£29 million
£27 million
£64 million

TOTAL: £120 million

Say what you want but, Ed was right about one thing. We have spent in a way we've never spent before in a window

37 million on Mata
27 million on Fellaini
16 million on Rojo

Nearly 200 million spent since Fergie left and we are still in a state.

Quite unbelievable.

I also think people who don't think our wingers are a urgent priority need their heads testing.

Court case?!
Yeah. It's in the papers today.

He apparently assaulted his neighbor in Argentina with a bottle in 2010, and prosecutors are still wanting to make him stand trial. If found guilty, he could face one year in prison. Not sure how true it is, and it quite possibly isn't, but if it is, it could cause a problem for us.

James Rodriguez had a good World Cup, apart from that is he really all that?
Ah yeah I agree, but he's certainly the hot property post WC, and Monaco don't need the money. I do think James is a trade up on Di Maria in the roles he'll play, right in the middle. Bale and Ronaldo will play out wide for madrid, Di Maria was always sort of a make shift CM, although I will concede he was incredible there last season

ah ye i suppose that makes the point invalid, perfectly normal for RM to bring in the hottest property in football, post world cup, from an oil rich club and turn a profit
A profit of almost 1m if we win a premier league and 2 champions league titles (which is apparently the future incentives)?
Anyways, Di Maria is on a different level to James, for now at least.

The fact that Real Madrid fans are scoffing at the claims of doom mongerers claiming Di Maria is overrated says enough about how good he has been for them last season.

And that these skeptics haven't got a clue.

So we're getting him for the same price they paid for Rodriguez. Interesting merry-go-round.

I'd love to know the strategy behind our transfer activity this summer. It would b fascinating to know the deals we've gone after and haven't got done. who was a priority etc

Seems a lot of people are ignoring the following:

1) His manager wanted him to stay

2) His teammates wanted him to stay

3) The fans of the club appear to be annoyed by the sale

4) The club wanted to keep him but weren't willing to meet his demands (but were willing to meet the demands of the likes of Rodriguez and Bale over the last year). Smells of Makelele?

So he's taking the initiative to leave as much as anyone. Obviously there's the element of money involved but we need to get on that bandwagon because it's firmly engrained in football now.

Also, we saw all these great stats when Mata arrived and he's been awful. The team around these players is important too. Look at Ozil to Arsenal, Ozil had an even more ridiculous record at RM than Di Maria

Sorry, are you seriously claiming that Mata has been "awful" ?

You can make a case to say he's under delivered based on the large fee, but "awful" is far too much

The bitterness doesn't stem from the fact he's a brilliant player but the fee, teams around us like City and Liverpool can't grasp that we are able to be so totally unaffected by FFP but the reason for that is they refuse to see us in the same bracket in terms of club stature like Real and Barca, when painfully for them, we're in the top 3 biggest clubs in the world, that sounds arrogant and I'm sure the fans of opposing English teams on here will disagree but it's a truth, an undeniable truth.

He also will improve us enormously, other fans try to say wings isn't an important position to strengthen but are more than happy to call Young and Valencia shit and Januzaj overrated, I think this signing is huge for us, honestly 2 CMs with Di Maria and we're laughing, he's what we've been sorely lacking for years, someone with frightening pace that can beat a player and do what a winger is actually meant to do cross the ball well. Contrary to what people are saying, if we sign 2 more CMs this could actually be one of our most crucial transfer windows ever.

It is a crazy amount and we do need to bring in wingers but we could get away with just 1 quality pacey winger this window (Di Maria).

Just a small detail - out of those 6 players, only one played today, three have not yet played a competitive match for us, and one of the others has played one hour competitively

Now for a centre back AND another centre mid, minimum. We're still far from ready for competing for a top 4 spot.

Massively overpaying if spending anything over 45mill.

Over Dortmund 69mill and you'd get Hummels Reus and Gundogan.

Midfielders needed cleverly fletcher young Valencia all hopeless.

Presuming you mean offer instead of over, no we really wouldn't. Do you genuinely think Dortmund would let those 3 go for that much combined?

Will he play in a midfield three or as a winger? He's comfortably better doing the former IMO.
The patterns of opinions on where he plays best is hilarious. Madrid fans: he's great in both positions and we're pissed off the club are letting him go, non-United fans: he's best in a central role. United fans: new amazing winger.

Januzaj's got the #11 shirt but Di Maria's going to be the one that really steps into his shoes I reckon. Now if we could just get replacements for Scholes, Keane and Rio while we're at it then we might just win the title. Pretty simple really. Strootman's not quite at that level but he can play the Keane role, maybe Mata can be a Scholes replacement if van Gaal decides to play 433 with Mata as a centre mid but we really do need a top class defender. Benatia to top it all off would be nice.
