Is he as good at defending as people here seem to suggest? Surely, the RWB position is not our excuse to stick a winger in there because the new formation has no wingers.

Di Maria, if he comes, will want to play every game. Where will we play him? What of Rafael then? He's the perfect man for a RWB position. He's a great defender on his day and has oodles of attacking talent. So back to the question - Can we really play him?

Clearly bollocks from the agent to get the deal to psg tied up quickly.

We could at least brag about having the most expensive wing-backs in the world. A mere £70m+ for the pair.

We won't sign him. PSG and Madrid playing games to try to get each other to compromise I reckon.
As usual our name gets used.

If Woodward jumps in with all that cash apparently burning a hole in his pocket with a decent bid, he could be ours.

Agree :( It's the sad truth. Would be amazing.

Imo he signed for PSG a minute after the WC final. There wasn't anywhere else he would of gone

Or just the people that don't see where a £40m attacking midfielder slash winger fits into a side playing three at the back, and already featuring Mata, Rooney and Van Persie.

But otherwise yeah, we're morons.

And what are those 3 players you listed lacking? If we want this system to work, we need pace.

some of you are being so damn stupid about this 3-5-2 nonsense

who even says this is van gaal's preferred method? it's very likely he's using this formation as we truly lack a good defensive midfielder for a midfield three, and solid wing options.

van gaal always played a 4-3-3 with the dutch when strootman wasn't injured. he's played different formations at every team he's managed. the system is important to him, not the shape.

all this nonsense about questioning the acquisition of the mvp of the cl final and best winger in the world, just because we'd have to change the fecking formation is ridiculous.

if we got ronaldo back we'd unquestionably go to a 4-3-3 and feck the team's whole shape and undoubtedly create massive imbalance issues just to try to whore ronaldo into scoring 50 goals.
but di maria isn't good enough? di maria is better then any player we have at the moment barr van persie.

Well said mate.
Some folks in here haven't fully grasped how versatile Van Gaal can be.

I'm not sure why people don't understand this, good post mate but will most likely fall on deaf ears.

the system is important to him, not the shape.

That is van Gaal's motto translated to English. He repeats this mantra everytime to dutch interviewers

And spot on, he will have his plans if he buys di Maria.

No one knows what formation LVG will play. Come on would you really turn down the chance to sign Angel Di Maria?
Got a pretty good idea though, given he's said he's changing the system, wants to play two up front as we have too many attacking players, and we've been linked to Vermaelen constantly which makes no sense unless we intend to go three at the back (even then admittedly it still doesn't make a lot more than no sense). It may go tits up in which case we'll revert to type, but I don't see how you can disagree that it's his plan A at this moment in time. He's not spent all our preparation time so far (which he'd already complained about having too little of) to feck around with a system he doesn't intend to use.

In which case we have to drop, or preferably sell one of them. So that's either Van Gaal's captain of the dutch side who he says shares his philosophy completely, or our record signing of about six months ago, or the player we gave an absurd contract to even more recently than that and is about a season away from being our top goalscorer ever. About a month ago I thought Rooney was going to be the one to lose out. From what we've seen so far though, Van Gaal thinks he's found a way for all of them to work together.

I also get the impression that not much people watched him last season the way they keep talking about him being used on the wing and as if he cant play anywhere else. Imo after how he played last season, using him anywhere but midfield would be a waste. Versatility is definitely not a problem with him. In the end that is how he stayed at the club instead of ozil who is the more talented player.

It's more that a midfield pairing of di Maria and Herrera seems somewhat fragile.

Why do we have to sell?

You not heard of competition? Rooney and RVP at times last season provided lax performances knowing that they won't be dropped.

Yes. Very true.

Although I don't think he'll end up here.

According to PSG fans on Twitter they're now convinced Di Maria is United bound. BeIN sport they claim are very reliable on PSG news.

Surprisingly I have heard of competition, however I'm not keen on the idea of what would be our record signing essentially being used as a reserve in case one of our main strikers aren't pulling their weight. Though in reality if we did sign him, it would almost certainly signal a shift back to 4-3-3, and one or two of our current big three would be the ones providing the "competition".

The quatarian and french versions are reliable, but are the quotes genuine ?

We're signing the screenshots as a smokescreen for Sneijder.
