For those who think it's Ancelotti's decision to keep Di Maria out of the first 11 - Do you think it was Ancelotti who said 'Mr Florentino, we need that James guy because we only have Ronaldo, Bale, Di Maria and Benzema for the attacking third'? Carlo would have never bought him if it was down to him. He receives his team sheets with names on it. And offering Di Maria a lazy contract is what Madrid do in such situations, i.e. turn the public against the player.

It's ridiculous what I'm reading about Di Maria not being in the top 10 of Madrid's earners. Ancelotti would have never got rid of Di Maria if it was his choice, nor would he ever bought James simply because they didn't need him. He (Ancelotti) is the perfect fit for Madrid and I said it all along. Mourinho wouldn't be fecked about like that but Carlo will. Not an uncompromising type. He isn't daft but he is a bit of a puppet. And yes - Di Maria is good enough to start in their 11 week in week out, more than good enough in fact. The fact he doesn't play has nothing to do with Ancelotti.

So Ancelotti does have some say then. I fully expect to see Di Maria playing for Madrid next season, as Ancelotti seems to want.
He has a certain amount of say and it is said that he was in contact with perez before taking the job and gave the go-ahead on signing isco, illarimendi and bale (although I m pretty sure bale was non-negotiable and perez was going to make it no matter what and james was the same this year). I hope di maria stays but I would be very surprised if he did. Ancelotti said he asked to leave and seems to be getting irritated with journalists asking about him.

Can't see us sticking with a 3-5-2 if we sign Di Maria, I think we'd move to a 4-3-3.
I fully expect us to go 4-3-3 in the long run regardless. And I think that will happen as soon as Carrick and Shaw are fit.

Galactico or no galactico signings Di Maria wants out it seems and who can blame him.
What do you mean? That he wants to leave because he is not being offered enough money or because Madrid keep signing players that play in his position or in a similar position?

I hope we switch to a diamond. Play Di Maria in his hybrid winger/midfielder role.

He played a diamond when he first went to Bayern and only changed when he had Ribery and Robben for the wings therefore I can see this happening.

And SAF confirmed that Rooney once wanted to leave.

Think they've spent too much money on players to bench them thankfully. It's Madrids own greed that has lost them a player..hopefully :)

This is so on. If it really was just about signing a new contract then why would his wife ONLY like United Insta pics but overlook the PSG Insta pics? Come on! We're signing this guy

This won't end anytime soon, Real will keep pushing to get their desired price.
Yup, just like Ozil.

IF we're really interested in him, we might as well pay up what they're asking and get him here ASAP. It will really lift the atmosphere around the club.

I'd guess, whoever can agree personal terms(hopefully us) would have a little more liberty to negotiate few days more and see if Real will budge. That's how negotiation would work I presume.

I don't think so. If PSG are ruled out and we are only team in for him, then we might have a good chance of lowering the price a bit, especially since he wants to leave.

Which is why i think this will be delayed a bit more, sensing no danger from other teams we will negotiate further to get the price down. Real on the other hand won't be in a hurry as they are not desperate to sell at a lower price.

I don't consider myself a transfer muppet but I found it odd that the titles changed, is there actually a reason to do with the possible transfer or just on a whim?

Its usually on a whim. Unless there's a something substantial such as he's flown to Manchester for a medical (relax muppets), or he's pledged his future to Madrid, then there's really no reason to change the title.

This place would be hilarious if Chelsea were to snap him up from under your nose, preferably after he passed his medical.

All this after we gave you Ronaldo! You lot should be willing to lower your price for Di Maria as a goodwill gesture

People here keep talking about Di Maria and his impact on Januzaj's development. They are NOT battling each other for a position. I will also talk a little about where Di Maria fits, and is not a "luxury item" like Mata.

LVG wants to build for the future (near) and ultimately wants to play a 4-3-3 formation, but he does not have the right "specialist attackers", i.e a winger. LVG even specifically noted "Di Maria and Ronaldo". As you can tell, he is already building 'his team' buy hopefully buying Di Maria. At Bayern Munich he played 4-4-2 because of the players he had at his disposal, and so when he brought in one player, Robben, he changed the whole system to 4-3-3. A similar thing here with Rooney/RVP/Mata needing to play AND not having that top class specialist winger forced LVG to play this way (3-5-2/5-3-2). Thus, I see LVG making that 'Robben move' by buying Di Maria and changing the while system to 4-3-3 as he has that specialist winger. Again, we all know that LVG will stick by his principles and his philosophy, so I see him not hesitating one bit to drop RVP/Rooney; if that means the whole squad plays better-then he will do whatever it takes. If they don't like it, they can sod off.(which they won't as no one is willing to pay £250k every week).

This brings be to the next point, Januzaj and Di Maria will then play in opposite wings. That is what will eventually happen. However, LVG may stick to a 3-5-2 because he still eels he does not have the right players, will it still harm Januzaj's development?

How is that so? The only positions Di Maria can play is ST, CM and LWB. Januzaj can only play in ST, AM(NO.10, which is his preferred psition-he said so in an interview. However, I don't think he will play there until Mata leaves or LVG brings another special right-sided winger) and RWB. Now, they both won't play as ST because Rooney and RVP are covering both striker position. Di Maria will play in CM and Januzaj in no.10 position so how do they collide there? RWB and LWB are two different positions again.

Another thing is, what is beautiful about having Di Maria and Januzaj is we now can switch to another system (from 3-5-2 to 4-3-3) and still be effective! We will have the quality on the wings, the opposition will not know what hit them! It will be too much for the opposing team to switch their shape and mark different people. We will have plan A and Plan B which are both as effective, while the opposition will only have plan A. The opposition can change, but like at Swansea, when we switched system-we scored a goal. Herrera leaving changed the game. Imagine if we did not have Nani, but Di Maria on the wings in 4-3-3 system, it would be even better!

So, Di Maria coming to Man utd will do no damage at all to Januzaj's development! Januzaj and Di Maria in the same team will actually enhance the team so much much.

Di Maria and Januzaj on the wings have the potential to absolutely destroy teams, these two can do pretty much everything. They can also both play left and right. I think we deserved it after the years we had to put up with Valencia and Young.

Did we ever had 2 first choice left footed wingers?

The cheek!

Di Maria would probably be the first top class payer we'd have ever signed from you lot, while you have signed Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy and Beckham from us. Show some respect. :p

Bloody right we do. Mental torture is definitely something I'd use to describe the past two seasons with those two starting for us. Di Maria and Januzaj would be a substantial improvement.

Deadline day written all over it, hope we get it sorted by the time we face Burnley.

Exactly, about time some money came rolling this way! ;)

Rojo, Shaw, Di Maria, Januzaj, Mata, RVP

Potentially 6 left footers in a starting 11 would be unusual.

I'm sure some of those technically gifted players are considered two footed

Di Maria is just a bit more skilled than Valencia!
