I'll play along! The only attacking players I can think of that are better than Di Maria are...................................
1.Ronaldo
2.Messi
3.Suarez
4.Bale
5.Robben
6.Silva
Can't really think of anyone else other than the above. Let's just agree that we're close to signing one of the best attacking players in the world.
Probably are the only one if you only count the people who have properly seen him, as the others would base it off a handful of games. Last season he was pretty much Madrids most important player after Ronaldo and had an amazing season all around, and was one of the top 10 players in the world last year.Am I the only one who thinks he's being massively overhyped on here. Very good player, but people describing him as "top 10 in world football" are in for a nasty shock
agreed, and welbz is intelligent versatile player as well so he has to fit in van Gaals philosophy. I have no doubt that we could play all three, currently most convincing players to start Januzaj, Welbeck, di Maria together.. Januzaj and Welbeck as Strikers and di Maria just behind them. It would provide much more pace into the game and creativity as well. We could play a better pressing game. Today it was horrendous. Rooney doenst seem to be working hard as he used to be. Van Persie was maybe the worst player on the pitch.. if that penalty calling chance bottled welbeck he would be crucified here. He should have shooted.. But other than that he was jogging all the time as well as Mata who just have to run more in that position. Di maria has a fantastic workrate and would do well there as he could put pressure on the defenders and he is such a natural player in final third ether centrally or wide... he could also interchange roles with Januzaj who I would give free role, he could rome around make space and dropp of sometimes to make pass like he did for rooney in swansea game. ATM he is better in wide positions but CAM is his future role if he won't go even further. But that would mean that we need another or rather two midfielders but we could go out withWe need somebody other than Welbeck with genuine pace. I was watching the American broadcast, you know because I'm from America (sue me), and I'm not sure who, but one of the announcers was saying that while Di Maria is a great player we needed to sign somebody with genuine pace. I kind of wanted to bang my head against the wall after hearing him say that.
I really hope we don't sell Welbeck since I think he's a better partner for both RVP and Rooney than either of them are for each other. I also think he's one of the few genuinely pacy and athletic players we have, who while not being a great natural goal scorer is fantastic in build up play and I think can be a good option through the middle in 3-5-2 or as a wide player in 4-3-3.
How did this get from 48M this morning to 63M?

Don't agree that Silva is better. Maybe more talented individually but Di Maria isn't far behind at all there, and has way more pace and better work rate, and based on last season, he'd have to go ahead of Silva. Also I wouldn't put Bale ahead of him. Di Maria's last season was better then anything Bale ever produced, he just isn't a goalscorer like Bale so doesn't stand out as much. Bale is more of a forward and Di Maria is a better winger, but as an individual player I'd take Di Maria, though it depends on the team. Same with Reus who is of a similar class I think. Definitely top 10 in the world though.I'll play along! The only attacking players I can think of that are better than Di Maria are...................................

Sounds like Woodward has gone balls deep into the transfer kitty.
A certain Randy gif from southpark would be very appropriate right now. Come on Ed! We know you can do it! Di Maria, Vidal and Benatia all announced at the same time! He's been all fart and no poo until now, nice to see the toilet bowl has been finally filled!

It was Balague. He's the main source of this £63.9M figure as well.It was never £48m - probably media bollocks.
Isn't it like 10-15m in future incentives? Would go from the 48m to the 63m that the final deal altogether is.It was never £48m - probably media bollocks.
I'd say he's individually not in that top tier of players and I don't think he ever played a good enough season as a winger (if that's the plan) to warrant anything remotely close to this 60m pricetag. I like him a lot though and he could be exactly what United is missing in attack. A player that looks for all the gaps to fill instead of trying to be the best individual. I'm not entirely sure yet how you can utilise him best in this team though and I'd be very surprised if he reaches his peak form from last season consistently if he's played as a winger, especially not if he's supposed to be the main attacker instead of being the supporting player who connects all the outstanding individuals around him.Am I the only one who thinks he's being massively overhyped on here. People are saying it because both have great pace and are brilliant on the ball. Di Maria has never been a goalscorer though so I never really got the thinking that he could fill a similar role. He could probably get like 10 goals a season, maybe 15 with european football, but highly unlikely it'd be more.I'd say he's individually not in that top tier of players and I don't think he ever played a good enough season as a winger (if that's the plan) to warrent anything remotely close to this 60m pricetag. What I don't get are the Robben comparisons, I don't think he could ever play the role Robben played at the world cup.
Watching messi play for barcelona against Eliche has me excited about this signing. I am worried he may be underwhelmed when he sees himself lined up next to some of the players that started today, but hopefully his own quality motive them to play much better than they have been playing. Moreover, I hope Van Gaal can picks players that can complement Di Maria ability.

Tough to say. When we bought RVP he certainly felt like the best player since Ronaldo. Our best player since Ronaldo, do we think?

Obviously he isn't talking about the attack because thats our strongest part of the squad.Lining up next to Mata, RvP and Rooney is underwhelming? Come on now.
Best in terms of individually being able to make things happen? Probably. Our best player since Ronaldo, do we think?

Thats a bold predication to make.Best in terms of individually being able to make things happen? Probably.
He'll never score more than 10-15 a season, but I don't think people will fully appreciate him until they realise how he creates chance after chance at such ease. The technique in his delivery is different class.
Our best player since Ronaldo, do we think?
