Don't know much about him. Only seen him in the Champions League final when they lost to Manchester City and he seemed a bit casual, laid back and then a bit erratic.
Hope we aren't signing today's version of Barthez!
God it's crazy how 2 people can watch the exact same thing and see it completely differently! For me he seemed composed, comfortable and absolutely destroyed City's press multiple times to the point where they stopped trying to press him and dropped back as he was taking 4-5 players out with pin point passes through the City lines.

Compare that to De Gea's performance against the same opponents in the FA cup final where he just kicked it long back to City's defence or hoofed it out of play.

I'd like to think a fee for Onana was agreed prior to DDGs announcement rather than DDGs accouncement putting a spanner in the works.
DDGs announcement was likely expected and his departure understood by all concerned.

Well, if that's not the case, then we are in deep sh*t. Inter can now say, we don't want to sell at 43, we want 55-60 as you don't have a goalkeeper and it's what Porto would ask for Costa. We've seen it happen before with United. But I do like to think that we've learned from the past and that the fee is already agreed upon, and they feel Inter will play it nice to wrap this up this week.

On the aspect of world-class saves, I'd input Ederson into the conversation. He doesn't make these type of spectacular De Gea saves, but the fact that he does not face as many shots on goal, and has excellent passing ability, matched with his aerial ability and keeper sweeper, makes him a much better package than De Gea and a perfect fit for City. This is what Ten Hag eventually wants to get with Onana. Sacrifice the world-class save aspect, to gain in the other categories where Onana excels over De Gea, playing from the back being the crucial one.

With all these alleged "talks" with the player, I hope he will not be on a silly salary. But I am not confident of that. Who is the highest paid keeper in PL? Alisson?

Now that DeGea is off the books, I believe it is Alisson yes... DeGea was paid around double what Alisson gets.
There should really not need to be any further discussion about the merit of letting DeGea go, the wages alone were absolutely absurd.

I am not talking about De Gea. We cannot look at De Gea salary and then decide Onana's.

Onana day?

I'm going to the United v Arsenal friendly, it'd be amazing to have this mad bastard in goal for that game.

I dare say this is the signing I’m most looking forward to at the moment. As much as a servant DDG has been over 12 years, a goalkeeper like Onana under a manager like ETH could bring a lot of positives to how we play.

Watching Martinez look so comfortable on the ball at CB has made us look a lot better. I remember Leeds away last season and he came on as a sub, and immediately the passing improved tenfold which lead to winning by 2 goals.

I want to see Onana trying to launch a counterattack kick up field for Rashford to run onto and score of, similar to how fecking Alisson and Salah always do to us.

What is there to make about Solskjaer? Did he play Henderson while De Gea was fit? He did. Which other United manager did that?
What did he achieve by playing Henderson when De Gea was fit, in correlation to what was happening at the likes of City and Liverpool who had developed teams that could build play from the back utilising their Gks in possession to evade the press and break lines to then play a higher defensive line. And once you've achieved that, then the GK is required to sweep up in a higher line.

So when Solskjaer said he wanted to play a high line 'like Jurgen' he should've understood that Klopp's CBs, fullbacks along with Allison as the +1 in possession were far superior to anything he had at United to play a high line like Jurgen. Because to play like Jurgen, players in the first phase of the build up are required to be comfortable on the ball against the opponent's press. Solskjaer went on to sign Wan Bissaka and Maguire for around £150m and followed that up by adding Bruno to a midfield that contained Pogba and then compounded things further by pushing for the Ronaldo signing where it was reported about Solskjaer ignoring the advice of his coaching staff to sign Ronaldo who he felt would make up for his deficiencies out of possession by scoring goals. To play a high line like Jurgen one must first have the vision to know what the purpose is of playing in a high line. And then one must have the coaching capability to instil the vision into the players on the training ground as well as recruit players who fit the vision/play style.

Totally agree! Onana will transform us. And with Hojlund up front we finally have a young promising striker too. Can't wait for the season to start now! Haven't felt that for ages.

I think some journalists mentioned Wednesday/Thursday. But this one is in the bag either way.

When did he say this?

Yup we cut the wage bill down with Ronaldo and DDG done, and it can change the culture of players coming for a pay day of "hes earning this much I want the same" no silly earners in the squad now

Is it just the fee that’s holding this up? How far apart are we from what they want?

Jadon?

Onana and Mount have both have played in Holland :wenger: and had excellent games against city who are the current benchmark in Europe for pressing football. Press resistant players with class on the ball, we should be a lot of fun to watch if we can get someone to start burying chances and pulling central defenders of out of position
