Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

It's early days really. The sporting press are obsessed with the Bale deal.

AS seem to know the player's version of the story and plan to publish it tomorrow.

El Mundo described the men who went to Liga HQ as lawyers contracted by United, who weren't able to complete the deal. They've not really got into the "imposters" story yet.

The press seem to assume that United played with Herrera, and then decided to sign Fellaini
leaving him high and dry.

This just takes the biscuit, mess this poor lad about and then rumoured we turned down chance of Ozil as well to get Fellaini. This better be worth it Mr. Moyes.

My guess based on various tidbits around the press. We had consulted those lawyers and so had Herrera. When United started to back out of the deal (as too expensive or as not Fellaini enough or whatever) we chickened out and said we couldn't do clause paperwork quickly enough rather than just telling the player that we didn't want to buy him.

The lawyers went off to get the paperwork in order, to see if it could still be done (perhaps with the player's blessing) and when the vital moment came and it was time for the money transfer, we disowned them.

Not imposters in the Radio 1 DJ hoax sense or a group of conmen. Imposters in that they couldn't offer money on our behalf.

I'm not too impressed with United right now.

Someone need sacking for this.

Was it a case of choosing? I don't think so. As you say, they're completely different players who would improve us I'm different ways. I personally think we just got stingy.

Maybe a complete misunderstanding from me but I thought once the Fellaini deal was done and dusted, the negotiation with Herrera went completely to shit. A coincidence ?

No. Poor Herrera was probably the fall back if we didn't get Fellaini, when Herrera should have been Plan A.

Hopefully we get him in the January window. Looks like a class player.

I think that ship will have sailed come January. He will be Cup tied in Europe assuming we qualify from the group stages and God only knows how well we will be doing in January in the league.

Anyone know when we can expect a press conference to confirm Fellaini, going to be a few uncomfortable questions asked.

I still can't get over this really. It was just a shambles by the club, I didn't think anything could outdo the summer so far but it seems it did. Shameful, shameful stuff.

The word embarrassing is actually quite apt now, funnily enough.

I don't know whether it's true or not, hopefully Vato can confirm, but apparently the Ozil deal was done after the Higuain fiasco. Perez gave his word and rejected the overtures of PSG and United, as they were just waiting for the Bale deal to go through before announcing it officially.

But I've also read we were willing to pay 7 million (pounds/euros, I'm not sure) to United's offer of 5 million. How anyone would really know any of this though is probably the real question here.

I thought even if you play in Europa League you will be cup tied? No?

They're not in the Europa League either.

Then again, it's all irrelevant: the way we've treated him on this last day he'll surely never come to us again. And he shouldn't, the lad deserves a better club.

The Glazers/Woodward fecked this up. They did not want to pay the tax on the deal. If they were competent that would have known about this tax when we first bid, instead they messed the player around. I would not be surprised if the player decides not to join us in the future to the this incompetence. We have also alerted other clubs we are after him, and do not be shocked if another club signs him just to show they are a bigger club than us.

We could have taken care of our midfield woes by signing this lad this summer and concentrated on replacing Rio and Evra, in other words our defense, next summer.

We've set a new standard now. I wasn't online at the time but I must have been ridiculous for those who were. I couldn't quite believe what I read when I woke up.

But can't the transfer be agreed right now and go through in January? I've always been under the impression that barring the transfer actually bing affected, everything else can be done outside the window.

I don't know how it works with those Spanish release clauses, when they can be triggered and what it means for the contracts. Bayern triggered Götze's clause long before the transfer window opened, but we just had to pay the money to Dortmund like with a normal club to club transfer. Who knows when the La Liga headquarter is open for transfer business. It doesn't really make a big difference though. You can prepare everything and just make it happen on January 1st, the player can't move before that anyway.

is it true david moyes said " I really like the player but we thought the buy out was the wrong valuation" ???

great so the club and moyes are not prepared to pay an extra lets say around 5 million because his release clause fee was the wrong valuation. thanks david moyes. if you really like the player and you got the money just pay for him.

if you are shopping in the mall and you saw a shirt that you REALLY like, it doesn't matter whether you pay 25 dollars or 30 dollars for it as long as you have enough money in your wallet. for god sake moyes!

feel gutted for the player(who supposedly ready to take a pay cut to join us and the fans of course. nothing against the signing of fellaini here because he will improve us but herrera could well be a great addition to our midfield.

The more I read about this transfer, the more baffled I am.
Did we really want him?
If the guys were not from United , who are they ? Do we really know?
If it is true that we was haggling over a couple of million quid then it is a joke, we are meant to be one of the top 3 richest clubs in the world, this is not the way a club of our standing conducts a transfer.
I don't think it was a smoke screen to force Everton's hand.
I will never be embarrassed at being a United fan, that will never change, but what I am embarrassed at is the way we have conducted our transfers this summer, it has been farcical.
Not only are we the laughing stock of British football because of the idiots running the club, the top clubs are going to be watching how we handle things now and think, there is no way we will do any business with them.
Last night was a stain on United that will take a very long time to be cleaned off.

Yes, it was the night of the million facepalms. :(
Embarassed only at the utter rubbish way that our financial officials have worked throughout the last couple of months, and yesterday was the bloody icing on it. Hate to say it, but 'Cringeworthy' is the word. I see no reason that lot should keep their jobs. They've let the club down.

Yep. Herrera agreeing to pay it himself for me is amazing. In this day and age where players agents squeeze out extra, a player willing to take a cut to force the deal is refreshing to hear. A club subsequently backing out isn't

Indeed, hard not to feel sorry for Herrera in this case. He's doing everything so this deal can go through, doing United a big favor, risking the wrath of his own supporters, only to be fecked by United in the end. Unbelievable. Made me appreciate how good Gill was doing his job

I doubt it, more than likely there are confidentiality clauses signed and his people will be telling him to stay quiet anyway.

Boring :( I would like for him to show us up for the con men we have been this window!

Why would you want something like that to come out ? It could be detrimental to the club's image.

Cant be much worse than it is right now. We are a laughing stock. All down to the Glazers and their henchman Ed Woodward.

I see, isn't still stupid that your fallback option is a completely different type of player than your main target ? What's the logic behind that ?

I think we're giving them too much credit. Herrera wasn't a fallback, our management is not smart enough to even handle what's in front of them properly, let alone plan a fallback option. They probably miscalculated the full amount needed to sign Herrera, given all his contract complications, taxation stuff, baulked at the final figure, and let the deal fall through.

Moyes himself said he needed a couple of players in midfield, so I'm sure he wasn't planning on signing only Fellaini in the summer (aside from the mysterious obsession with Baines). We should just come to terms with the fact that that we screwed up this transfer window royally.

What if it's the other way round? What if Woody is the evil mastermind and the Glazers are actually innocent puppets kept there to draw our flak?

I'd rather know the truth as well

I'd rather not know the truth if it means the club is less ridiculed than it is right now.

They really could be this fecking stupid ? I have no degree in economics but there are some basis we all have no ?

They forgot to include the tax on the deal. Amateurs. What sort of clowns do we have doing these deals?

It's worse, they knew about the 21% tax, and made Herrera to deposit the money to LFP himself so they don't have to pay it. They did however have to pay Herrera income tax as a result, about 4.5m. Herrera then agree to take a paycut so United can pay 4.5m without adding more expense in the deal. I think since it's a 5 year deal, Herrera agree to lower 900k from his yearly salary demand to do this.

The deal breaker however, is because "their release clause valuation didn't meet United's".

Utter disgrace if this is true, and I'm very sorry for Herrera.

Shambolic

So I wonder at what point they came to that abrupt conclusion? You know, given, so much ground work was already completed.

AS have the put the shortform version of the Bilbao/player end of the deal on the website.

http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2013/09/02/primera/1378132861_970112.html

The "impostors" were the lawyers who did the Martinez transfer for Munich. The player and United had been using them as mediators with Athletic.

On Sunday, Martinez thought the deal was dead. Then he got a call saying United were offering 30m + 6m bonuses. Athletic rejected the offer but the player asked his agent to tell United to pay the 6m from the salary already agreed with him. (And presumably to give him the +6m bonuses, if he earned them.)

United gave the deal the go ahead.

The lawyers trotted off to Liga HQ. The player was told we'd be in touch to arrange the medical.

The player sat at home waiting for his medical. The lawyers sat in a bar waiting for United to do the money transfer.

At 11pm United were briefing the press that the lawyers weren't authorised to offer money on their behalf.

I await United's version with interest. And at this moment, disgust.
