I’ve talked myself into this move. For someone who didn’t really care about Onana a week ago I’d be crushed if this didn’t go through
I'm fully on this one, it transforms the way we play like no other position. Without this signing the Mount one is destined to fail. We can work the striker situation out for another season but we have to get this done if we don't want more of the same shite we served up last season.

Really excited by this signing. I haven't watched him loads but I know he was highly rated whilst at Ajax and then watching him in the champions league final was a real breath of fresh air. Comparing his performance in that final to David De Gea in our FA cup final against the same opponents was night and day difference.

He will make a HUGE difference to the way we play, probably the biggest change possible to make in a single signing to be honest.

So, safe to bet he's going to be ours. I guess it's a matter of hours/days til we agree a deal.

As someone who genuinely doesn't give a feck about athletes taking PEDs, it's good to see nobody really cares that this chap got done.
We do have a form for it though Rio, Fred and now Onana If we ignore the flimsy defense .

If you want it done without overpaying let them do their job. They are not instantly going to agree to a lower offer.

Both sides want a quick resolution in this case. We want our new GK through door in time for pre-season games. Inter want to sell to get cash to comply with FFP and develop their squad. I’m sure if they just sat on a Zoom call they could negotiate something within an hour.

Inter got him for free last year? what the feck were we doing?

We were in limbo with no idea of who our next manager would be and still had an immovable De Gea under his silly contract. If we had hired ETH straight after Ole, we probs would have got him for free.

You've never accidentally taken a diuretic because you thought it was a paracetamol? I find that hard to believe.

Does it? 39m versus 60m is a bit of a difference.

It’s £39m vs €60m, don’t fool for this media exaggerating of the figures using different currencies.

Realistically it’s €45m vs €60m

It’s standard negotiation. Inter name a price above their actually asking price, knowing we will low ball first offer and then meet in the middle.

Same as what happened with Mount. Chelsea name a stupid price of £70m, we went in initially at £40m. Eventually settled on £55m.

Onana to Inter confirmed on 2nd July 2022. Ten Hag was appointed as Utd manager on 21st April 2022.
Plenty of time to save him from Lukaku.

No the contract starts in July but he agreed on a deal way earlier than that. The rumour of a deal being done started in early November 2021 and was confirmed by reliable sources in early January, keeping in mind that free agents are free to negotiate with clubs from January 1st.

Here you have the deal announced by RMCsport.

Arsenal came close to signing him in the summer of 2021 according to reports. And Inter were hanging around in case Arsenal pulled out of the deal so they could then sign Onana on a free because they couldn't pay what Ajax wanted. And as it turned out, Arsenal were quoted €15m for Onana but they wanted to pay €7m. And in the end they didn't follow up on signing him due to his ban and instead bought Ramsdale. Arteta and Edu have been targeting Ajax players for a few years now and after near misses with Onana and Martinez, it seems like they've got Timber.

And with Arsenal pulling out, it gave Inter the opportunity to agree a pre-contract with the player in January 2022 after being in discussions with the player since October 2021 per reports.

Our style of play next season is gonna look so much better just by the additions we’re going after. ETH getting his first choice targets will help.

Really have to get this one done. With the way the game has evolved, there’s so much more to being a keeper than being a shotstopper. Onana allows us to open up the channels and vastly improves our distribution. Creates more space for our forwards, makes the defense spread out to avoid the long passes, and in turn takes pressure off our back line. A striker is a must at some point, but this would be a fantastic fix to one of our most dire areas of need

Considering his international retirement, does Onana get enough points for work permit ?

I'm off work in 15 minutes. Hopefully United will make an improved bid in that time.

Can’t for the life of me figure out why anyone who’s a United fan would want to sign Kane. About to turn 30, and any transfer is going to cost big money while he signs a 4-5 year deal. Assuming his injury issues don’t pop up again, we’re getting maybe 2 more elite seasons out of him. Maybe. And then you’re bound to someone for another 2-3 years on high wages who United once again can’t re-sell.

If he was the last piece we needed, I’d 100% be onboard, but with us needing a new keeper, more midfield depth, and possibly a new CB, I’d rather patch all of those holes than dump it all on one man.

Alfredo Pedulla has been really good regards the news on this prospective deal thus far. And again today he reported the below information over 4 hours ago before everyone else.

United wants to buy and has the money, Inter wants to sell and needs the money, Onana wants to move to United. I really can't see this deal not happening at some point during the next hours or days.

So we should basically keep track of this dude then for reliable updates?
I would say so. Pedulla has been very good thus far on this prospective deal and along with Di Marzio they've been ahead of the pack when it comes to relaying news surrounding Serie A clubs. Di Marzio (Sky Italia) in particular is very well connected in Serie A.

They all count, especially when De Gea played a part in why those games blew out like that. Perhaps not City (although the 2nd goal might have been cleared by a keeper better under the high ball), but certainly the other two.

Brentford - 1st goal was 100% De Gea's fault to an embarrassing extent. 2nd goal because of a De Gea hospital pass to Eriksen. Some people probably blame him for the 3rd but I think that's harsh myself, but there's a fair chance a sweeper keeper would stop the 4th by cutting out the pass.

Liverpool - Should have saved the 1st IMO. While the 3rd and 7th aren't 'mistakes', they are ones he definitely could have done better. 6th either falls in the same category or is an outright mistake, I'm 50/50 on that one.
i wasn’t making points against your statement, just adding information. I’m fine replacing him but still appreciate his time here.
