Think he was MOTM tonight.

Direct, fast, pacey, taking on defenders and gliding past them.

Backtracking, helping out Blind a lot.

He needs to work on his left foot finishing tho.

Crazy.

I love him and he was Okay to good.

Herrera, Pogba and despite overall being average Ibra scored 3 goals. Literally can't think of one reason for Martial being MOTM outside of favouritism.

He was outstanding tonight. Was at the game and basically pitch side seats for Martials side first half and it was a joy to watch him up close. He has so god damn much natural talent and the thing is he hasn't even started to fulfill it, we just see glimpses every game and it shows in him too as he's as pissed off as everyone when it doesn't go right for him every time. The sky is the limit with this kid and he should never be out of the first 11. Having himself and Mhki on form will be immense for us going forward.

I love him. My favorite United player by far.

I'd be absolutely gutted if he leaves. Thankfully, this looks less and less likely with each passing day.

Pogba was very good, Herrera was sloppy as fek in first half, too aggressive in attacking the ball high up the pitch which left Bailly open on few occasions. Don't get me wrong i love Herrera.

Martial made things happen, dribbling and going past defenders, getting himself in scoring chances and generally being fun to watch.

Ibrahimovic scored 3 but he wasn't nowhere near being the best man on the pitch.

Love when he goes on runs like that. Would have liked to have seem him score obviously but he worked hard for the team including getting back.

Would like to see him play weekend, rested midweek then start the final.

Aye, was just wondering. I was watching him for large swathes and it was just so frustrating that he didn't make a few runs in behind.

Credit to him it he tracked back and had a few electric runs, unfortunate not to score.

It just annoys me that if he just made a handful of runs in behind to give them something else to think about and mix it up it would benefit him and us so much.

For periods today entire minutes went by where he just didn't move for Blind or the CMs.

Was thinking that if he had Lingard's movement then he would be unstoppable. He's just so good with the ball and he wants to pick it up from deep all the time and run with it.

But he's only 21, so hopefully with a strong manager like Mourinho he can learn and improve his overall game. I think he's willing to learn, Mourinho was saying that he's working hard in training.

He was good tonight, our most penetrative attacker. Imo he wasn't used enough, had swathes of space and time at times but our midfielders failed to pick him up especially int he first half.

Don't know if it got caught on cameras but Jose gave him a right bollocking when he lost the ball and failed to make much of an effort to track back which led to St Etienne's best chance towards the end. As he plays more, his fitness and concentration will improve towards the latter part of the game. 'Job well done' pat at the end by Jose so all's well!

Nice to see him playing with confidence and he is improving now, using his left and going on the outside more. Such an exciting talent.

His body language has changed for the better. He's absolute art when he's in full flight running at a defence. Think him Mata and Mhkitaryan are the key going forward to success.

Jose doesn't care if he loses the ball, his priority is to make him fearless but diligent when possession is turned over. You can really see he is looking fearless, its not to say he wasn't for large spells last season but there were times he lacked confidence or would drift in and out of games, but now its pretty clear, give him the ball and he is gone.

We have to make sure we hold onto him and even build the team around him. I think Pogba and even Rashford are huge talents and future stars but I reckon Martial has it all to be a future Ballon D'or winner.

If he played inside out rather than outside in, he'd be among the best players in the world. Wish he'd spend time analyzing both Ronaldo's and Henry's movement and positioning.

Love how Mourinho has evolved him into a Wide Left Forward. His combination of speed, strength and close body dribbling is mind-blowing. Reminds me of a young fat Ronaldo.

I think he should commit her career to LWF and perfect it in every way possible, much like Messi has done on the right side.

Hmmm.. he was already playing like that at Monaco no? And of course since he has been here with us too.

LVG played him mainly at no 9. Though of course we have LVG to thank for Martial

Mourinho not only playing him wide but also setting up tactics to exploit his ability, just like he did with Duff and Robben many years ago

He really didn't. Martial started off as mainly a 9, yes. Depay usually on the left, Mata on the right Rooney in the hole or some variation of these things. But then Memphis was rubbish, so Martial got moved out left with Rooney up front and eventually Rashford. I am almost certain Martial spent more games on the wing than as a striker last season.

Maybe : last season was so forgettable and I slept though so many of our games!

Regardless he's doing great in LWF and Mourinho also knows how to develop such a player

He was devastating on the left wing last season, in many games our tactic was to just pass the ball to him and hope for the best. He has been looking more and more close to that form recently.

It was a pretty solid mix of LW and no. 9.

(transfermarkt - http://www.transfermarkt.com/anthony-martial/leistungsdaten/spieler/182877/plus/0?saison=2015)

LW - 24 apps - 11 goals
RW - 4 apps - 2 goals.
CF - 20 apps - 4 goals.

You notice as the season goes on he starts to play more and more on the flanks. I personally prefer him there a lot - I'd be telling him to bottle that run he made today when he almost scored and Zlatan almost tapped in the keeper save and literally just telling him to stand off the fullback and look to do that all game every game.

Jose is coping nicely with him , I think it will be a long love story between Martial and us.

There was a moment against Watford and again yesterday where he absolutely beasted his man with a shoulder charge. Which is not something you'd typically expect from him. He seems to have a fire in his belly that wasn't there before. Impossible to know how much is down to how he's been managed and how much is down to getting his head straight now the distractions in his personal life have been sorted. Either way, he's a different player to what we saw in the first half of the season.

I still wish he'd get a bit better at running in behind. Hopefully he can learn from Mata and Ibra. They both time runs brilliantly but lack Tony's pace. If he can do the same then Pogba will create a LOT of chances for him.

Ah. I see the point's already been made. You could see Pogba lose the rag when nobody made to run in behind as he came out of defence after making that great tackle in our box in the second half.

Two good matches now! Just don't lose your shit when he's rested against Blackburn...

I don't think he's really that compatible with Ibrahimovic. You can see times where Martial will make a run or dribble and Ibrahimovic positions himself in ways that impede his progress a bit. It's as if Zlatan had decided it's enough of Martial, i want the ball now. Other times Martial will play what is supposed to be a 1-2 but Zlatan has other ideas and will hold it up instead or give it somebody else instead. I think there's a lot that can be done by others to get more out of Martial.

It's whats stopping him being the #9 some people (himself apparently included) seem to want him to be. Michael Owen mentioned it in punditry too. He doesn't make nearly good enough runs for a striker. He likes it to his feet in space to run at people. This has been evident from his very first goal.

It's also a bit strange in the sense that of course he could learn to run more like a #9 is supposed to but his greatest asset, by far, is when running at defenders at full speed. He won't get to do that nearly as often when played up top.

You & your Zlatan agenda man.

The team has also improved at isolating him with the opposition RB.

Which also explains why Mourinho often prefers Rashford wide left in away games where there's going to be more space in behind to exploit. Although Martial's current form probably makes him undroppable, home or away.

I remember Rio saying that Martial's biggest weakness was his off the ball movement. Rio said something along the lines of if he was coach he'd just work on Martial's movement all the time, because he's got everything else.

Was electric at times last night with the ball at his feet. That run in the first half was Giggs esque.

A propos of not much at all:

It might be a weird effect of him playing next to Ibrahimovic but he looks somehow like he's shrinking. He is listed as being 6 foot or thereabouts but he doesn't look it like.
