I felt a bit unsure/or not totally confident in this transfer.

I've heard a lot about him, (the good and the bad).

When having watched him though in the Champions League for Ajax and Inter, particularly the final this year. I have come away impressed.

My uncertainty has stemmed from I think what can be best described as a subconscious stereotype.
With the greatest respect and sensivity, it's the point that how many top class or world class keepers has there been over the years who are of an African background?

(For example of another stereotype I've grown up woth, being of a South Asian background, is that at the highest level in football athletically South Asians ultimately aren't as good as other races).

In truth, there is perhaps an element of fact about it but it's probably due to different reasons altogether and nothing to do with any race having particular limitations.

I think Onana even touched upon it himself, when he said something along the lines of that when a black/African goalkeeper makes a mistake it's highlighted more.

Him and Maignan from Milan, are certainly changing the stereotype for me.

Hopefully United sign him and he kills the stereotype once and for all.

(FYI - I have tried to make this post as politely as I can, and sincerely mean no offence. I've read my post back and couple of times and do think I am making a somewhat valid point. Fellow posters please advise me if I am wrong and I'll delete this post).
I understand what you're saying, but let's take a look at other examples.
Like Kim Min Jae, when was the last time a we have a centerback from Asian country who can be considered world class? He was the first and nobody brings up that Asia never produce world class centerback. And nobody would have any objection if United bought him.
Football becoming more global in the last 20 years and stereotypes are becoming more meaningless everyday.

Is this the same keeper that was banned for taking his wife’s slimming tablets . Or was it another keeper.

Absolutely, which is interesting because it suggests we don't need a 30 goal a season striker, just someone who can hold the ball up and bring the wide men in, which is ultimately what I think we'll get this summer.
What suggests that?

surely, if this is the GK choice, we are going to finalise today/this weekend. We are letting DDG walk on a free (today) and have stopped Heaton from leaving. There's surely, no possible way, we get to pre-season/return to club training with Heaton just hanging around as No.1

There definitely won't be any shortage of chants if we do manage to sign him.
For me that 2 Eivissa dance song Oh la la la:
Onana na na na na
Onana na na.

Really hoping we get this tied up quickly. Him and Mount in before preseason will be an excellent start

You should read Soccernomics. Goes over this pretty well as there are always biases at play, it wasn't long ago that in England, being a black would be a weakness in being a defender as they "lacked concentration". On the other hand there's plenty of positive biases as well - South American players deemed more cultured and skillful. Ultimately, in the age of data and gaining competitive advantage for least amount of investment, we'll see a lot of these biases be smashed to pieces. There's a long way to go, but the more people like yourself become self aware about biases, the more likely stereotypes will be dispelled.

What you choose to believe and what you are told to believe is the difference between the perpetuation of said stereotype (read bigotry), or eradication of it.

Had we been deep in negotiations with Costa you can guarantee it would have been a flood of posts about his errors in the world cup...
His performance against the scousers too

Either way, you'll rarely get a signing with the cafs overall consensus approval

Even the Casemiro and Lisandro signings had quite the share of doubters last summer

Yep.

I really think Onana will transform us anyhow, he's more important than a striker for me personally.

Excited about this one. I like to be entertained when watching football, and Onana is as entertaining as goalkeeping gets.

He will 100% concede 2/3 daft goals a season by getting caught on the ball or running too far out of position. And the caf will freak out every time. But those goals are a very cheap price to pay for the transformative effect he will have on what we can do with our 10 outfield players.

I'm really excited that we're looking at a keeper who can get things moving from the back, but I do have concerns about his actual keeping in the PL. Hopefully he'll be great in that department too though! Just watching some of his videos and it feels like he gets away with the slower pace in Serie A, where a lot of the shots he just palms away would come back at him fast in the PL and he doesn't really seem to bother reacting much after the initial save.

50m EUR is about 42m GBP. Not terrible

I know it’s compilations but even in his positive videos he doesn’t seem confident in grabbing the ball. It’s hard to explain but he looks jittery to me.
You can see it when he dives for the ball either side. He seems to try and trap it with his body after getting to it rather than plucking it from the air.
But, playing out from the back seems to trump those moments and nobody knows him better than Ten Hag

I'd be really happy if we can get this over the line in the next couple of days too. Excited by what he can do for us and our build up.

Same story as yesterday. Nobody else reporting anything other than interest.
There's a lot of chat online (confirmed by Trubin's agent) that Inter are talking to Anatoliy Trubin, the Shakhtar keeper. Inter fans aren't happy, they don't want to lose Onana.

A rough Google translation of part of the article below:
Inter are thinking of a revolution between the posts. If in the next few hours, when there will be the first meeting, or in the next few days, Inter will find an agreement with Manchester United for the sale of André Onana, the ceo Marotta, the d.s. Ausilio and his deputy Baccin will plan a real revolution between the poles. They have already moved the first pawns and established contacts, but nothing will happen before Onana's sale. However, the plan is clear: to support a young and promising goalkeeper like the almost 22-year-old Anatolij Trubin of Shakhtar Donetsk, expiring in June 2024, with an expert like the thirty-six-year-old Keylor Navas, also under contract for another 12 months with PSG.
