Ander Herrera is a Manchester United Player!

He had a poor start to last season which is granted all the shit that was going on. But he was brilliant in the second half of the season.

Think so. Still, he'd be stupid to turn us down. Realistically we're the biggest club he's going to get and the best suited to him too I think.

Didn't he say that he was disappointed when our approach turned out to be fake? I'm nearly sure he said something very positive anyway after that shambles.

He hasn't tweeted since June 20th. That obviously means he's taken the time to fly to England and agree this deal.

From what I've seen he seems quite a well-rounded midfielder with a solid defensive game. I'd probably prefer his Mexican namesake, but he's a midfielder. Christ, it's been so long since we've signed a decent one of those.

Just heard about this. All I can say is :

Marca saying he's already in England and he will earn £3m a year.

This is happening... No way all these newspapers would be this assertive about it if it wasnt

I really haven't seen enough of Herrera to make a judgement on whether or not he is a good fit for us.

I know someone has already asked, but what player(s) is he similar to?

That should help me get my muppet juices flowing...well unless you come out with names like Gareth Barry.

He's how Cleverley should have developed after his debut season.

Edit: He's like a better version of Jonathan de Guzman thinking about it, good through the centre of midfielder, pops up with goals, good passing range and can play deeper too. He's more mobile than the Dutchman but not as good at set pieces.

:nervous:

I think he said something along those lines alright. I definitely remember him saying it was an honour to have us interested in him and when he was asked if he might move here in the future he gave the classic "you never know" answer.

He is a Schweinsteiger-lite.

So he's a midfielder, quite aggressive with solid passing range, quick decisions, got Alonso sent off through his pace against Real Madrid few months ago... I'm not even gonna try and compare him to Scholes... He doesn't usually score screamers but he's attacking the box quite often, if not - produces goalscoring opportunities.

I'd say he's not really that comparable to anyone. But I could imagine Oscar playing quite like him if he played deeper.
Herrera has more athleticism and energy, but he isn't the best in front of goal.

Just realised you've been given a list of different people he's similar to. All of whom are completely different.

Thanks for the responses guys. Answers ranging from De Guzman to Schweinsteiger

Sounds like a tidy player anyway. A bit of a playmaker, whether it be in a deep or advanced position.

He is clearly not a goalscorer though and we are missing goals from our midfield so I hope we get someone else to help us out in that regard.

Juan Mata will continue to chip in with a good few next season IMO. He really found his magic touch at the end of last season, scoring some lovely goals.

This story is slightly odd, seems to be out of the blue. I wouldn't be surprised if we scouted him throughout the season and kept in touch with his agent, so assuming he wants to join then we could get the personal terms sorted out quickly and then we would only have to pay the buy-out clause, so it would make sense if the transfer is competed quickly. We'll find out tomorrow either way.

This. Give him the right support and I reckon he can get us 10-15 goals next season.

There are not many CMs who can do what Yaya Toure does and get double figures. It's up to Januzaj, Mata and the other wide players to play their part.

I've seen him compared to Xabi Alonso in terms of personality, if that helps. Think they meant the combination of organisational skills, leadership and a bit of cuntishness.

Gareth Barry is actually an accomplished midfielder, he's been a good player for years.

Herrera looks a lot like a more aggressive
Mccarthy to me with his playing style.

I know Barry is actually a pretty solid midfielder, it's just not exactly a name that is going to get my muppet juices flowing that's all.

I remember Strootman being called the 'Dutch Gareth Barry' last summer when we were linked to him and most people on here lost interest in him soon after that. Now most of us would love Strootman in the team, providing he recovers from his injury anyway.

Also in regards to goals from midfield, I agree that Mata could chip in with around 10 goals or so which would be a great return. Hopefully the likes of Januzaj/Kagawa/Nani can get a few too so we're not overly reliant on our strikers.
