Such rumors are abound about these youngsters always.

There were lots of rumors.of Gribbin joining City and Chelsea before he signed a deal as well.

Why though? The U18s before McGuiness left were awful even though that team had Borthwick-Jackson, Fosu-Mensah, Rashford, Williams and Tuanzebe.

They praise City's U16s for going unbeaten for however long even though I'm not sure this actually does them any good.
What does it matter what they were like before? We're talking about present moment. There's certainly more joy and success to be had there, compared to the U23.

I don't even know why that level exists, the way it does now. It's completely pointless and meaningless and does more harm than good imo.

How great is it that he is Manchester born though? Been missing these type of players that has the club in their veins. Hopefully he signs the contract and goes on to be our next legend.

London born, but settled in Salford at around the age of 3 when his dad was playing for Salford.

Hopefully we can't hit too mega-talents like that with them both having the IQ of a Llama
You just insulted an entire species by saying they were thicker than ravel. Think a poll is due as to what species has less IS than ravel though. But way off topic / thread and apologies to all lamas for getting mixed up in this too. #blameroflution

 I'll take it back!. Turns out Llamas have an average IQ for being an animal according to a study.

Turns out they can understand the concept of mirrors.

Now, please renew Angel Gomes, so we can stop the Llama vs Ravel talk

Don Balon, hardly a beacon of reliability.

If its game time he wants, moving to Real would require a special level of daftness.

Given Ronaldo made his name at United in a stable environment, away from the RM circus, this would seem particularly stupid advice on his part.

Hopefully we give Gomes a run-out tonight. He might not be 100% ready but, as we saw with Pogba, sometimes you have to make exceptions for young players to keep them.

Would be stupid of him to leave as he could be squad player starting next season. Hopefully this is done quickly !

Any possibility we see this lad tonight?
Our hand may be forced at some point if we don't want a repeat of the Pogba situation if the rumours are true.

What do the posters with a bit of knowledge of the academy make of the situation? I think we should wait to see what they say before panicking.

The lad is no doubt a talent but he's no Pogba at that age. The problem I have with so many of the young players coming out Utd, they are producing good footballers but its unclear what position they play in. Ok it's the class of 92 but there wasn't much mystery about who played where.

I'm guessing Angel would be a 10 but bloody hell, I know he's still young but what would be his pathway to playing in any of the front 3? It's not like Martial, Rashford or Rom are old men? Also you just know next season you could see another big signing in that position and that's without the Pereira factor.

I think if anything, young players do need to think about realistically their pathway to any first team, and if there one?

If he wants to leave then leave. I won't shed a tear over a youth player who doesn't want to be here.

He's 17. Its absolutely understandable to be producing players without an absolutely nailed down position at that age, especially when you're talking about the first team. Whether it be this season or the next, his minutes in the 1st 11 are going to be minimal and any minutes on the pitch would be great rather than the position they come in being an issue. Long term, you cannot plan your purchases for the 1st 11 keeping in mind a kid in the academy. If he's going to make it here, he's going to need to earn that spot in spite of the competition, that's how it is, especially at top clubs.

Angel will be a 10 or 8. Might deputize for Pogba for example once he's ready.

I decided to look at his Twitter, still plenty of likes and Tweets regarding United.

This one, too;

Talking about how his debut was hopefully the first of many. I'd hope this is something of nothing, he's very talented, hope his head's in the right place because United is a great club to develop at.

I read something recently about how every talented young midfielder wants to be a number 10. They don't have the role models in central midfield that they used to have. Maybe Pogba might change that?

There's Toni Kroos and Thiago too. Kroos might be a bit too 'plain' in his style of football, but those three are really who a young central midfielder should be looking at as the sort of idols in that position.

Been around academy football for a long time including with my own son but not saying I'm the barometer but the idea of a lad at 17 without clarity about his position may have been applicable years ago but young people's football education is very different now. What you say might be logically right but when you are representing the player or guiding your son, you want a clear roadmap to first team football with the caveat of a number of variables like the nature of loan moves etc. Good young players can easily get lost in big clubs....ask Pereira and to a degree Pogba. I'm sure Juve's roadmap was much better than utds which proved to be the case. Whoever advised Pogba proved to be invaluable to him but expensive to Utd.

He loves the club, he doesn't want to leave. So you'll not be needing to save any tears. Every interview he's ever given he's spoken of how United is his local club and the only club he wants to play for.

His first choice would be to stay and play for us. He will leave if he's not given assurances there's a path to the first team though.
