Angelo Henriquez

The same people who are moaning about buying him would be first in line to moan if we hadn't pursued through the deal and let City buy him.

Angelo Henriquez has no intention of wasting his dream move to Manchester United.

The 18-year-old had a medical with the Old Trafford outfit on Tuesday and was due to meet Sir Alex Ferguson on Wednesday to sort out his short-term future. That could involve remaining at Old Trafford, or being allowed to leave on loan, either to an English club or his present team in Chile, Universidad.

United have yet to confirm details of the deal, but speaking to Chile paper La Tercera, Henriquez said: "I am super happy to get to Manchester United. I'm fulfilling a dream. I am going where I wanted."

He added: "You look on television and see the outstanding players, scoring spectacular goals. I cannot waste this opportunity.

"It is not clear what will happen with my future.

"I want to play in the first team of Manchester United. That's my first thought.

"If they decide to send me on loan, I would prefer to continue at Universidad, although I will do whatever United deem appropriate."

I'm happy that we got him, and happy about getting Powell and especially Kagawa, but now with RvP most likely coming in, this means we've signed 2 strikers, a #10, and another #10/CM, while disregarding our need for the obvious :) I wonder what Fergie's up to, he's got my trust but this is somewhat suspicious to me :)

In order to obtain a work permit I wonder if they are going to send him to Antwerp.

Hope not, if he stays on loan in Chile and keeps up his form I'd imagine he'd get a call up to the senior Chile team. With a senior international cap backing up his impressive performances getting a work permit on the basis of being a special talent shouldn't be a problem.

Even if they decide to go the European route I'm sure a loan move to Twente or another decent European club would be preferable to Antwerp.

With him saying he'd prefer to go back, I think that'd be the option. Is the Chilean league in progress or out of season? If out of season he'll train with us and then we'll decide what to do I guess.

he's like jones, we had to step in to ward off other clubs, he could do a hernandez and get off to a flyer.

still no confirmation about his signing?

don't mind him staying in chile for another year as long as we make him officially our player now.

There's a media report - Jamie Jackson from the Guardian - that the Henríquez deal is not finalised and that his future is up in the air.

Interesting, especially given the reports yesterday that the player was at odds with his agent.

This smacks of a wounded City trying to gazump us. Hope that's not the case, as Henríquez is a real talent by all accounts.

Anyone know anything about this deal...?

Hey, don't shoot the messenger!

I was just relaying what I've read. Was worried that it might have some credence given the source of the story is a proper journo, as opposed to an attention hungry imbecile; though the boundaries are increasingly blurred thanks to Twitter!

That's what I thought - all the words from Henríquez seem to be positive. Hopefully this is just a case of a shit stirring hack trying to engineer a story that isn't there.

Been a quiet summer for Citeh in the transfer market, rags are desperate to stir up the city v united in the transfer market pot, they didnt get it with RVP now they are trying to instigate it other ways.

You have a point but the player himself recently gave an interview about his once in a life time chance at man utd

I wasnt having a pop at you, just the papers who feel every united transfer story has to have man city as an antagonist. Its fecking repetitive now.

Sad, pathetic shitheads.

You know they always like to try and get one over on us, obsessed they are.

I honestly wonder if City actualy have their own scouts or they just pay other team's scouts behind closed doors and then hijack the move since you know, money's not a problem.

He just said this-
Clarification: seems Henriquez is #mufc player where he plays next up in air...

so presumably question is does he go straight back on loan to Chile, or to someone like Twente - can't see him getting a UK work permit just yet

Reminds me of the Jones saga last year. Turned up for a medical but took about two weeks to be confirmed.

He said he wants to stay with United or go on loan back to Chile rather than a european loan. So most likely we'll see him loaned back to Universedad and take on the challenge of trying to win back to back copa libertedores. Also makes it very unlikely that he'll be going to City since they arent United and arent in Chile.

I wouldn't mind seeing him in the reserves for a good season - we need an attacker there now Keane's out for the season (potentially). I'm sure Joshua King will go out on loan again. The pros would be that he could get used to Manchester/England in general, and that he can be instantly integrated the United way.

Saying that, it would equally be as efficient if he stays in Chile until the end of their season there. Universidad won the league last time, so it would be good to see them try to defend it and him being a part of it. He's still 18, which I find absolutely terryifing/shocking considering he doesn't play like his age at all. From what I've seen, which is admittedy only 5/6 games, he's very mature for his age in terms of his playing style. Hard to explain, but he just seems to have more of a footballing brain than Macheda for example.

It's hard to judge his strength/whether he could handle British football (be it PL or at reserves level in general) since the defenders in South America are different to what they are, personally.

I can't wait to see him in a United shirt  Reminds oh so much of Ruud.

Edit: Reserves = U21 league, whatever.

The reserves though? It's a step down from the level he is playing now surely? The reserves needing a striker is a bit meaningless really. Results aren't so big player development is. Going from the level he is playing, especially in competitions like the libertadores in front of huge crowds to playing reserve team
Footy at Alti in front of 200? Can't see how it would aid his development personally mate.

Yeah, I forgot to mention (even though I was thinking of when to type it as I was typing the above), that I may just hold that belief simply because I'm selfish and I want to see much more of him, since watching him playing for the reserves would be easier for me than to watch a random latino stream.

It also emphasizes how I keep forgetting he's only 18. He does indeed have plenty of time to get used to Manchester and the English game. I just keep thinking he's 22 or something

I work in altrincham so it'd be very convenient for me :) we have signed him a few years early because of other interest by the sounds. I'd have no worries getting him loaned back. I don't want him to lose his enthusiasm for playing for us mind. It's nice to see.
