I have a feeling we will get this done by early next week.

The sources are reliable and we seem extremely close on price.

Talk talk talk. How hard is it to haggle over 5m, could be done in two minutes over whatsapp

Think it’ll be same as Chelsea now. Add ons to guaranteed price with stupidly hard add ons to buff it up to 55m

Inter are going to get what they want, and based on Mount now that United will not walk away.

It's going to be 50 million euro's fixed, 5 million euro's add-ons to seal the deal.

Yet we paid what we wanted to pay £55M & sealed the deal to get it over the line (5M add ons) which secured (multiple trophies) then we’re all really happy.

This might be tongue in cheek, but I genuinely don't know why clubs don't do stuff like this more. Just stay on a Teams/zoom call until either a deal is made or you mutually agree to stop talks.

I'm sure there's a reason they don't do that (except on deadline day perhaps) but it seems so many talks are made over weeks when in the end they both agree the price everyone knew they would agree anyway

This is a massive signing. Regardless whether this is good or bad for you personally, Onana changes the way we play completely. That 7-0 against Liverpool doesnt happen if we have a keeper on the front foot. That Sevilla game doesnt happen either.

IF we suceed in having Onana quickly, it means that we may have him and Mount before the preseason and it can be a very good point.

Also knowing that the rest of the sales may fund part for a striker.

My hope is we can wrap up this deal this week, and get a deal wrapped up for Hojlund to have our 3 key signings onboard for the tour.

It may take awhile to implement but imagine us playing it with ease out from the back and actually beating a press

Much as I like DDG, the 2nd half of last season really hit home just how badly we need a keeper who can distribute and come off this line

Dare I say it. Murtough doing a good job.
Honestly feel like Murtough, on the whole, has done a relatively decent job but he's basically doing the job with one hand tied behind his back because of the Glazers. I don't think any respectable DOF comes into the job without any issues because of them

None of our batterings happen in the same way. We may still lose badly on occasion of course, but our batterings last season (xG wise batterings at least to include the Arsenal game) happened because of completely incompetent build up play straight from the back. They shut down the first phase what de Gea could do and he couldn't vary it up and it led to just constant turnovers, relentless attacking.

A goalkeeper who can also normally deal with crosses will be quite the sight.

I agree. Think him and Arnold are doing fairly well considering.

Keep seeing this but what about when we’re clinging onto a single goal lead (80% of wins last year) and Dave saves the day. May not happen as much with this guy. Huge gamble IMO.

Yes because De Gea is the only keeper who can make a save

You’re absolutely right. I hadn’t stopped to consider that DDG is the only keeper in the world capable of pulling off a late save in a game.

Doesn't happen very often with De Gea anymore either. He really doesn't make many saves that any decent keeper doesn't make these days. Or to be more exact, he still makes a few over the course of the season, but they are almost entirely balanced out by him letting in soft goals that he should have stopped.

There's a reason that, both by eye and by stats, De Gea's shot-stopping has only been slightly above average for four and a half of the last five seasons (the first half of 21/22 being the outlier where he briefly returned to previous glory). He's not bad, but he's also not particularly good anymore either.

Isn't that the basic job of any keeper? to make saves?

Also... he may not make the world class saves DDG can make but we will keep the ball better, meaning he will have less to do, numerous times last season DDG gave the ball away and we were under attack.

If we have the ball, the opponent can't shoot.

He will have less to do, and also we will score more ourselves

We don't lose against Brighton either. De Gea's terrible pass to Eriksen and his passion to give it back to the opposition put us in a terrible situation. Now of course, depending on which defender is playing that type of goalkeeper is going to contribute to goals or opportunities for the opposition.

Yep. I know DDG fans say he makes WC saves and keeps us in games but I think 18/20 keepers make match winning saves when teams are winning 1-0. Its not new to see keeper make saves, DDG may have made 4/5 saves that other keepers wouldn't last season but he also made 5/6 big mistakes that other keepers wouldn't either.

Then there is his cross collection which is non existent

His passing out the back is non existent.

We cannot have a keeper that makes 4/5 world class saves a season as his only strength.

Come on! I can't wait to get a goalkeeper that is actually comfortable on the ball, sweeps and builds from the back.

I don't give a shit about some feck-ups here and there. We already have that with De Gea, but without all the other positives with Onana.

I've seen a lot of Onana and all I can say is that he's a huge gamble. His catching technique is inconsistent and ends up dropping a lot of easy balls when he's making saves. He keeps palming or punching the ball back to the center and creates many dangerous situations. He's excellent in the air and his distribution is second to none so in that area he is a big improvement from De Gea.
