Would the signing of ADM be the best of this transfer season? Topping over Sanchez, Costa, Fabregas and Suarez?

Would you lot credit Ed's effort?

It's so weird. We are about to sign Di Maria and people are moaning about price? How often is it we buy a player of his rare quality years before their prime? Never? Just enjoy it you freaks.

Where's Drummer to tell us it's just PR?

He's worth more to us than Bale was worth to Real Madrid last season, or Suarez to Barcelona this summer.

He'll do wonders for our team, he brings quality in a number of positions we're lacking, he brings pace that we sorely lack and hopefully - he'll bring confidence.

We actually need him, as far as I'm concerned some of the other transfers of a similar fee were nothing more than luxury signings for glamor and vanity. At 26 we should be getting the best years out of him.

It's expensive but it'll be more than worth it as far as I'm concerned.
Yup. I don't care if we needed to go up to 80m for him, we had to do all we could to get him, and the price is £54m + £10m in add ons if we win everything soon pretty much, which we won't but if we do it's mean he was more then worth it. We simply needed to buy him whatever the price IMO.

You've got to love the Caf sometimes, while the price is very high people on here have been bitching all summer about how Chelsea/Madrid just waltz in, slam big money on the table, and get their man, while Woody et al dither around over a few million. We're about to break the British transfer record for a world-class player about to enter his prime, and suddenly it's a problem.
There'll be bitching about everything the club does until they start winning matches. Understandably, within reason.

This is just unbelievable. If we missed out on Di Maria the same people who are saying we spent too much would be blaming the Glazers for not spending the money. It would be Hazard all over again.

Depends if we manage to get some CM in. If we do, then I'll be more than content with what we've done in the window I guess.

The only reason I'm slightly pissed off about the price is that it once again highlights Woody's awful negotiation skills. Over paying for bloody everyone!

Although, he's easily worth £20m more than Ozil, and £25m less than Bale sounds about right.

Soooo the Ronaldo money will finally be spent! Di Maria will become a United legend amazing signing.

The Ronaldo money has been spent paying over the odds for players like Young, Jones and Valencia. Not to mention Fellaini and, to some extent, Mata.

Would mean the signing of Shaw was pointless!
I believe he'll play as a winger or an advanced left sided midfielder. I honestly don't see him as a wingback ever, would be a waste of his talents!

The beauty of Di Maria is his versatility, he can play centrally and wide in the midfield, and he could play the wing-back role too 100%

You know that income and EBITDA are two very different things right?
Would you rather less money be spent on someone who isn't as good as him? This club has bought far too many average players because we didn't want to fork out extra for a better player. A world class player is currently available, we seem to be close to signing him, and after all the moaning about Glazers not spending, people (not you directly) still find a way to moan.

I know Ozil has been somewhat underwhelming at Arsenal but I think some of the comments about him are silly

At least if we make this signing, we can finally say Ed put his money where his mouth is at last.

It could become a thing...maybe eventually it will be a fashionable trend for fans to grow mullets over the transfer window. Players might even start doing it too, as a signal they want to leave or something.
If you can give yourself a tag line, please please please make it:

Hectic
Advocates mullets.

We don't sign players- " Glazers are not spending money at all"

We sign a player for 60 odd million- "Glazers, WTF?? 60m for a player??.. Seriously??.."

We moan about him trying to negotiate a lower price and say ''just pay the fecking money'' and then when we do pay the money we are pissed off.

The Caf will never change.

 Jesus, I'm not bitter at all. It's just amazing that these 'lol, he snubbed Madrid to play for us' fantasies didn't take a bit more time to pop up.

I'm sad to see him go but I said this yesterday, I hope he does well for you guys.
Guys are joking, can't you see that?

Agreed. Real fans were probably even more upset at him leaving and 60/70% United fans wanted to sign him despite not needing him. Same with Mata and comments regarding him using hindsight.

Now that is better than Woodward, we need a world class winger and he fits the bill . Now a CM signing will too off a very good summer in the end

I don't know about you lot, but he is WAY overpriced. Among many reasons why he is not worth it is because He is not a match winner like Suarez/Ronaldo, if you are going to pay over the top-do it for the right player. Ma any club would pay is £56 including add-ons.

I might be in a minority here, but if Di Maria does not play well-it will bite us the back big time.
Alright so scoring 4 goals against Norwich is a big game match winning performance while running the show in the Champions league final isn't. Very Clever.

At least if we make this signing, we can finally say Ed put his money where his mouth is at last.

I still wouldn't credit him that much. This is an opportunistic signing, just like Ozil, Mata etc and there was basically no competition.

I am not denying him any credit, but I am not sure if we had ADM in the radar when he gave the interview.

Nah, not really. Even less so when you look at it over a 3 year spell.

And even if you somehow argue in muppetry he is better how much better ?
What? He is on a different level to the without a doubt because of everything he brings to the team. We have enough players who can score goals, we need a player who can run with the ball, dribble with it and make things happen for the other players. Di Maria is probably the best player in the world when it comes to that, and one of he hardest working stars. Absolutely worth whatever we pay.

Feel like Johnny Sack in the Sopranos when he tells Tony that his daughter's wedding cost $420K. Sack says: this is why we work hard, to spend it on things like this.

All of the running around getting commercial deals is to have the cash needed for something like this. United have the money (reported EBITDA as of March is £130M, and will go up even without CL this year) and need quality. Can't wait to see Di Maria in a United shirt.

After all those 'Jesus Woody just throw money at wc players and they'll come' people are now moaning after Woody has finally did that, threw the money.

Some people. O tempora o mores.

I'd rather a CEO who negotiates well to buy world class players, my worry is, we will need heavy investment next year too and whatever we spend this year will have a direct impact on our outlay next year, hence I said I'd prefer us to not overpay but I do get where you and many other posters are coming from. I think it really boils down to me not rating him half as highly as you guys do. The Di Maria i saw play plenty a year or two ago was never a match winner and the times I saw him last year, he just looked a very good player to me but let's see who's right when he starts playing for us.

Couldn't give a rat's arse about the transfer fee. He's fecking class.
