No white sheet. :(
Haha its gorgeous sundhine here in London and as usual its pissing it down in Manchester.

Herrera as good as Anderson?

feck.
They aren't at the similar level.

Top midfielders (though not world class): Carrick and Herrera
Average to shit midfielders: Fellaini and Cleverley
Shit and injured: Anderson

Fletcher at his top level would be on the first category, but after his illness it's difficult to judge him.
well i did say most are at a similar level, meaning Fleth, Cleverley, Ando and Fellaini.

In no way would i bracket Carrick and Herrera with those guys

So we have a lot of midfielders, most of which are of a similar level.

Carrick Herrera Cleverley Fletcher Anderson Fellaini

You would have to think Carrick and Herrera are in Van Gaals plans but if i was any of the other 4 i would be a tad concerened as i would suggest 2 will be off.
You're underestimating Herrera a bit.

Agree. Ando has to leave IMO, while if we can get some money for Fellaini feck him too. Fletcher is a very difficult case, cause he doesn't look good enough for us anymore but as his best he is a great player. I would keep Fellaini for an another year because he has potential to become useful under Van Gaal IMO.

Anyway, feck knows what Van Gaal thinks and that it all that matters.
On the question of loyalty to Fletcher - which you didnt raise so I dont know why your post made me think of it - I think we'd be doing him more of a favour sending him on to a club where he can be at the heart of things, rather than keeping him on the periphery here. At a mid table club in England or a big club in Scotland he could get a lot of football.

I literally can't wait to see him photographed with De Gea. I'll instantly have the image of him thinking to himself 'another one crossed off the list. Koke up next'.

I bet we'll hear stories of De Gea constantly messaging Herrera when is he joining like he did with Mata.

Nothing wrong with Dave seducing Spainards to Old Trafford.

This Bilbao fan is clearly unhappy. He's made a list of 'traitors' to Athletic:

Honestly I feel for him after Rooney and his two transfer requests in three years. It would've been a lot better for everyone, including the Athletic fans, if we had just signed him last summer and not made them go through this see-saw process.

Ah well he's ours now. :D

Nothing at all wrong with it. He seems to be good friends with most of the highly rated Spaniards too, he's just a really friendly lad by the looks of it.

Anderson is better than Cleverley and Fellaini.

I do have great respect for this club and their basque philosophy. I always thought when they sold for high fees, well they deserve it. So I can't see it any diffrent now that it is United to sign one from there.

Anderson is better than Cleverley and Fellaini.
At his best, certainly but his worst (which happens more often) is absolutely terrible. Cleverley and Fellaini are very shit too when they are out of form, but I think it happens rarely than with Anderson.

And if friendly doesn't work, we have Juan who can get "over friendly"

Every time I read the thread title on the main forum page I think it's about to say "Spanish Press..." conference. The sooner this gets done, the better.

We'll have no problems signing Spaniards now we've got De Gea, Mata and Herrera

forgive me for my lack of education but could someone please tell me what all this BASQUE business is and how it effects transfer fees?

Bilbao have a rather unique policy of singing only Basque players. It can result in difficult transfer windows and a reliance on their academy to produce the goods.

Bilbao only sign players from their own specific region of Spain. Therefore they have a very small talent pool from which to pick. Therefore the players they do have are worth more to them. Therefore they are inflexible when it comes to transfers, they set a price at which they are prepared to sell and they dont budge from it.

If they could sign anyone players would be easier to replace and therefore wouldnt be worth so much, basically.

Oh yes, what KM said.

Basque country is an area of northern Spain. Bilbao only allow players of Basque origin or 'nationality' on their books. Therefore, they don't have a wide pool of players to choose from when it comes to replacing their players and therefore demand top money.

IIRC, Real Sociedad had a similar ethos until recent years and they now allow foreign and non-Basque players.

Its amazing they can remain competitive with a policy like that to be honest. I guess it makes them work harder developing players.
Yep, if I remember correctly they're the only club in Spain with Real Madrid to have never been relegated too. Unreal.

What on earth has Anderson done to be considered better than Fellaini? (not that I rate him highly either.)

Played football for Manchester United better than Fellaini has. What else could it possibly be? Or are you one of these new age weirdos that want a statistical evaluation of their performances?

Feel in uncharted waters here - not sure what happens when one of these transfer threads has a successful resolution!!!
