Listen for noises eminating from the outskirts of Yaounde.......innit. Madre mia.

Classic grass is always greener attitude. This is a gamble no matter what anyone says.

The argument goes like this: Onana is a superior distributor of the ball, which in turn will lead to vastly superior finishing on the opponent's goal. Martial and Sancho will go from shite to outstanding. Antony wasn't exactly shite last season, but with a new keeper Antony will develop a right foot. And with those three on fire, we will be at least in the conversation for a proper PL title challenge. If this is valid reasoning, then it's a no-brainer to get rid of De Gea and bring in Onana. (Fukking spell check...it's not Obama!)

If you've been watching us play for the last few years, and watching how teams like City, Liverpool, Barca and Bayern have played in that time, and you still can't imagine how much we might improve by having a keeper who can calmly play the ball out and build attacks rather than aimlessly punting the ball to an opposition player on the halfway line half of the times he gets it, I don't know what to tell you.

Keep building your strawman higher though, by all means.

Of course it's a gamble. Any transfer is. But using the gambling analogy, I'd say the odds are very strongly in the favour of Onana being a significant improvement. It's not a guarantee, but if we wait until it's a 100% certainty the club would never make a transfer.
Yep - I’m excited just wary.

Every signing is a gamble. Keeping De Gea is a surefire failure. Onana is a better goalkeeper in almost every aspect. De Gea may be able to make a few crazy saves that no other can make, but he (statistically) makes more mistakes than others with his shot stopping too. So on the whole, Onana should improve us there too.

Getting a vastly better player who fits the manager is as far away from a risky signing as you can get. There is always risk, but worst case he is still an improvement on de Gea for our team at a younger age and at a lower wage.

I’m sure it’s been mentioned already, but based on his performance in Creed III I’m expecting him to be very dominant in the box.

(He looks so much like Jonathan Majors!)

Those tears are rather salty.

Seems like all parties want this done quickly which is great to see. If we can complete 3 signings by the end of July (Mount, Onana and say Hojlund) that'd be great. Then another one in August and you'd think that's about as much as we can afford this summer.

This will get done. We’re actually going all out for ETH 1st choice targets because they know he’s the right man to bring us back to the top.
It's as obvious as it has been.

My evaluation of ETH is, he's one of the most sober football fan then a very good football manager and tactician. All the fears I had especially after January 2023 performances have now be extinguished.
He knows where our problem lies, and he's very sober in finding solutions to it.
With how he has moved in this window, I can put my balls on the line for the guy.
People were crying for a striker as a priority, as a do or die signing, but I said it here we need to change the structure of the team first either through coaching or new personnel, and the new players needed to be players, who can stay with the football at feet under pressure for 5-10 seconds.
Give him time, all these pseudo footballers he have been having at our club will be out in 18 months, that's when people will understand what it is having genuine footballers all over the pitch.

Just compare the drastic change in Martinez vs Maguire, DDG vs Onana, give Mount a chance you will see midfield turnovers which we have been suffering from every game will go down immediately.
See how Antony stays with the ball under pressure that's the basic for a United player, the rest can be coached.
We are in safe hands best believe. Even the club has probably seen and felt it.

I thought the argument was a bit simpler than that. More like: we’ll stop launching the ball upfield to no-one every time our keeper gets the ball.

He will be called an outfield player the first goal he concedes.

this deal is as good as done with it seemingly a 5m differential.....he's more athletic that DeGea, he's better with his feet so the biggest thing will be the willingness to come off his line to take crosses.

So as I guessed earlier today's bid to be rejected. We just need to increase 5 mil like with Mount.

Should be done within a week at most

Get in. This will be the most noticeable upgrade we could have made this summer to our play style, and a huge step forward for Ten Hag IMO.

Say good bye to goalkeeper rooted to his line on every single cross or ball in behind, say good bye to useless build up play, say goodbye to collapsing when pressed... Say hello to occasionally/rarely getting the sweeping wrong but preventing so many other chances and just controlling games so much better now, say hello to becoming a press resistant team in possession, say hello to higher defensive lines and better team pressing as a result.

Leads to better control of games, more consistency, more dominance, less fatigue as it's not end to end always.

Such an important signing because of what it represents off the pitch. Long time since we have been this ruthless with underperforming players. Maguire relegated to 5th choice, AWB dropped then put back in the team and now De Gea basically released.

Good timing with that comment, just had the all clear from cancer this week. Haha

Wow, huge man! So happy for you! Was reading through club sale thread and feeling the usual semi-depression coming on, but reading this I'ma just close all tabs and feel good for you. Thanks!
