Is Angel injured? Why else does Ole keep wasting minutes on nothing player Lingard while Gomes isnt even in the teamselection?

He's not pulled out of the England u20 squad so there's a real possibility that he's in a contract dispute.

Always those who wish to believe some random twit on twatter with regards to Gomes. Lad loves the club and has been unfortunate with injuries. He was 100% off to Barca before his last renewal and getting abuse off United fans on twatter. We’ll all have to see how it pans out, but the right deal and assurances on playing time, he’ll sign on for another 3 years I’d say.

I'd wager the rumours are likely true that he's stalling on a new deal, or at least little progress has been made. JB said he thinks Gomes and Chong are unlikely to play for the first team again unless they sign new contracts. Howson reckons the same thing and he's got decent connections within the academy.

Hopefully he signs a new contract soon. It would be very unfortunate if he left because Ole keeps wasting playing time on Lingard...

Im sure he is aware of other young players leaving their clubs and being succesfull there. For Sancho and in the past Pogba it has been a big succes for example.

Solskjaer hasn't shown any reluctance to play other youth players, we don't know what's going on behind closed doors but if he is refusing to sign a new contract then there's not much point giving him game time.

There were talks on Reddit that we have offered a contract and he's not going to get a chance until he signs that. Don't know how true that is but this mystery injury seems to backup that situation. Let's hope all parties could come to an amicable solution. We desperately need a good # 10

There's no mystery, he was subbed off injured in an U23 match a couple of weeks ago.

Definitely the case In my opinion and I reckon he's going to refuse and leave in the summer.

Might be the case. Still there is absolutely no talk of him anywhere. You'd assume he would be in and around the first team even when he was fit but nothing (since Rochdale?). There is definitely something going around and i don't think it's good news for the club.

Likely but i can't see the reason. Say if someone like Mourinho was in charge it's understandable that players with the build of Gomes don't have a great chance of making the first team. But we have n manager who is ready to play the youth and we've seen likes of greenwood , Brandon even Garner thrusted into the first team and do well. He wouldn't get this kind of chance in any other big club. Why would he want to leave?

Probably a slight grudge against the club for letting him sit it out while he sees his peers getting gametime. Footballers are human too, they get miffed by things and remember them.

What a waste. I hope he gets some good advice.

Still believe that Gomes will be United's first choice number 10 by the end of the season, he just seems taylormade for that position, and now we are getting the semblance of a settled team (McTominay is a doubt for the next few games I know), then he could be given a few run outs in that position in cup games and the odd league match. Pereira looks the best short term fix for 10 (I think Pogba would be ideal, but long term don't see him being here after the summer), Mata for the odd game.

It's likely he's sitting out because he's not signing a new deal though, same reason Chong's minutes have dried up.

Giving Greenwood 5 minutes at the end of a match isnt proving the ''no reluctance'' part for me. There have been plenty of times Greenwood, Gomes or even Chong could be put on the pitch instead of Lingard or Mata. If he really trusted the young players he would give the young players the 30 minutes playing time instead of wasting them on a player who clearly isnt good enough (Lingard) or former pro footballer Juan Mata.

I agree that if Gomes is refusing to sign a new contract he shouldnt be playing but if there is still room to negotiate, giving playing time to Gomes would most likely help in convincing him to sign a new deal. Pogba wanted a chance but noticed that Fergie rather played backs in midfield than give him a chance so he left... if i was a young footballer (at the age playing games is important) and i had a manager who keeps giving minutes to Lingard/Mata instead of giving me playing time, i would also consider to not sign a new contract and leave.

Greenwood's minutes have been fine for a player his age and experience, keep in mind he started the season when he was 17 and he's still got a slight build.

So far he's been given PL (112), Europa League (257) and the EFL cup (90), his minutes will naturally increase with experience. I don't necessarily disagree that Mata and especially Lingard have been getting too many minutes but that also doesn't make me change my inital point that I think Solskjaer is willing to play the youngsters if we have the chance to, which we've only really been able to do now we've a settled side that's starting to win games (comfortably too).

Gomes probably let it be known early on that he's stalling on a new contract hence the reluctance to play him and therefore we have to opt for Mata and Lingard becuase theoretically this period without a CAM would've been ideal for him to get minutes otherwise. While minutes probably help convince a player to sign a deal there's pretty obviously a reason he's not getting them, one we're oblivious to, maybe it's contractual or maybe due how he's training but the fact he's being frozen out same as Chong leads me to believe it's contract related.

Angel is 168cm tall according to Transfermarkt. This 66.14 inches, or 5'6". Height stats on the web are often out-of-date but Transfermarkt are the most up-to-date. Angel is still a better header of goals than Rashford will ever be.

Yes his headed goals record at senior level is amazing! Oh wait maybe not...
Plus he’s not 5ft 6, he’s the smallest player in our squad, smaller than Mata. Angel is around 5ft 2 or 3.

It's like fecking clockwork with Angel's height

Chicken and egg though. He is reluctant to sign with no game time, he's not getting game time because he won't sign if this is true. Similar to Pogba way back when.

I think any youngster would be making a mistake leaving Ole's United personally, if playing time is their priority. He's obviously shown a willingness to give opportunities, and appears to reward those who take them - Just look at McTom, James & Williams.

Hope he signs and has a strong second half of the season.

It would be idiotic to deprive a player of game time because they are reluctant to sign a new contract, because of game time.

That isn't what I said we were doing, I speculated that we weren't playing him because he's refusing to sign the contract. We have 0 idea why he's refusing to sign. Could be wages for all we know.

I understood what you were saying. Not playing him because of a contractual issue is nonsensical.
