Without meaning to interupt your debate, Lingard is on a higher level but only because he has more experience. Lingard is a average player, he has hit his peak and does not fit in with this team. I would disagree that Gomes is not ready from what i saw in pre season. The kid is majorly talented and if you have ability you should be tried especially given what we have is not working and is terrible. I think Ole knows he is ready but is waiting for the league cup and europa league to unleash him.

Gomes is still an unknown quantity, pre season friendlies mean very little, I mean people bring Jesse and Mata into the equation and he played on the left during the pre-season, so his rival would be James and Rashford. Even Jones had an exceptional pre-season, but no one brings that up.

I'm pretty sure Ole has already made his comments on Gomes and they were very positive about his potential. I don't know why people are getting their pants in a twist over him. He'll play and prove himself.

I think especially at home he should be on the bench . He could have done something against Palace and could probably have helped at Southampton. What's the point on Matic being on the bench it's more likely we will next a Gomes rather than a Matic during a game

I can't see where it would go wrong for him. Giving the ball away a lot due to the higher tempo would usually be a worry with a young player, but a few of our current first team players give the ball away more than I've ever seen Gomes do. He has great vision and understanding of the game and I think he can adapt. A safe role for him would be at nr.10 right now, just swap him with Lingard and watch him exceed expectations.

We are stacked in the area Jones plays so I think that is irrelevant. The point is, Gomes plays in a position we are really weak in. I am a Mata fan but i think he only had 60 mins in him per game. Lingard is wasteful, has not scored or assisted in 2019 and his involvement is not great. He does lots of running but where is the value in that when he gets knocked over half the time. We can watch the world go by like we did with Pogba or we can give the kid a chance. What we have is not working, there is zero harm in testing Gomes out. I am not a fan of throwing random youngsters in the squad, lets say Garner, but gomes is special. I have said this since he was 15/16. Pogba was special too, we need to recognise this by showing trust in him.

Yes preseason games are irrelevant, that was my point, shame you missed it.

Except they’re not, Greenwood wouldn’t be getting minutes like he is if he didn’t impress in pre season. Gomes will get his shot

Maybe McTommy or Pogba were carrying an injury? So fans don't know a managers reason for selections, but I'd say he obviously has them. Fans need to be patient, but I keep seeing a lot of fans who think they know better...

He's a talented young man and I would like to see him start at number 10 for us in some games soon. I would say he is just itching for a chance.

Messi was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency and was given human growth hormone. Was Angel Gomes every treated with this?

His contract situation is a big factor I think. I think more people would be comfortable with waiting for him to take opportunities when they came his way if he was tied to the club for the medium term. But people look at the example of players like Sancho and worry that he could be tempted away to a club that wasn't so reluctant to give him chances and will throw him into first team football.

He has been on the bench every game this season so I doubt that's true . If you read any of my other posts you will see I'm not having a go at the manager . I just don't see the point on Matic being a sub

Gomes has been on the bench?

Matic because we needed a goal and he brings alot of experience to keep the ball moving etc. We had a lot of youth on the pitch who need marshalling.

No Matic has been on the bench every game so it's not because any of those players you mentioned are carrying a injury. Matic because we needed a goal ? Is that a joke ? He is the past player you would want on the pitch when you need a goal against 10 men

Greenwood just extended his contract, Gomes and Gardner are currently in negotiations. Ole has stated on numerous occasions they will all get playing time and given a timeframe for this. Unless fans wish to will their lives away, they just need to remain calm.
I'd say big difference is City had quality ahead of Sancho. Gomes has Mata and Jesse. If Gomes doesn't think he can oust either of the players ahead of him I'd be surprised.

Matic was brought on and Pogba was pushed further up the field. I think it was more a reaction to how we lost V Palace where we were completely open in Mid when searching for a goal.

He'll get his chance soon, no need to get dramatic.

If anything, Ole is going to extremes by radically reducing the average age of the squad/first team. He is fielding the youngest team in the PL, to balme him for not starting youngsters is ridiculous. He isn't managing United U23.

Matic is on the bench because he is the only holding midfielder in our squad. Pretty easy to understand.

I agree that we cannot get too carried away with Gomes as if he is the answer to our creativity problems. If we was as good as half the fans think he is, he would be playing some part.

In respects to average age, Greenwood is the only one really Ole has given a go to.

He has inherited a young squad, and with the additions of AWB, James and Maguire he has got rid of the older players.

But it's not like he is giving youngsters a chance, Rashford, McT, Martial were all there before him.

Yeah I get that but we didn't need 2 defensive midfielders or anyone else to cover we had 4 defenders and McTominay on the pitch at the time . It's just frustrating when games are there to be won and we have someone like Gomez not making squads .
I suppose his time will come

You dont seem to understand what I'm saying obviously. There is no need for him to be on the bench he offers nothing from the bench . Now do you understand

He does if McTominay gets injured. Matic being on the bench isn't the problem. Its the attacking options like Mata Pereira and Lingard that are not good enough

Just realised that he is out of contract at the end of the season. Bloody hope we don’t end up with another Paul Pogba situation again!

He'd need to be given a chance in a match for this to happen! He rarely even makes the bench either which is more frustrating. He could have played some part in the Palace match.

We still dont need him on the bench we have Pogba Pierera who can play in there . This isnt a anti Matic thing btw I like him more than most but if he isn't starting I don't see the point of him being on the bench . Especially when we are playing teams like Palace and Southampton

I think what Matic offers is experience and if we were winning 1-0 or 2-1 come the last 10 mins and control it.

Pogba was already playing and so was Pereira. Also Pereira is not a DM and no he cannot play there either. I don't like Matic but him being on the bench makes sense.

That chance went to Greenwood and he was anonymous. Ole cant just load the bench with teenagers, he’s got to have a good muxture.
Ole has already stated his stance on Gomes, fans need patience.

That patience is what might make us lose him. If he decides he isn't getting a chance and wants to go the Pogba/Sancho route, we will be kicking ourselves for years and years.

Just play the kid Ole. If he doesn't do well then it gives you more ammo to say "stay patient you're not yet ready but you'll get more chances"

So you're saying we dont need a single defensive minded midfielder on the bench? What's your solution if Mctominay gets injured? Yeah Matic has been shit for a while, but hes still the only defensive midfielder in the squad and that's why it'd just be dumb to have a squad that he isnt part of.

I'd say he, Chong and Garner will play some part in the league cup and Europa league games. That will give him a platform to impress and force his way into the league squad. I really don't see what more Ole can do here, he can't throw all the youngsters in at once!

What has he ever said that’d indicate he’s considering leaving? He’s strongly bonded to the city and the club, we didn’t poach him from another clubs youth, he’s one of our own. It’s rather annoying people comparing him to players who don’t share that bond.
Got a bit out of hand on his last contract, he was getting abuse on Twitter from so called united fans who had been fed he was going to sign for Barca. Whatever happens with him will happen. Speculating and comparing him to people who have vastly different upbringings isn’t very constructive.
Let’s see what happens with those Europa and Cup games before futile fretting sets in.

He's obviously never verbally said anything, but the fact his contract is under 12 months is very worrying.

We've seen with Hudson Odoi and Sancho that German teams will happily offer good money to prize away the top English talent.

I just hope we can give him enough time to keep him happy and sign a new deal.

The youngsters these days are purely concerned about game time. They know 1-2 good seasons in a lower ranked club and there will be a queue of clubs coming for your signature.

I don’t think it’s asking too much to get him in the 18 man match day squad. He offers something different going forward to everyone else. And even if he’s homegrown it’s not illogical to worry about his contract situation given the recent trend of British talent.

Any reasonable sources saying we have started talks with him yet? Saw an Instagram post by some randomer sourcing “The Athletic”.

In fairness I think the Athletic is the new newspaper which pinched a load of good journalists.

Maybe the way to get Angel Gomes onto the pitch and into this fabled number 10 role is simple.

He needs to wear a Jesse Lingard mask.

Guranteed to work
