Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

No offense to Herrera, as I think he'll be a good signing but he's hardly a signing which will show intent to the world

I think he was one of the most achievable transfers for us this summer. He's not a huge name yet and Bilbao are too small a club (£52m budget in 13/14) to hold onto their players if buyout clauses are paid. Having said that I really respect the way Athletico are run, they'll invest this money well and continue to produce local players with loyalty to the club. Hope they get into the CL.

I don't care what the world thinks, I was responding to your man who was claiming it's a signing which shows intent to the world. Like I said I am very happy with this transfer, I am just stating that it will not suffice, we still have many areas to address and that still includes another midfielder who is at least on Herrera's level if not better.

By all accounts we are still looking to sign another midfielder to compliment him.

I don't get this obsession with all this lightweight bullshit. Mata, Oscar, etc, are all as skinny/lightweight as they come yet they dance around defenders bullying them left right and centre scoring goals and assisting.
You do have a point about there being plenty of small guys who do well in the league, but to be fair Mata does get brushed off the ball very easily and is a bit light weight. Was the same at Chelsea.

Hasn't stopped him from being one of the league's best players, though.

No offense but your post is complete nonsense.

Some people aren't happy unless we're signing a 'name'. Anybody worth their salt would see that he's a huge talent though, but because he's not Fabregas, Bastian or Vidal, he must be underwhelming.

Exactly. Van Gaal likes having a box to box player in midfield and Herrera is the best available option for that. He has all the attributes Van Gaal would desire in that sort of player.

There's no reason not to be happy with this.

Al right elaborate so? RVP is a signing of intent, so was Mata. They are proven world-class players, Herrera isn't at this moment or are you claiming he is? I repeat once again I rate him and I am happy we are signing him but that doesn't mean I see him as the type of signing which will scare the shit out of the opposition. We arguably bought both Arsenal's and Chelsea's best player, that is what I call a "signing of intent."

Thought this would of been announced today. Dithering united once again. Hopefully were get some news on Shaw by the weekend now he's back in England

Let people have their opinions, ¡t is not like he/they are saying something outrageous. We are signing a central midfielder who wouldn't get in to the absolute top clubs and never got a cap for Spain. Madrid and Spain preferred Isco and Modric is better than him, at Bayern he would be their 5h best option as an offensive central midfielder after Thiago/Martinez/Schwein/Kroos, he wasn't wanted and wouldn't get in to Barcelona and so forth.

It is fair to say this signing is a great signing for a club who are struggling to keep up as a top club in England and wants to get closer to the top 3. This signing achieves this, but the likes of Bayern/RM/Barcelona are not going to be very bothered by us making this signing, Herrera's quality isn't at the very top level.

Now I personally believe Herrera has stagnated a bit since being moved to play as an AM and if we either play Herrera and another CM who alternate going forward and backward, or let Herrera take the defensive box to box role then that is a stroke of genius. If Herrera masters the defensive box-to-box role I have no doubts that he is the best DM in the world considering the attributes he has.

He has the tackling and positional sense to do it and his physicality will allow him to get up and down the pitch well, then of course his offensive abilities are unbelievable. As a pure CM, who is covered by a defensively minded midfielder I don't rate Herrera at the level of Modric/Kroos/Thiago/Isco/Wilshere/Martinez/Schweinsteiger and so on but he is still a great step up for us.

Midfield is our weakness and we're halfway to fixing the problem. I'm sure our rivals would rather see us sign a big name striker than see us sort that midfield out.

I agree but surely there is a big difference in signing somebody like Mata who was absolutely amazing for Chelsea since his very arrival here in England and Herrera who still has it all to prove? Wenger's reaction back in January to the transfer of Mata , highlights my point exactly.

Guess this isn't being announced today, seeing as he supposedly arrived over nine hours ago.

Anyone sprechen sie Espagne?

The 3 Stooges are now handling the Herrera deal like last time? Oh god...

TBF this is a bit of a pointless argument. We should focus on strengthening our team and getting the right pieces rather than worrying about what our rivals think or targeting players solely on the basis of their reputation.

Not many people in the league knew of Vidal when Juventus bought him at a similar age yet he's now probably the best CM around. Yaya Toure was considered by some to be a Barcelona reject but he's been perhaps Cty's best player since the move. Last season they bought zero caps Fernandinho from Ukraine and it wasn't a tremor inducing signing either. How many people knew of Dortmund's players before they burst onto the European scene ? There are countless other examples but I'm sure you see where I'm going with this.

We should should stop fixating on the name and trust the judgement of an expert (Van Gaal). If he thinks that Herrera is more suitable to his system than Fabregas or Kroos (in light of recent reports than he vetoed the deals) then so be it. We've seen what he's achieved with just 2 top draw players in at the World Cup.

There are some reports it'll be announced before two o'clock tomorrow. Something to do with the New York Stock Exchange. And no, I've no idea why we've to build our business around the opening and closing of the New York Stock Exchange.

I somewhat agree with you but we'll be a very different side by the time we play these teams again.

That's all well and good apart from the fact the clubs recent major announcements - Mata signing, Moyes going, LvG taking over, Giggs retiring - all happened while the stock market was closed. But it's ok, most of the Caf will keep believing this myth that nothing can happen while the stock market is closed.

Michael Carrick had it all to prove as well and he worked out alright. Juan Veron had a much bigger name and didn't do half as good here. Having a big name isn't everything.

He has all the attributes to play the box to box role for us and he has a manager that will know how to use him. The likes of Vidal were just a fantasy, while Fabregas and the like don't fit into van Gaals system. Herrera, on the other hand, is practically tailor made for it.

Too early to come to that conclusion but like somebody quoted me before in this thread, he was probably one of the better "achievable" options available at this moment. I was only questioning the statement made by a certain person in this thread, who said "this transfer is a signing of intent", which in my opinion it is not. Doesn't mean I don't think it's a good signing, 2 very different things.
