Why are we all so crazy about Man United? I don’t think it is just because we won in the past. Is it because watching inventive people execute disruptive plans at an elite level is exhilarating for us humans?

Gifted, intelligent athletes like Rashford and Mason Greenwood will likely turn out to be stars for us but the people who most embody this principle are people who are not absolutely top-drawer athletes like Scholes, Beckham, Berbatov, Pogba (he is an athlete too which makes his ceiling incredible), Ravel Morrison and now Angel Gomes.

Scholes and Beckham were thrown into the deep end as kids and, because they were inventive, created space for themselves. Ole needs to do that with Angel. Now.

It’s clear as day that ole is doing no such thing. Lingard is a main starter at no 10, and he believes he brings more to the game than assists and goals. Gomes is in no way dislodging Lingard,if he gets an injury it will be pereira who comes in. The only games Gomes is getting is in cup games.
Talk me through today's starting line up then? This comes a day after Ole also saying he's not afraid to drop Lingard, guess he was lying about that too? And what's wrong with cup games?

No they weren't. They got minutes here and there until they were comfortable with the level. Gomes should be treated the same way.

People want to play real life football manager with this kid. It does not work that way. He'll get his chances but not yet.

Yep - more experienced or senior players always get the first 'dibs' in the season until an injury or exceptional performance in a cup or on the bench shifts the pecking order. It's how it goes.

He'll start or play a part against Rochdale, but hope people don't expect too much too soon from him, otherwise you'll be disappointed.

That's a bit negative, people are optimistic because they can clearly see a talented player.

I knew this would get reopened again and soon as I saw the bench - please can we stop this moaning? On our bench today and Tuanzebe, Greenwood and Chong. That’s so great for our academy!! Gomes will get his chance but let’s just be thankful for a moment that Ole is giving the youth a chance and getting rid of our deadwood.

I’d be very happy to see him start the next game (if fit). He doesn’t have to do much, if he can actually pass the ball and retain possession a bit he’s ahead of his rivals. I know he can play on the right side and will work for the team. I hope Ole shows him that he can force his way into the team and give him a chance.

He is talented, but the problem with some fans is that they hype players up so much that when it comes to it, they are disappointed if that player doesnt quite step up.

Depends, not every club operates like that. Plenty of clubs give their promising younsgsters playtime from the beginning, especially when the old guard fecks things up. We have no squad depth.

People saying he's not ready and his time will come can feck off, he's technically better than 95% of our first team at the moment. He ripped it up against big teams pre season so his size and age are not a problem. If he'd have started at no.10 in our first 4 games we'd have scored more goals and earned more points because the added spark of quality we've lacked at no.10. On that reason alone Solskjaer has fecked up, and should be criticised for his incompetence.

I’m guessing you didn’t watch him play last night then?

Honestly, I think this talent is going to jump ship.

If Ole thinks he can scrape results using non-entities like Mata and Lingard, good for him. Results are speaking otherwise. If Ole doesnt want to stay true to his manifesto and give this youngster an opportunity to prove himself better than the dross we have in the 10 position, I wish Gomes all the very best elsewhere and Ole will also end up elsewhere. Gomes might not be the answer, but neither are the players he's sticking with.

Play him. It's not getting any worse up front. Ole is an idiot if he doesn't give him a chance in the PL.

I think he might struggle in the league. The combative nature of the opposition might be too much to handle right now.

Lingard and Pereira cant handle the league because of a lack of talent yet they still get to play.

Ideally none of them would play, and we'd get Fred and Pogba to work in the same midfield. In any case, unless you're absolutely brilliant, as well as very good physically, I can't see anyone lightweight surviving in midfield in the PL.

Bullshit argument, if Mata can play, the lightest/slowest/weakest player in the league, then so can Gomes.

I'm not trying to argue, I just can't see it. If someone like Mata who is very smart and experienced still struggles with the physicality, then how much more a raw and lightweight Gomes?

Today even Pogba, Pereira, and Scott were struggling with the pace of it, losing the ball, etc. I can't see Gomes faring any better, unless he's really that good.

I did, what's your point?

He was poor. Against West Ham reserves. So your wild claims about him ripping it up against top opposition ring a little hollow.

Basically you’re doing what people always do. Reading far too much into preseason games where the vast majority of the players don’t really give a shit. That and the other classic redcafe trope. Thinking they’re better judges of reserve player’s quality than the coaching staff.

To be fair we've got a lot of elite young attacking talent ahead of him right now like Lingard and Periera.

How can we see if Gomes does well or not if he is not played. Mata is a good footballer but lacking in speed and mobility and Gomes surpasses him there. Gomes has ability to play in tight spaces at high tempo and is something different from the lumberjacks we play there in Matic, mctominey and Pogba.

He wasn't poor, and you didn't even watch the match by your own admission so bizarre why you're asking people if they watched and then making such claims.

He scored a great goal, and the whole team went to shit so it's pretty excusable that he did as well, especially after not being involved in anything for a month. They're hardly wild claims either, there's substance behind why everyone wants him to play. I also wouldn't underrate the majority opinion amongst fans compared against one person's choice either. Manager's and coaches are capable of making the wrong choice repeatedly, surely you'd understand that being a united fan over the last 6 years? He's a better no.10 than Lingard and Mata therefore he should play, simple as that.

I read the opinions of other people whose opinions I trust. And you’d expect him to be tearing it up at that level if he’s already as far ahead of first teamers as people keep claiming. Reminds me of all the times managers got slagged off for overlooking the phenomenal talent of Pereira.

Don't say "I'm guessing you didn't watch him play last night?" In the future when you didn't watch the game yourself, embarrassing.

The opinions of someone who claimed Williams did no wrong despite even Danny Webber saying the goal was his fault.

Like Luke says above, it's quite rich telling people they didn't watch the game when you didn't even watch it yourself. Downright bizarre tbh.

He's tore it up at that level enough times. He also had a great first half.

So he wasn't poor and you didn't watch the game.

Eh? I didn’t tell him anything. I assumed he hadn’t watched the game as it’s odd timing to come up with all that hyperbole immediately after a game in which I’ve heard more than one person say Gomes played poorly. Against opposition far weaker than he would have faced today.

Sigh...

Hopefully he at least make the bench for Leicester. I really don't see the harm in starting him either.

Januzaj got his first start away to Sunderland in a struggling team, and his performance was one of my favourite moments post Fergie. Let's put some faith in one of our most promising talents.

You flippantly assumed he didn't watch the game, ergo claiming he must not have. What's odd is talking about watching a match which you haven't even watched. Once again, completely bizarre.

I think you’ve said bizarre inappropriately four or five times now. Must have a different meaning in Canada.
Please tell me more about how Angel played last night seeing as you didn't even watch the match. Perfect for insights.

You've tried to act smart telling someone they didn't watch and then tried to tell them how Angel played when you didn't even watch and they did. I don't know what bizarre means where you're from but that's it.

Don’t be so fecking stupid.

You do realise it’s possible to work out if a player’s had a good or bad game without watching the match? I saw the Gomes goal so was excited to hear how he got on but - as I already fecking told you - I heard from more than one person that he didn’t have a good game. Particularly in the second half. Hence my reference to the game.

I’m sorry if my use of the ability to read offends you but there you go. I’m a bit sick of repeating the bleeding obvious so I’ll leave it at that.

You getting on your high horse saying that my opinion "rings hollow", when you're going off other people's opinion over one reserve game, in which he scored. That's the only stupidness around here.

Feck me. Do you think he had a good game last night? And by game, I mean 90 minutes of football.

If you do then, fine. I didn’t watch, so I’m not gonna argue.

I watched the game and he was very good. When we were 1-0 up thanks to him, the whole team sank. Whats your point?
