Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

Let's not turn this into the Liverpool thread. One if those threads is bad enough.

If we are aigning Herrera, I'm confident that we'll be signing another midfielder too.

Who could that possibly be? Considering we are likely to add Strootman in January or the next summer window. De Jong? Would only cost 6M.

Wrong Herrera we should be looking at.
Well both would cost around the same amount. But I'd take A. Herrera more experienced had a good season with Bilbao while I heard Hector had a disappointing one with Porto.

Herrera had a year left on his contract, so you just hope this isn't his camp drumming up interest in him to try and get Bilbao to offer a new deal.

Excelled as a no. 10 as so many who are named to solve our CM Problem. Seemingly why still haven't made enough bad experiences by fielding players out of position (Veron, Annderson, Fellaini, Kagawa).

Still a good player and one who at least anle to play CM. He goods stats came by playing as no. 10 in 26 of 31 games he played.

He could improve our CM but .... "According to AS, the deal has gathered pace over the past few days - mostly because Herrera's release clause would have increased to €40m (£32m) on the 1st of July."

Saul Niguez, Blind, Allan (Udinese), L. Bender, Gonalons, etc.

I don't know really, but one of them could be decent for us apart from the obvious names.

Herrera and maybe Strootman in January? Would be a very good duo.

I think Strootman is just as likely in August when he's back to light training. No reason why he can't pass his medical then and target an October return.

Could it really be happening this time...

OK - well the "done deal" story emerged last night, more or less simultaneously from a bunch of journalists who cover Athletic. Someone in the club thinks it's happening at the release clause valuation without the formal release clause being used.

Are they right? Well last August Athletic thought we were going to return with another offer and we never did. So maybe we shouldn't believe it until they smuggle him into Carrington.

Personally, I think it's happening. The language of the reporters covering Athletic has been shifting during the week from words like "expecting" "waiting" "believe" into a deal having been made. Vamos a ver!

I didn't realize he was going to be back in training so soon, I guess it's a possibility then.

Can't say I've heard of Allan but I'd welcome any of the others.

Great news! All sounds good.

Shaw and Herrera would certainly be a nice (if very overpriced) start to our transfer window. At 18 and 24 they'd be long term fixtures in positions that are currently problem areas for the team. If we can get these deals wrapped up relatively soon then suddenly our summer takes on a much more positive hue...

Thing with these players is that it is hard to tell, who's good enough to be a regular for United. For example Saul Niguez is mostly a very talented player at this moment in time. Lars Bender had an underwhelming season by his standards, he might need a bigger challenge, but wants to stay on for now to improve. Gonalons, I haven't seen enough of to actually know if he'd be good enough and the same applies to Allan. I've read good things about them though.

This article makes Allan sound like exactly what we need, but with Ander possibly arriving, we might not need him as he sounds similar in his style of play.

Off to training soon, can't wait to see this thread when I get home tonight. The meltdown will be in full force.

Hope we don't sign him, not been that impressed whenever I've seen him play. He's an above average midfielder but for £30m and at 25 I'd expect a lot more especially when you consider Chelsea signed Fabregas for a similar fee.

If we get Herrera it's likely he'll play the box to box role so assuming we go for another midfielder this window they'll be more defensively orientated. I do think Lars Bender is good enough but he did have a underwhelming season as did a number of the Leverkusen players though.

From what i've seen of him in the last few years (which has been quite alot) - i think he's exactly what we need.

Good player, but if we buy him, we're gonna need at least one more CM to be solid in that area. And if we somehow complete that daunting task, there's still the matter of our wings. Aside from Adnan, who's fresh and green still, we have no good wingers and you know damn well LvG's gonna wanna use those.

If we're buying him just because he's a good player and we have other midfielders near-done, then this is excellent news. But I dearly hope he's not LvG's idea of fixing our midfield up. He's good, he's also at a decent age and promising, but it's gonna take a lot more than him.

I sill think we should spend huge, around ~£50m for a world class midfield and buy players similar to Herrera, as in young and aspiring, but unproven, in other positions. Just my thoughts, though.

Don't forget that apparently LvG ruled out going for Fabregas because he didn't think he was the right player for us.

If he decides that Herrera is, then am happy to trust his opinion.

Valencia has extended his deal for 3 years. Am not saying that this is the answer, but it might mean that this is not an area we are prioritising - especially if Nani is being given some time to prove himself.
