Still think he can’t defend?Obviously I agree with that, just don't think that his stats tell the whole story about that. Imo, his positional sense is way off and he's also weak in defence (at corners and people dribbling past him as well).
It's a simple case of actually having options to pass forward to. Ander likes to move the ball quickly, and if a forward pass isn't available he'll play the simple ball. Team restrictions were being confused with his Individual ability. At loss of words - he was incredible today.
Last game that came close to this match, was his performance against Chelsea, where he was man-marking Hazard.
Didn't put a wrong foot in. Even in the last minutes, he was still trying to bomb forward and try to start something, hence the cramp.
He's definetely up there as one of the most transformed players under Ole. I used to get so irritated with him, because he always chose the easy way out and pass backwards or sideways, but You can clearly see that the Ole's ''move the ball forward'' tactic has worked wonders with him. He shows more confidence in taking players on and always trying to look for that pass forward.
Hope he can keep this up.

His game is costing him so much energy. At his current level he deserves a new contract at Utd of course, but I doubt he can hold this level of running around and pressing like a mad man for another 3-4 years.
Similar to Running backs in the NFL, your chasers and ball winners in midfield need to be at their physical prime to be the most effective and they need to be replaced when they are over the hill. Both Juventus and Bayern shipped Vidal out when they realized his playing style has taken his toll on his body and they had the chance to get him off the wage bill.
Real Madrid has replaced a 32 years old Alonso with Casemiro and that move has payed off big time. I am pretty sure Ngolo Kante will not be a world class player when he is 33/34/35.
There are only a select few midfielders with the skill set to be still great when their physical qualities are below par (Pirlo, Carrick etc.).
