him and see him turn into a world class player somewhere else.

Hilarious use of one of the most talented players in world football. Hope Pep tries to sign him in January while you play the likes of Lingard and Rashford ahead of him. Mourinho has no clue.
You're a fool if you believe it's as linear as that.

I hope Zidane/Madrid sign him and he goes to Madrid to show his talent

Because we are wasting his talent, disgraceful
That's just drivel. Martial has no one to blame but himself; he's been shite this season.

Dream on. We ain't selling to City. You can have Rooney instead

If we're one down with ten to go then I'd sure as hell want Martial coming off the bench to try and change the match. Dropping players as some kind of punishment doesn't work.

Mourinho is a bit rough when it comes to man management with some players but I am trusting him on this one, Martial is still very young and even though Van Gaal might have won him over on his side last year, Mourinho is a new one and the palyer needs to be convinced again as he could easily think he's guaranteed to start after the season he had, every player needs to prove himself in every game, that's the message from Mourinho. Sweinsteigger wasn't working hard enough, Mikhitaryan later, now he's back and the same treatment is now applied to Anthony, if he's not a prick and works hard to get back, we have a worldie in the making but if he can't get on with his mentality, he will hardly become consistently good enough for a manager like Mourinho.

And that's what Mourinho demands 100% commitment in every game, he needs to know which player he can rely on. Individuals can win you single games when on song and that's Martial but mentally strong units/ teams are winning the titles. I am sure he will come good, he looked like a groundeed lad when he arrived not someone who'd make problems attitude wise

We expected this when Jose was appointed, he'll play a 19 year old striker down the left wing and wonder why he doesnt perform, then drop a player who can naturally play there, and wonder why his form doesnt improve. Reality is, he doesnt have a clue how to handle and nurture young talent and its showing here.

We'll have success under Jose, no question, but it'll be to the detriment to a generation of young players, like Martial, Rashford, TFM, Shaw, Tuanzebe etc.

When that same 19 year old played the very same position for both club and country last season.

Some of criticism on here lacks serious thought.

:D Martial is one of the worst players this season. He deserves to be dropped so stop overreacting please.

Other players in the same position are working harder and doing more for the team at this moment. Even Lingard scored a worldie midweek. Martial can have no complaints, he looks like he's been riding on last seasons achievements all season so far. He needs to put the work in to prove he deserves to be in front of the guys around him.

Mourinho is creating competition for places, it's exactly what we need. However he needs to put his personal favouritism aside and apply the same rules to Zlatan.

You haven't got a clue who works harder. All we know is that Martial has been struggling for form. Leaving him out of the squad altogether doesn't solve anything.

Give him 5 starts in a row, that is all

We are already far enough behind the pack because of our players under-performing. As talented as Martial is, he's been piss this season.

Maybe a break is exactly what he needs because he's looked like he just doesn't give a feck on the pitch and has looked tired.

We have enough talent not to shoe-horn players who are not playing well for a little ego boost. Success of the team comes before the success of individuals.

Seems some United fans know how he trains and the aittitude he displays in training somehow. Very similar comments being said that Chelsea fans said about De Bruyne or even more recently Costa and Hazard when they were accused of sabotaging Mourinho.

Neither does playing him when off-form.
... So what does? Playing a player through bad patches with positive support does more than punitively keeping him out of the team entirely.

Yeah, Mourinho doesn't have a clue, United fans don't have a clue either (despite watching him week in week out) but a City fan who watches him every once in a while does.

That's some enlightenment we're blessed with here.

Well, he isn't going to start performing sat in the stands. Players in form merit starting berths, that goes without saying. But Martial is more than good enough for the bench and we need him to be in a position to help us.

Yeah, or you can run him into ground even more with more and more shite performances. Works both ways, doesn't it?

Plus you can't really have it both ways all the time, can you? Can't be chasing teams up the table with a couple of passengers all the time, no?

Do you realise the talent Martial has? He shouldn't need to prove himself ahead of average players like Lingard
:D I don't really rate Lingard myself but this comment is ridiculous :D I don't care how much talent Martial has, he needs to show it on the pitch. He is absolutely useless this season and contributes nothing to the team. We can't afford to select players like him and hope he will improve. We need points now.

He is our just 14th most featured player in the league and 16th in Europa League, and that's in a position where no one is playing well. He didn't get that much chances as some might think, although he is really poor this season, but considering his talent I would stick him over some players definitely.

No, that is exactly what you do when you have one of the most exciting young forwards in world football. We've dropped plenty of points this season and Anthony Martial hasn't been close to the reason why. Particularly when you consider that Juan Mata is the only attacking player to have played anywhere near an acceptable standard.

Just don't see how keeping our arguably the most talented player out of games can help him bring back his confidence and form. Truly appalling man management from Mourinho.

This all reeks of Martial going out in summer, i hope that's not the case but i bet there's at least 10 top clubs that would pay top money even if is not to play a single minute this season.

Pretty much. I'm also struggling to understand what Lingard's "shown on the pitch" this season or in any previous season to deserve being picked ahead of him.

The problem with him is whenever given the chance he doesn't provide that constant movement, direct focus, and harassment of defenders that you would expect from the player with his qualities.

Seeing him strolling around at age 20 and then looking at the likes of Sanchez, Suarez, and Cavani threatening oppositions non-stop gets on my nerves.

Very good management from Mourinho that, even if my views are not always on the same line with his perceptions.

If we sell Martial, then I totally give up. We're going to have a new manager in about 2 years who'll come in and say "Shit, really wish we still had Martial."

Think the only reason Lingard is playing atm is because his pretty much our online option down the right flank and he does a lot in defense as well. Mata can play there too but he's nowhere near as good defensively, which is Mourinho's main concern.

The way we've treated him after seeing what he did for us last season is an absolute joke, all things considered. From the whole number fiasco to handling his bad run of form, it's sick.

It's like we're not allowed to have a starlet with world-class potential and we're punishing him for carrying us to any sort of respectable achievement.

No, what he should have done was run down blind alleys on the wing and let opposition wingers knock the ball past him for fun like Rashford. That would have kept him in the team.

God forbid a 21 year-old flair player goes through a rough patch. Fecking support him. Our club really does reek of being infested by amateurs.
