Stupid Glazer's and Woodward, with their tight purse strings, never willing to spend extra to get world cla.. oh ... Di Maria you say? How much? Feck me, stupid Glazer's and Woodward, spending too much money to get world class players!

it's a fickle game!

So. What is your starting lineup going to be assuming all fit and not adjusted for a specific opponent ?

IMO
De Gea

Jones/Smalling - Evans - Rojo

Rafael - A. Herrera - Carrick - Di Maria

Mata

van Persie - Rooney

Januzaj - Rooney/van Persie - di Maria

Pool fans saying we're desperate and we overspent on Di Maria. I think they forgot the part where they've spent 25m on Downing and 35m on Carroll.
They also forgot the part where they have just overspent 15 mil £ for a mid-table winger

Impossible to say just yet. I think we're going to be signing at least one more starter.

How the hell are we going to come up with a chant for this one?

Ave Maria?
"Ohhhhhhh diiii Marrrriiiiaaaaaaaa"

Actually, that would sound class. Sorry to break video rules:

We can't. It'll make our players cry. The Spanish play it at funerals.

If that's the case, then I really would have rather a high quality CM in the Vidal mode and a bargain winger than an expensive winger and bargain CM tbh. Though, De Jong isn't that bad. But we'll see, it could also be that Vidal knees put United off or who knows United could still sign both.

I think De Jong would be a great short term option. If we got him our squad would look a hell of a lot better.

------De Jong---Herrera-----
Di Maria-----Mata-----Januzaj
-----------Rooney----------

That I think would be more than capable of getting us back in the Champions League, even with a not so great defense.

I for one couldn't care less how much ADM cost, as long as there is still plenty of coffers to strengthen where we need it most.

I feel we might go for the diamond, with di Maria LCM, Herrera RCM and a better holding midfielder. Similar model to yours I'd imagine shall we go for it - Ander would play a similar role to Henderson, but most of our pace and width would come through di Maria drifting onto the wings, rather than the pace in the apex of Sterling in yours. van Persie naturally drifts wide on the shoulder of the defenders, and Rooney likes to drop a little deeper so it should allow Mata freedom and hopefully he'd have more key passes to look for. In such a scenario;

De Gea
Rafael - Smalling/Evans - Rojo - Shaw
New #6/Carrick
Ander - di Maria
Mata
RvP - Rooney

I still wouldn't credit him that much. This is an opportunistic signing, just like Ozil, Mata etc and there was basically no competition.

I am not denying him any credit, but I am not sure if we had ADM in the radar when he gave the interview.
I agree. But at least it appears the comments on having serious cash to burn this window are true

Di Maria is coming off his best season as a vital player for the CL winners. Ozil had an good but underwhelming season for the FA Cup winners. Why shouldn't opinions change?

Can't attract the top players.
Can't get players due to no champions league.

That sh!t would be straight out the window if we buy a player from last year's champions league winners. A guy who was well received as a very key player last year.

Boy you're my Angel, you're my darling Angel. - to the tune of 'Angel' by Shaggy. A bit gay and will be hard to hear blokes, geezers singing that.

Four first team signings in one summer. That is too much for us to handle! We are going to start forgetting names!

We're close to signing one of the best players in the world for a record fee which basically debunks every anti-Glazer/Ed statement this summer (won't spend big, can't attract the best players, can't get players without CL football, scourge, tight cnuts etc), and yet people are now apparently turning it on its tide and use those exact reasons to blame them now.

Caf logic.

Different people different opinions, i guess.

Ultimately it's what you do on the pitch that matters and spending money doesn't necessarily equal success. Dunno, why some people thought not spending enough or not be willing to was a issue even. We have spent a fair whack already in the last 12 months to add to a title winning squad.

Whether we have spent it as well as we could is the debate for me and always has been. The Glazer out stuff on the back of our squad underachieving under Moyes for a season was nonsense.

I always thought United would still attract big players but I would guess it has meant some players would be less attracted due to last season and no CL.

 Wtf! you guys are unreal!

Maybe he "wanted" to leave because we bought a replacement?

No he 'wanted' to leave because of the shite he got from the fans last season. It rather culminated in him making an obscene gesture with his genitals after being substituted off although he has denied that. Real buying Bale unsettled him as well. He wanted to leave because he never got the appreciation and was never valued by the Real hierarchy. His true value in the squad wasn't reflected by his salary and if reports are to be believed he isn't even in the top 10 earners at the club. It has been reported that Di Maria rejected a contract renewal after the CL final and even before James Rodiguez signing so stop trying to save face and admit that Real have been diabolical in dealing with Di Maria which led him to want to leave Madrid.

£50 or so million on a top player, or 6-7 £7-8m players like Bebe, Manucho, Dong, Diouf, Bellion etc and all that sh!t that never achieved anything? Isn't even a question worth debating.

forgot how good he really is. After watching some videos, he reminded me that he is worth every penny. What a player, especially against Atletico and Barca he absolutely destroyed them.

It's actually pretty boring isn't it.

We're not very good at this... I mean we act like kids at Chrimbo at the thought of a marquee signing. Surely fans of clubs such as Real, Barca et al don't go mental like us lot. Well, they clearly don't... And we're not really used to it.

If it meant we can play Di Maria in the same role he played at Madrid last year I'd instantly drop Mata in favour of him

Certainly gives us an attack up there with any other team in the country.

VP, Rooney, Mata, Di Maria and Janzaj?
That's a ridiculous selection of talent.

We just need to get through today's game with our massive injury list with a win, and we're not quite as ruined as we all feared last week!

Real are on another level to be fair. They're selling their best player of last season because they decided to smash £61m on a player who had a good WC. It's so utterly muppet that it's making the fans angry when they sign these players.

Some people are happy if they can moan. How strange that it may sound.

As I said in another thread, even with di Maria our net spend since 2002 is only around £330m.

Real Madrid? ~£670m
Chelsea? ~£580m
City? ~£550m (between 2002-2008 they were actually in plus..)

We could buy Vidal for £50m and another defender for £30m and still be comfortably behind
