Will be big if they can get him in and ready to play a few preseason games.

I've seen a lot of Onana and all I can say is that he's a huge gamble. His catching technique is inconsistent and ends up dropping a lot of easy balls when he's making saves. He keeps palming or punching the ball back to the center and creates many dangerous situations. He's excellent in the air and his distribution is second to none so in that area he is a big improvement from De Gea.

DDG was never strong with punching and he recently began palming into dangerous areas.

This might be tongue in cheek, but I genuinely don't know why clubs don't do stuff like this more. Just stay on a Teams/zoom call until either a deal is made or you mutually agree to stop talks.

I'm sure there's a reason they don't do that (except on deadline day perhaps) but it seems so many talks are made over weeks when in the end they both agree the price everyone knew they would agree anyway

"We want to buy Onana, we'll offer £40m"
"feck off, we want £70m"
"We'll give you £50m"
"Nah mate, piss take. £60m"
"£55m?"
"Deal"

All done in 5 minutes.

I would say so. Pedulla has been very good thus far on this prospective deal and along with Di Marzio they've been ahead of the pack when it comes to relaying news surrounding Serie A clubs. Di Marzio (Sky Italia) in particular is very well connected in Serie A.

Sweet, will follow him on this then, thanks!

I agree.

If it were Kane, then I think he would be priority. A budding striker that isn't going to guarantee goals. Definitely has to be second to a proper GK.
Not just that. Having gotten a GK, ETH would be able to freely talk to the media about needing a striker, and Glazers would be looking as idiots not buying one (entire world knows we need one after Wout Weghorst loan).
It wouldn’t work in the opposite direction - need for a GK is less obvious for larger audience

Keep seeing this but what about when we’re clinging onto a single goal lead (80% of wins last year) and Dave saves the day. May not happen as much with this guy. Huge gamble IMO.

"Dave saves the day"

Those have been few and far in-between. Most of those "Dave saves the day" saves are of his doing when he passes it to the other team and they hit us on a break. Dave definitely didn't save the day in the FA Cup Final. He blundered it. 62% of his passes in that went to Citeh and the 1 save he should have made he blundered it.

I would imagine, negotiations will never be a quick first contact type of thing...unless you offer something utterly ridiculous.

United seem to be targeting players that are available for that middle price range and then first offering under valuation, followed a week later with a middle ground offer.

From the outside knowing nothing about the process...I can say I'm impressed with this approach and it shows to me anyway the club is improving behind the scenes.

Even if Onana is a flop it will mean progress because you can't move forward by staying still and keeping De Gea around. I know it's difficult for some to grasp but a GK must be a good footballer as well as stop and prevent goals in a team with a head coach who places emphasis on initiating attacks from the back. And with the EPL being more and more centred around pressing from the front, it's essential we move forward and attempt to play front foot dominant football.

This will get done. We’re actually going all out for ETH 1st choice targets because they know he’s the right man to bring us back to the top.

I've been a fan of this lad since I first saw him at Ajax, can't wait for this to get done.

Looking forward to this signing , going to be different from what we are used to.

Those have been few and far in-between. Most of those "Dave saves the day" saves are of his doing when he passes it to the other team and they hit us on a break. Dave definitely didn't save the day in the FA Cup Final. He blundered it. 38% of his passes in that went to Citeh and the 1 save he should have made he blundered it.

Even if their statement was correct, it could be countered in saying that we could now score more goals since we can play out of the back effectively.

Really hope this gets over the line (looks like it!).

will be a great signing

Classic grass is always greener attitude. This is a gamble no matter what anyone says.
Of course it's a gamble. Any transfer is. But using the gambling analogy, I'd say the odds are very strongly in the favour of Onana being a significant improvement. It's not a guarantee, but if we wait until it's a 100% certainty the club would never make a transfer.

This signing alone will lead me into the new season with at least some hope.
He will change our build up so much. It seriously cannot be overstated how huge of a move this will be.
