No reason to survive the cull when goalkeepers are cheap to replace. Onwards and upwards.
This. It shouldn't be difficult or expensive to find a competent and reliable goalkeeper, even if unspectacular, as a stop-gap for the next few years while we sort out other positions.

Before we signed him, somebody here called him the Bailly of keepers. Sounds about right.

Average to low performances Occasional brilliance.
Ability to make a complete bonkers of a normal situation at any time.

There is this constant threat of doing something stupid and self sabotage.

He was signed for his ability to be a modern keeper, come out early and negate threats and make good passes and play from the back. Don't think he is particularly good at any of those things.

He's dreadful. Find it hard to believe that some folk still insist he's a decent keeper. How many more ricks does he need to make!?

The next howler is always just around the corner.

Schmeichel, De Gea (at his pre-2018 peak) and Van Der Sar gave your teams that sense of security that you need in a top team. Alisson does this for Liverpool now. You will never get that with his guy.

Forget the third, nothing to be said.

More worrying how De Gea esque he was for their second goal, watched the ball come all the way across his 6 yard box glued to his line

He 's been like this for a while now. If not from the start. He's absolutely terrible at catching a ball that's in the air. He won't or can't do it.

Problematic for a goalkeeper.

The lad's a disaster of a signing. He's the kind that gets managers sacked.

Amorim needs to sort that ASAP.

The Lindelof of keepers.

The 3rd goal is his specialty, every single compilation of his on YouTube is filled with him parrying shit like that.

You just knew how slowly he went down to get that cross he was in trouble.

If the manager is convinced this is the worst Man Utd team, he has to show the courage to drop Onana. After the reserve keeper’s heroics, it’s a no brainer.

I had him on my 'need to replace but not priority' list.

I've changed my mind.

We needed to replace DDG and a well-run club would've done that well before we did and done their due diligence. We've had 18 months of pretty gruesome performances, where a few amazing saves (again in midweek) are interspersed with regular mistakes, a complete failure to command his area (a big factor in our problems defending corners), and little or nothing in terms of the supposed ball-playing talent we were getting.

He's nowhere near good enough to be a PL keeper, even at the, er, top-10 level we're currently at and yet another example of the ETH legacy.

He needs to go in the summer and we need to make a replacement a priority, ideally targeting combining an experienced older keeper (Butland would've done that job) with a younger keeper we can allow to develop (given we're not challenging for a top 4 place anytime soon).

All I want is a tall keeper able to control his box and catch a football. Being able to play 10 yard passes would also be nice

This guy is not gonna make it here and should be sold. Was a stupid transfer all around; why didn't we go for him the year before for free before he went to Inter if ten Hag wanted him I'll never know.

I know we needed to move on from De Gea and buy a new keeper who was comfortable with the ball at his feet but Onana lacks the basics. Gives no one the confidence of stopping anything and always has an absurd mistake in him. If we want to have a modern keeper in goal, go get who both saves shots & can play as a sweeper keeper like Diogo Costa.

We went from having the best No1 (De Gea) & No2 (Romero) in the league (maybe the world) to the worst GK duo in the league. Altay isn't good enough either. God, how I miss Romero now. We definitely need 2 new keepers in the summer. People talk about more pressing issues like wingbacks but I think GK is a position you can never neglect. We can't delay the solution just because we need players in other positions too. This will always come back to haunt us in the most crucial moment until we adress it.

As a bit of positivity, I liked that he stood on that players foot to get him to feck off. We need more of that energy in the team.

I wish people would stop blaming him for his defence being utter garbage and letting him down time and time again, our defenders constantly go missing and most of the time when they do turn up they refuse to actually put a tackle in or close anyone down to stop the opposition getting a shot on goal.

There have been multiple games this season where Andre has been superb and kept us in it (including Saints on Thursday) and without him we would probably be in the relegation zone now.

He can't complain if Altay is given a chance in the PL now. Maybe the competition will remind him that basically throwing the ball in your own net is unacceptable. He basically sucked all the life out of the team today with his mistake, we could've probably salvaged a draw if not for that.

I think most people are blaming him for basically giving them a goal from a situation where there was literally zero danger

Christ, if that isn't the perfect comparison.

I'll admit I was very up for his signing, thought we'd finally got us a real modern keeper who could also do the basics. But he's been very bad.

Good performances here and there sure, but even half the howlers he pulls out would be too much. I'd have replacing him as a priority this summer along with LWB & CF.

If he was the Bailly of goalkeepers, he would have been injured though

I thought the opposite. It was petulant and on another day the VAR team may have called it or something.

Refuses to get physical to clear the space or move his feet on corners, then after being poor in the game decides to step on another player's feet without being particularly sly about it. Beat your chest before the mistakes and shite performance. Don't show 'fight' afterwards.

I love how it's always the defender's fault Onana is so bad and makes mistake after mistake after mistake. I wonder which of those sets is worse?

Smalling, Rojo, Darmian, Shaw, Lindelof, Baily, Young

or

De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot, Mazroui, Yoro, Evans?

Yeah that was a terrible mistake but why didnt De Ligt block the resulting shot?

There's being generous and then there's delusion. Watch the goal again. de Ligt couldn't have predicted the spill and even then he still reacted well enough to try to block/close the space.

I've criticised de Ligt for his performance myself but you can't attribute responsibility on him for that goal.

I've never seen var get involved in something like that, impossible to prove if he meant it or not, him blatantly shoving player is much more likely to he called as a foul. I'm pretty sure he did that before he made the mistake?

He's not the reason we lost today, he's not the reason we're crap and he's not the biggest problem - but he's A problem.

I have defended him because a) plenty of GKs have taken time to settle at United, B), it seemed some people were desperate to blame every goal on him and C) his mistakes haven't really cost us anything of real importance...but the fact is, he's a ticking time bomb. He's got an absolute compilation DVD clanger in his locker every game, and we can't afford it.

You saw the life drain out of the team and the stadium after he handed them that 3rd goal on a plate today. You could watch 1000 Premier League games before you see another basically handling error like that...so long as you're not watching Onana...then it might only be a matter of weeks

The point is not to give VAR a chance to do it. With the reffing in our games this season alone, it's just stupid. He watched the ball roll across his 6 yard box for the second goal.

We've had so many academy keepers over the last few years? None of them are better than this guy? Henderson looks like a proper goalkeeper, not a clown. Kovar is doing fine. What about Vitek or some other lad? Can't we promote someone?

I was also of the same opinion and have also changed my opinion. I assumed once he got acclimatised to the PL the amount of mistakes he would make would reduce, but its got worse again. Simply no consistency.

He cost us the game today. Not that we played that well but he was at fault for staying on his line for the 2nd goal and their 3rd goal I don't want to even talk about. Happened too many times. Never experienced a keeper with so many blunders in him. Aborim just cannot pick him for the coming matches.

We should have just made Dean Henderson our first choice GK. He's comfortably better than Onana.

He didnt cost us the game, claiming he did is just silly
